Wes and Brendan #tacticsfail guy is on Wyld Stalyns - a bunch of former Siggis guys who paid Ritte for a bunch of Bosberg frames and called it sponsorship and is now making a lame attempt to assume their identity - an attempt that is failing miserably because it's poorly executed and, obviously, not original. https://www.facebook.com/wyldstallynsracing I took the liberty of pointing out that Kissena won the race.
Yeah, their schtick is about 6 years too late.
Video is up!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC9m6lVLIsk

Here are some incomplete annotations that will have to do for the time being:

1:50 - I greet another rider who has my bike!
2:00 - Having just arrived by car, I realize I need a warmup and proceed to semi-attack. A rockstar rider pulls out

into me.
3:00 - Tarmac rider pulls ahead of me.  Guy has some spunk and is a major feature at the front throughout the race.

No idea how he finished but given the amount of wind he ate, I respect whatever finish he managed.
3:15 - A brief moment of respect at the temple of "go through minor potholes rather than swerving around."
5:15 - A downhill attack by Wafels.  Never a good idea.  I continue to waffle and semi-pull.
6:10 - Big attack answered very quickly by Wes.  Green jersey goes with it but I figure it's just too early.  CRCA rider bridges.  Patrick and I say good morning to one another.
8:05 - Hi Jim! Hi Vlad!
8:43 - "Watch the blocking" says I.
8:55 - Vlad gets on the front up the hill.  Respect.
9:25 - Tarmac rider returns!

41:04 LAP - 4 to go

49:30 LAP - 3 to go

55:45 - I yell at a Rockstar rider for snot rocketing me.

57:45 LAP - 2 to go

1:05:44 BELL LAP

1:07:00 - the guy in front of me briefly climbs like ryan
1:08 - I always take the outside line after the top of the hill because I find that the field shifts right and you

can move up for free as the people on the left shift over
1:08:40 - Big attack by someone.  I'm worried.
1:09 - My continued concern is reflected in my effort to get that group back.  I don't want to use too much energy, so I don't go up to the guy in front of me.  SOmeone else does it for me at 1:09:55.  I know Prospect Park and, channeling Michael Perlberg/JP, I know that downhill attacks here do not stick.  It's just too easy to hit 40.
1:11 - either we bring them back or they slow down, but I'm back in the bunch without much work to show for it.  Success.
1:11:27 - two groups merge and yell.  exactly how last week's crash happened.  There is also uncharacteristic slowing at this point.
1:11:45 - following Vlad's tip and my own experience at Orchard Beach, I try to get on the wheel of the South Shore Cycling (grey jersey, team colors CAAD10) rider who I suspect is quite strong.
1:12:18 - I am convinced I will not even get near the podium but I try to get outside so I can move up.
1:12:30 - Yelling.  Always the yelling in the Cat 4's.  So much yelling.  Stop yelling!
1:12:50 - I assure someone that just bumped into me that "we're all right" having bumped and not fallen.
1:12:57 - Wes is visible in a nice forward position on the far side.  For whatever reason, I've lost him.  Sorry!

THE SPRINT occurred in several stages.  I am not an expert on bike races, but if I were to dissect it:
(1) The Initial Assessment - 1:12:52 - Where am I and what is going on.
(2) Let Someone Else Make the First, Expensive, Move - 1:12:53 - Someone yells "go," fulfilling the dual purpose of
channeling Degenkolb in the recent Amgen Tour and putting me on notice that a bunch of people will soon accelerate.
(3) Are They Out Of The Saddle? - 1:12:55 - in my limited experience, people who are out of the saddle are giving it their all or at least won't do much acceleration from there.
(4) Stay In the Saddle As Long As Possible - Follow the Stage (3) people as long as you can without getting out of the saddle.  When you sense they are fading, GO!
(5) Should I Change lanes? - 1:12:59 - If the wheel you are on starts to fade, you need to get away from it.  You will lose the sprint.  Mindful of others' wellbeing, maneuver away from the slow wheel.  At 1:13:02 someone yells...I think our wheels may have touched.  Whatever dude, that's bike racing.  If you wanted that gap you should have elbowed me for it.  I think I get out of the saddle at around 1:13:04.
(6) Should I Change Lanes Pt. II - 1:13:07 - the sprint is moving right but it's not getting faster, so I move left
into the gap that the RBNY rider creates as he moves right.
(7) Slipstream - 1:13:11 - if Cavendish can do it, I can try!  Rather than go away from the rider up the road (who is obviously dying) I try to move close to him in order to get some favorable wind treatment.  No idea if it
matters, but I can't disagree with the result.

their repeated hashtag is #StyleDoping. I guess it is the way that Ricco was doping: poorly, obviously and then later blaming his girlfriend for the fridge full of EPO

Those kits are an eyesore, and it is the visual equivalent of a bad bag of blood.

Oh and you kids get off my lawn.

Serious question:

What is our best finish in a P123 field sprint this year?

FWIW, in Central Park, I got 9th.  And I think only Vlad was along with me.  And I had been aggressive all race.
I was with you when you got 8th, no?

Oh. This http://youtu.be/aeCRnFq_9Lo
Yeah, that. I wonder if I'll ever be that comfortable on the bike... even for just like a minute.

maybe it was 7th. #oldmanhaze

Now I'm remembering.  I think you're right.  Thanks again.  for both then and now.

Okay, here it is. About half of the 1/2/3 race from April 19 as shot from my handlebars (the GoPro mysteriously quit on me).

I spent a lot of time annotating it, with the idea that there might be some helpful lessons on how to handle oneself in a race where you are seriously out-gunned power/fitness wise. Hopefully, some of you will get something out of watching at least parts of the 56 minutes of action.  There's some pretty good stuff, even just in the first lap, so I encourage you to sit through the first 8 minutes or so at least.

Of course, I fell asleep re-watching it checking the captions, so you know...I get it if you don't want to click play. This video can only be accessed by following the link below. It's not meant to be a public item.

Marc this is GREAT.   Thank you so much for taking the time to do this.
I learned today that the previously scheduled L&C cup race that was supposed to conflict with the Dave Jordan Classic this Saturday is no longer being held. I am repeating the information here for anyone else that was caught unaware. In other news, Patrick needs to look at the forum more often.
While you're here, when Geraldo opened the vault there wasn't anything inside...
Not true.  Empty Coca-Cola bottles and dust bunnies.
Speaking of this upcoming race, we need some OLD MAN HORSEPOWER.

Both John Lohner (sp?) and Paul Carbonara will be in the 50+ group that has a lead, and Erin K and Danny I will be in the 40+ chase group - doing nothing whatsoever I presume, until/if there is a catch.
I'll be there in the 40+   I have been "preparing" to race.  This stuff is better than a rest day blood bag.

I'm there in the 40+

I don't see any of the others you mention Jules as being registered.

Carbo was pretty stoked about it today.  They may be a late reg swarm...
I believe I'm in for this.
I'm out of town.
David, the 50+ are going to miss you.....

Back is still not tip top but I'll be out to cheer/marshall/reg/whatnot.

I guess it's I against the entire Deno Wheel team.
Crush them Thierry!
I will try Philip before they crush me!!
I will try Philip before they crush me!!
Head on over to the racing tactics and tips thread for my thoughts on Thierry vs the world!
I'm out....lacrosse, track and archery on Saturday
Ugh

Thanks for registering for tomorrow's race.  Please read this very important info about the race:

1. While we race rain or shine, if the course is flooded at the narrow section at the bottom of the downhill, the race will be cancelled.  I won't know the condition of the course until I arrive at approximately 3:30am.  If the course is deemed not safe I will send an email to this list to inform everybody.  The area must be 100% clear.  If the joggers lane is flooded but our lane is clear the race will still be cancelled.  If the joggers lane is flooded all joggers would have to enter our lane to go around the water which, obviously, would be very dangerous.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAIL BEFORE COMING TO THE RACE!

2.  Do not ride the wrong way (against traffic) before, during, or after the race.  This is not only our rule but a general traffic rule.  The Parks Dept has informed me the Police will be issuing tickets this year.

3. Do not ride on any pedestrian paths.

4. Please be courteous to other Park users.

5. Lastly, be safe! These are local, friendly competition events.

I will see you all in the morning!

hey y'all - i'm in to marshall (via the google doc) for an L&C Cup Race tomorrow morning, but when i surfed over to Charlie's website it doesn't indicate that there is a race tomorrow.  what gives? is this happening, or is the google doc incorrect?

@dstearns - tomorrow's race is technically a Masters handicap race - a 40+ field, 50+ field which are racing against one another plus the Cat 5 field. https://www.bikereg.com/masters-day
Thanks Craig - I messaged Charlie off-board to see if he still needs the help.
