Floyd Bennett Field

Therewere probably 5-7 people involved. I braked but had no where to go. Some dude has a potential broken wrist. Him and Rick were taken by ambulance to Kings County. The guy with the wrist issue had the fork of his carbon bike pulled out of the head tube. The head tube split open. Yikes.

It was windy on two sides so you know to you know people would be sketchy. Plus cones.

Ugh...so many crashes. Keeping my fingers crossed Rick and others are okay.
Damn, sorry to hear. If you find any more info on Rick let us know.
It's a bummer when you wake up and read this. Heal up quick buddy.
Im in the ICU at Kings County for observation.  I've got 7 cracked ribs. , collar bone broken in two places, cracked vertebrae and a partially collapsed Lin.g. I hurt but don't need surgery
but things could be worse. At least I'm not the guy in tge ER last night w a coke  bottle shoved  deep up his ass
Goddamn that sucks. Heal up, dude.
(These are NOT the "results, bro" I was looking for!)

Really sorry to hear this. Holler if you need anything. I think the team has a decent stash of broken rip/collarbone recovery gear. And we *do* have a beer sponsor now...

Hope you feel better soonest.
Rick, cracked ribs suck, but should eventually be fine. Take really good and patience, you'll be back riding and racing before you know it. All the best!
Rick - that really sucks. Glad your sense of humor is intact. You'll get a lot of mileage telling people the coke bottle story.

You'll be off the bike for a while but they will rebuild you. A buddy of mine took photos of the shoulder x-ray with his phone after his surgery and used it as his Facebook photo for a while.

Hope your recovery is a (relatively) easy one.
Damn Rick, that sucks. Wishing you quick recovery.
The KCC flag will fly at Floyd again tonight. Vlad and I will be out for sweet vengeance, served orange.

5:45 p.m. GAP meetup. Be there, because racing with teammates is rad.
Floyd did this to my brand new conti gp4000s II. Flatted with 4 to go.

It was me Niall, Jeff, and Chaim in the 3/4 and Vlad in the 1/2/3. Had a little bit of fun bridging to a group off the front after one of the sprints, with Chaim in tow. Just before we got there, the two Rockstar guys bolt from the group. Chaim chases with me in tow this time. Just before we caught them, one of them attacks. Chaim attempts to follow, but i ran out of steam. A train goes up the left side to track him down, and Jeff's on it. A good moment for Kissena as a team.
And a big thanks to Vlad for the extra tube and Niall for sticking around. Good to have teammates and friends.
This was my first race this year when we really gelled as a team in the 4s. It was super cool and unexpected.

Phillip, who I dare say was going SLOW a month ago, raced really well today in tough conditions (and I'm not just talking about the tarmac). As always at FBF there were some wind dynamics and surprisingly the 3s and 4s at the front often had the savvy to force everyone to race in the gutter. Nonetheless, he was around the front during key moments to counter teammates' moves and sit around in the first wheels while we had guys up the road.

Chaim and Niall were super aggressive and strong at the front all night long. Both got involved in moves and did a great job of covering stuff while we had others in breaks.

I was using this race as my final tune-up for this weekend's crits, so tested out the legs on numerous occasions. I'm pretty sure I made four breaks, two of which looked pretty good. Alas, neither panned out.

I think the next level of teamwork in the 4s is to organize and set someone up for a sprint when that outcome becomes inevitable, which it did tonight. I would not take part in a Cat. 4 leadout train (been there done that), but I could get involved with dropping a designated sprinter off in a good place before the gallop.

Man, I was totally going to click "awesome" before I read this kicker. Tim and Scott and Amber would be bumming to hear this. Of course, if you will be "dropping a designated sprinter off in a good place before the gallop, I'm cool with whatever you call that.

PS Any of you Cat 4s going to join Jeff for some Rariton and Bound Brook racing action this weekend?
Seriously, I would love to have some support at Raritan :)
80 degrees and windy.  I'm going to get some summer race training in tonight at 7.  See you out there.
I'm racing FBF tonight. Will be at GAP at 5:45 p.m.
The typical Floyd shenanigans, with warm weather that cooled as we got closer to the sea, and wind that put us into easy gears one way and the hardest gear the other as it pushed on our backs and lifted our spirits, only to dash them again.  Though before the race, we could only anticipate the pain and suffering in our future.

Small fields racing, with Vlad in the 123s, while the 4s saw Jeff, Chaim, and me in my new Orange lid.  At least 2 racers asked before lining up if something was different about me.  Did I shave my beard, did I part my hair on the other side?  Used to my regular equipment, they didn't recognize me with the new POC.  They now trembled at the sight.

I had printed my release form that afternoon and check-in was swift and $15 painless.  They called 10 laps on the line, I had thought it was a usual 9, but racing is fluid and I went with it.  We started with me on the front, leading the small group and I relished the moment, noting to myself I would make sure to try and not be there at any other time in the race.
We did have a spirited first couple of laps as we tested our legs with the wind in front and behind.  The field grew even smaller.  I tried to stay near the front as much as possible, and chose on the windward stretch to stay on the left, and be in the wind, instead of on the right, where I noticed riders were still in the wind but getting squeezed into the gutter where there is little to no room to maneuver.  I figured for a training race, this was fine.

After a few laps, the group slowed way down along this stretch, prompting riders to jump off the front and see if they could get a gap.  Others would go with them, or bridge, and then the group would go, catching up eventually.
At one significant juncture after the start/finish, Jeff took a heroic leap off front.  I watched as no one else went with him and so slowly made my way up to the front of the group and began my soft pedal.  Another racer jumped and bridged and it was literally a minute before riders began passing me with their dirty looks.

While I do find blocking a somewhat distasteful business (which is why I enjoy it), it does, admittedly, give me a chance to both ride on the front, and ride slowly for recovery, though much to the chagrin of every single rider except those two up front.  So be it.  I have a teammate in the race, you don't.  Deal with it.

With a small field, gaps would open.  I sometimes get concerned at Floyd with a quarter mile of space to my left but still getting squeezed into brush and tree branches.  The gaps, however, meant I was often alone, between two groups, or many of us strung out, catching up.

And then, on the 6th lap, zooming around the corner toward the old start/finish, riders began passing me, one, another, many.  I looked down at my legs - they hadn't complained, were enjoying the work, but I wondered if they were keeping secrets from me.  They said they were fine, looked back and nodded.  I looked further down, past them.

Oh you gods, you nameless hapless gods, you, Yahweh, attempting to teach me the nature of sacrifice, and Poseidon, blowing your salt spray off your ocean top.  You are cruel, you play with me in your boredom.
And I, like you, am reminded of Book 23 of the Iliad, during the funeral for Patroklos when a temporary truce is called to the war and games are held.  In the running race, Odysseus prays for fortune, and wily Athena answers, causing Ajax to slip in some well-placed Cow Dung.

Another flat.  Brand new tire.  I had slipped due to someone else's prayers.
I remember, however, that the funeral race was held during war.  The race was not the war itself.  This Floyd race is a game and it takes my mind off other things happening in the rest of the world.  I rode back to the start with all my weight on the front tire and heavy in my chest, changed my flat and laughed off my misfortunes.
I watched Vlad pass, mixing it up with other riders, and then Jeff and Chaim staying with the group.

I texted my significant that I was done, this wasn't fun, I paid $1 per each mile and wouldn't do it again.
And she stated that I loved it, and would be back, and texted the image of a bicycle, and a beer.
The gods jest with me.  Others know what I'm thinking before I do.  I have more to learn.
I'll be back.
Probably.
Seriously the promoter should pay you to write these.

Bruce, may I present the antidote to your Schwalbe illness...

I rolled off the front during a lazy start and initiated the break. A group of 4 solidified on the first lap and that's all there was to it.

After taking a pull on the backside during the last lap, I got jumped. The chain choked on a bad shift as I tried to jump in a lighter gear and that was it for me. I couldn't close and watched the others play cat & mouse as I rolled in 4th.

I'll take it. This is the best P123 result I've gotten and the best place to get it at IMO, especially after this past Tuesday's gale fest.

It wasn't that windy today. We averaged 27mph.

[edit] Whoops, thought this was the Thurs FBF thread. Also, who cares because 4th place.
^Fuck yes. Awesome stuff, Vlad.
Right on Vlad. Nicely done.
FUCKING EH!
H U G E ! ! ! A long time coming Vlad, congrats.
Who were your fellow breakaway artists?
Jesus Martinez, Jose Cruz, and some guy from PA that won the Wilmington GP 2/3 race.
Tonite, June 2nd is CANCELLED.
