I should be out for this. Try and make 6pm gap, but don't wait.
Holy fuck it's hot. I just got back from a 70 miler (smart to leave at noon when it's gonna be 90, eh?) and went through 7 bottles. The headwind as I was coming back south, uh, sucked too.

Load up! Good luck, dudes.
Best time to race at Floyd
I'll take "No fucking way" for 500 please Alex.
OUCH OUCH OUCH. Lots of wind, Lots of wind. Hard to move up and the long section between turn 1 and 2 was a drag race in the pain cave.

Don't do morning workouts until you want to puke, then jump into a FBF race in the evening.
My floyd was much nicer, though it hurt just as much

5" nail vs Kenda Criterium K-Belt.

Hard race, Adam finished! Race becoming more and more like the Grand National; cones, hedges, water hazards, porta-loo on the apex, wheelbarrows, concrete blocks, 5 inch nails!
Yeah, it was just another day at Floyd but I think we're just getting reacclimated to running the gauntlet. Dan was a good cap'n as usual - aside from just being a smart racer, he also speaks in a calm, near-normal voice when giving out instructions and you always know what he wants you to do.

...although I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for William's "ARGLEBARGLE! GUH NAH GUH (tito) GUH"

Oh, and I flatted with 4 to go. Wooaam wooaaam
[shakes fist, yells in the tongue of his people]

Add giant snakes to that list. I saw a huge black snake side-wind it's way across the bike path on my way back from this past Saturday's race. Seriously... 4-5ft freaky looking thing. Next time you need to take a leak, be careful.

Pro/1/2/3 race tonight was fast and painful, but you already knew that. Finishing with the group never felt so good. FBF is a great place to learn how to hide from the wind. I'm checking out the start/finish flags. I'm checking out the wind sock at the third corner. I'm watching the field and seeing where the guys I know are good are positioning themselves. It's starting to make some sense. Now I know why the people diving into that third turn were battling for that inside line (and didn't mind riding over tufts and through sand to get/keep it). All of this doesn't apply when they're all going balls out and you're trying to hang on for dear life, but when they sit up and stack 20 wide at the end of the dig... that's quite a site... then back at it again... and again. and like a zillion more times. I'm glad it's over

Wind is cool.
Was it a snake or was it...
I went to floyd after a hard weekend of drinking and flimsy legs...bad idea. I had ridden floyd before but underestimated the wind big time. it is a hardman's race and a great way to train and get stronger though.I gave way with 4 to go after having dug really deep attempting to bridge up to riders up the road. a wonderwheel guy on deep profiled wheels was led out by a team mate, I jumped after him. On retrospect, I was late in responding, I should've gotten in his draft and could have probably done so even with his little lead out had i jumped slightly sooner. The rest of the field caught up and the break was shut down, I guess we initiated that at least. Afterwards, I saw the green flag go up, I thought we were one to go cause i didn't hear charlie on the mic either. I was pooped and was like, well screw it, it's not like i got the legs to sprint anyway, so I rolled back to the starting line and met back up w/ tito and Johnny (who flatted on the first lap), soon to be joined by John Malcomson who flatted due to a 5inch nail rotating around his tire like a broken spoke hah! Little did I know, there were 4 more laps but I had nothing left to give anyway.
My first Tuesday night at Floyd this season....rain has really been killing this race on a weekly basis, so it was nice to finally get a classic Tuesday summer night at Floyd.

Drove in with Adam.

Compared to other Floyd races I've done, the wind really wasn't THAT bad. The worst part was a pretty strong gust from 10 o'clock on the last stretch. All you had to do there was take the inside line all the way down in the drops and you didn't have to do any work.

Lieutenant Dan kept me in check. The green socks commanded obedience.

Lost Tito and John to flats.

I almost crashed out of the race when someone who had flatted was exiting the peloton like a total idiot.

No real attacks; there was a 5-man break at the end that got caught 300 m before the finish.

Green & Yellow riders made top 10 placings in both greens and the final.

I spent some time at the front and back but never intended to attack. On the last stretch I made sure to get some solid wind protection (by taking the inside line) as it really was bad there. I did that for the first 9 laps. For the last lap, I was out in the wind on the outside line so that I could move into a favorable sprint position at will. Of course, the inside line was safer from the wind, but I noticed over the course of the race that it was a slow line with nowhere to go. I therefore made sure to take the outside line, going for the sprint straight into the wind without a leadout. Started probably 10th wheel and overtook two guys to take 8th.

I would do it the same way next time, just with the added tactic of making sure I'm sucking a good wheel with 200 m to go. Someone like Lance or Burrowes or John.
Coming out tomorrow for the 3/4, goal: break with Lance. Stragglers welcomed.
Nice work Kaiser!
I'm tempted to show up down there tonight. Haven't been out to FBF yet this year.

Legs likely to feel like dead fish with two days off the bike since Killington this weekend, but what the hell, right?

What time ya'll leave from the GAP?
5:50
Dead fish indeed. I like the way you think Ryan. Hmmmm....
Also, there's racing at the Rockleigh crit course tonight. William and I are going to be there...and probably Mattie.
Just realized I have an appointment in midtown today that will detonate any plans for racing. Guys, save a pinch flat for me, wouldja?
From the NYVelocity FBF 5/29/2012 comments:

Kissena Rider 1 "Do we have a rider up the road?"
Kissena Rider 2 "Yes"
Kissena Rider 1 "Awsome!"[sic]
Kissena Rider 3 comes to the front and helps with the chases

As Kissena Rider 1 in the chat, I know what actually happened. The wording is totally correct, I asked the question of John "Diesel Kielbasa" Malcolmson (aka Kissena Rider 2). Kissena Rider 3 was Aly coming up to disrupt the chase. What I love about this, is they think we're chasing our own guys down when we go up to block. Let them think we chase our own down. It makes our blocking that much more effective if people think it isn't blocking. I thought about jumping into the NYVelocity chat and disabusing folks of the impression we chase our own down, but why?
That. Is vintage.
Apparently a "Brent Tubie" responded with: "Ever think they were blocking, and not chasing, numb nuts?"

The jig may be up.
There was no Kissena rider up the road...John thought there might have been one and then was like ummm actually i dont think so...Go get it!
True, we didn't have anyone up the road for sure.
Nice little 1234...showed me I train like a bitch
que?
I'll write a report later, didn't have time tonight
Yeah, first time riding in the combined field.

It was me, Woj, Christian, and Vlad.

Not a stellar performance tonight. For my part, I was a little intimidated by the pro123 race. After a few laps that went away and I got fairly comfortable. Told myself to be aggressive. Followed wheels, ended up in a short lived move with Savory and a Rapha guy.

Little over halfway through the peloton split. I could see it happening but I didn't bust my ass to make sure I was on the right side of it, for whatever reason. I was pissed at myself after the race; should've been there and made sure my teammates were too. I know better.

After the split the guys who were left were awful. No organization, just guys flying off the front solo or in pairs and then exploding. I took some big pulls and asked Vlad to do the same, which he did.

Anyway, lame report. Four strong Kissenas in the race and none of made the split

(hanging my head in shame and eating chocolate)

By the numbers

Peak 5s (773 watts)
Peak 10s (712 watts)
Peak 20s (547 watts)
Peak 30s (531 watts)
Peak 1min (469 watts)
Peak 2min (367 watts)
Peak 5min (312 watts)
Peak 10min (285 watts)
Peak 20min (268 watts)
Peak 30min (261 watts)
Peak 60min (238 watts)
For the first time racing I was truly disappointing with a race as a whole.

It wasn't a 123 race nor was it a 3/4 race, it was some dumb bullshit in between. Guys would let gaps open up like crazy, no one did anything, blah blah blah

/rant.

The fact that my fitness is lacking on a level I never expected it to was pretty suckish as well.

Next time they decide to combine the fields I'm getting out and asking for a refund, I think our fields were of descent size to be ran separately.

////rant.
