9 of 25? just watch out for thor/sasquatch.
Agree with Stokes, Perlberg etc. Blocking — riding "tempo" on the front — is lame and will get you/team a bad name. Aggressive racing gets you respect and is more sporting. Think Sun Tzu, Art of War: the idea is to win with your resources and objective intact (one of which would be: still be liked by other teams). This is accomplished by, one, removing your competitor's hope for victory, two, using all of your advantages, three, exploiting your competitor's weaknesses, and four attacking along an unexpected line."

There's other ways to disrupt when you have teammates up the road:
- letting a gap open in front of you when the chase is going hard
- taking a flyer to disrupt the rhythm of the chase (do they chase you or keep rolling?)
- immediately countering (yes two up) when the break is brought back
- get on any bridging efforts (if the bridge fails the break will extend its lead)

McKay will destroy anyone in this field if you give him a half decent leadout (drop him off at 200m).

Or, channukah (sic) if that is you're preference. Why must you guys mske
everything so complex? So hard? So difficult? "Uhgghhh ill attack when

209 yards divide by pi....uggghhhh. put tonic in my gin...."

Next you'll want little slices of limes and fri#kung umbrellas n shit.

I think it's safe to day that no matter what, if you show up to race it it is clear what team you are racing for - Kissena.

If it's Battenkill weekend nobody will blame us for a thin field.
just dont use too much schwartz. then they will think we're doping or something.
wednesday 2 April 2014

Hi All,
been traveling and will be in the 4's at this weeks L&C Cup, for my 1st race since CX c2013.
no idea of my race fitness (2) nights a week computrain, jan-mar) suspect it is not high in comparison to the field, however, am scrappy and like to race!

I know a few of the players from other the Teams and there will be plenty of competition for Kissena.

Given that the L&C Series has both jerseys&Socks: Leader "Yellow," Sprint "Green," King of the Mountain, "Polka Dot," and Masters45+ "Grey;" I think we 4's should set some goals and race toward meeting them this weekend.

KCC are 10/32 entries today, Wednesday, given the confluence of other races this weekend and especially Battenkill, I think we can expect no more than an additional 10-20 entries by race day, which puts us at 10/45 entries =20% of the field, roughly double the % in a pro peleton.

Our #'s are an issue but as long as we KCC's play fair, then, earnest efforts at meeting personal and team goals should be acceptable to the field.

Per earlier dialogue (not all of which i've followed) &the passing Chris Yacks into the Cat 3 stratosphere (congratulations Chris!) it seems goals could be something like this:

Yellow (win/place) - Rigby(@Battenkill), Grehan, Nelson, Tillman, Konrad, or Owens
Green (2 sprints) - Yang(@Battenkill), Tillman, Nelson, Konrad or DaSilva
Polka Dot (2 hill sprints) - Grehan, Owens, Reniers, Konrad, or Nelson
Grey (win/place) - van-schalkwyk, or bolick.

So, we need to develop plans:
A) for this weekends goals &,
B) strategy for post Battenkill goals ie. Rigby in yellow! gobble-up points away from contenders. (a break-away win would be best!)

L&C Week 1of 7
Yellow - Break efforts for Nelson and Tillman - Sprint Finish for Da Silva and Owens.
Green - Dan Reiners laydown a plan for the Green Jersey sprints w/Konrad and DaSilva(danR won it year before last).
Polka Dot - U call it for the Polka Dots: love to see Grehan take home a funny jersey; good to have a pair taking points.
Grey - i want to keep an eye on breaks and be in the mix at the finish top 5 would be great  for me Bruce let me know your thoughts.

just food for thought...

Can we register day of?  I am having an epic body fail this week and not sure if i can make it...game day decision.
Welcome back Harry. Two things, Andy DA silva is now a 3, and two, Konrad is now also a 3. You're now up to date. See you Saturday.
While Harry’s plan is a good one on paper, we don’t have the depth to address all the goals he outlines.

I feel strongly that we should attack and counterattack the hell out of the second half of this race. This may be our best chance at a win in an L&C race in a long time. This does not mean that riders can’t try to get polka dot or green jersey points, but we are almost certainly not as fit as in July and have fewer matches to burn on the leadouts in this week’s race.

It will be critical that riders stay near the front and watch me, Owens, and Nelson to take our cues as to when to attack, counter or disrupt a chase. We will be looking for teammates, so stay nearby and let your presence and availability be known. If you are feeling good and want to attack, go for a jersey, or lead out Aaron for the polka dot, etc. - let us know. We will be more successful if we can coordinate efforts. Of course if someone strong jumps and you go with him, do it! You don’t need to ask for permission. It should go without saying, but we just don’t want to attack if we have teammates up the road.

If the breaks don’t succeed then everyone should move up between the uphill and downhill portion and plan on organizing on the right side of the pack near the temple. We will ramp up the speed for a lead out to the finish. Not only will this be safer but it will improve our chances of a strong finish. Whomever is feeling good at that point should let it be known. Riders who feel they don’t have the legs or are nervous about the finish should take the early pulls and give it everything they’ve got. Keep the pace even - but leave everything on the road. Listen to me and the other leaders - we don’t want to start too early - I bet many of us have a good punch, but given the brutal winter - few people will have much endurance.

Let's meet in from the bathrooms for preface pow-wow to finalize plans. Most important: communicate during the race. Finally, let's have a post-race debrief at the coffee shop afterwards.

Of course, the above are just my suggestions. If you like it speak up. If you have different ideas, speak up. Majority rules Kissena. Whatever we do - let's keep it coordinated and focused.
Phillip,
opps&thx, should be fun&interesting!

Love Patrick's response!
....lets do tag a couple folks for goals ie. Aaron for Dots if he is in &interested; second half attacks sound good as well...however, given that i am not familiar with the Groups' fitness/strengths beyond vague outline posted above.

Please Please do speak-up if you have a goal. 1st race is most likely to secure a jersey...the Win would be brilliant! i will certainly throw it down for finish lead-out.

I feel like I've been reading (and writing) grand plans for the fours for many years.

I'm going to try for the break, but if that doesn't work I'll sprint for the green, unless I'm in position for the dots, but in any case will have be there for the sprint.

Choose wisely. Listen to Patrick and talk to one another during the race.
Aaron is the best cat4 sweeper in the biz. Got more than one"I was try to get on your wheel but your sweeper wouldn't budge no matter what I did".

Get points early.
Head over the GWB after the race?  Looks nice out and I need the miles.

Best picture illustrating point this week (at least). Also, Aaron, best sweeper...who knew?! Keep up the good communication y'all!
I concur with the sweeper sentiment.  It is really important. especially after you get the jersey as all eyes will be on the jersey.  The IV's have the numbers to do things other teams can't.  Pick 2 guys to go for the green & dots.  Whoever has the best 1k speed should jump way early.  In the sprint, this means a teammate goes before the parking lot....far enough from the line that people won't get your wheel...close enough to the line that you can likely hold off the sprint.  In the dots, a teammate should jump on the slight uphill grade before the start finish...far enough from the hill that no one should follow...close enough to the hill...well you get it.
The other riders going for green & dots need to find a rider to sit right in their slip stream...the sweeper needs to stay on the wheel as long as they can...there is a bit of an art to this position.  If you see the line approaching and your leader is pulling hard you can start to let the gap open...you don't want anyone to get a free ride to the line and you don't want to back off too far from the line as someone could come over you and get your leaders slip stream.  Most teams will not have the intelligence or #'s to deal with an early attack and a sprinter with a sweeper.  It is simply too much to overcome.  Designate your rolls....after this weekend, study the effort you needed and practice that during the week.  I've got a closet full of those jerseys...I would not have won (or stolen...sorry Malcs) any of them without my teammates leading out and sweeping.  Here is some truth...

Is that Tyler Farrar? Because he's good doing these type of tricks.

It sure looked like Stybar swept Cav's wheel of Sagan at San Remo.  No one talked about it after because Sagan finished 10th.

At :23 Sagan is on Cav's wheel, by :25, Stybar has muscled him off it and towards the barriers.
I am in for racing, but my level of fitness is somewhere between Jabba the Hut and a tree sloth.

I am happy to work for some leadout/worker bee activity here. I will suck for the most part but I am willing to dip my toe into racing.
^which toe? Three to choose from...

done - I'll marshal. First time riding outside in 2014 (Citibike excluded) shouldn't be in a race.
I may have to skip the race tomorrow. I had a mishap on the bike last night and I have to see how i feel in the morning.
Phil, you ok?
Relatively, yes. Hit by a car. No broken bones, or cuts etc. Just bruising on the right hip and leg areas. I was lucky.
