Cat 4 - Roll call and early strategy
This week we have a jersey to defend and rumor has it that Rigby likes yellow, so it sounds like a lead out train is in order. In the past Kissena has killed it for the green and KOM but fallen short with the finishing train. While this may have to do with the speed at the finish, it is more likely due to burning too many matches early in the race.
I suggest three goals:
1. Defend the KOM jersey
2. Go for the win
3. Go for the green (tentative)
The above includes getting teammates into breaks early and often, but I have kept the green jersey as a tentative goal given that dedicating guys to a green jersey lead out means burning the matches of 4+ racers that may be better served leading out the finishing sprint. If we skip the green jersey lead outs we should still have the horsepower in the finish to lead Rigby out. Even better if we can get Harry, Bruce or Jim some grey jersey points.
I suggest we see how many racers we have registered before we commit to the green jersey. Note that racers who want to go for the green should feel free to make it known, not only is my strategy subject to critique, but our plans on the road are likely to change dramatically.
Roles:
2-3 riders covering breaks during first half of race
2-3 riders covering breaks second half of race
3-4 riders leading out for KOM
4-6 riders leading out for final sprint
Rather than assign racers to each role, I'd like to ask each of you to volunteer for one or more roles depending on your strengths and ambitions. Note that it makes sense to have more than one role, just don't bite off more than you can chew.
So, let everyone know if you are racing and which role(s) you would like to take on. Feel free to comment on the plan as it can be improved. I'll post more detailed strategy later in the week.
