The Annual Super Bowl Century

This ride is epic, especially for this time of year. I made it from my apartment, did the loop and hopped on the A at 17x st because I was too cross-eyed. 108 miles of fun/pain/snow/ and stories.

Unfortunately as of now I'll be skiing in Utah that weekend (okay maybe not so unfortunate).

Advice
-Be mentally prepared to suffer
-Take all of JP's advice
-Either attend another's superbowl party or plan to do no prep for your own as all you will want to do is sit on the couch for hours eating whatever you can get your hands on
-If you do attend a party get there early to reserve a primo couch seat as you won't want to be standing or even moving for that matter

as a side note - even if you can't make the whole ride, you should show anyways as there are plenty of turnback points - piermont, orchards, 9w, etc.

If all the snow melts at Alta or its a total bust weekend I'll cancel my flight and join anyone brave/ intelligent enough to know they can't pass this up
The super bowl ride is stupid fun. Sean’s advice is good. Definitely worth doing

That seems about right.

CX World championships is maybe the only legitimate excuse not go on the Super Bowl ride... okay, maybe there are a few other legitimate excuses

And only if you are actually in Holland.
who is up for this next Sunday?  i am trying to work through a scheduling conflict, it is looking like a negative for me at this point.  obviously without JP no one would even know where to go...
and for those on the fence, i'll +1 what has been said about the epicness.  the route is amazing.  if you've not done it before you should.  the sweeping vistas as you descend bear mtn and look out over miles of icy hills and semi-frozen rivers, it's like a game of thrones set.  i always want to stop and take a picture but i'm not nearly cool enough.  you should really do it (the picture and the ride).  there are enough places to stop if your train takes a turn towards bonktown.  you'll make it!  although we all get a little weird by the end...
Unfortunately I am out. My eldest son is playing first horn in a concert of the Long Island Youth Orchestra Sunday at 1pm. I'm happy for him and wouldn't miss it for the world, but wish they had picked a different weekend. I might try to ride up to Piermont if time permits.
I'm in.  Hoping the weather cooperates.

Keith, OTOH, has to work.  He'll be riding Saturday 9:10am GWB for those who want to go long.  He's not sure he's going all the way, but promises he'll be riding long.
Looks like 2pm showers Sunday, I'll come for part of it. Anyone else turning back?
i'll turn back nice and early with you John

It's only 40% at 2.  70% at 3.  I think we can do it in six hours.

just sayin'.
I'm thinking of joining and turning back early. Where do folks leave from in Brooklyn?
John - I won't be there tomorrow but typically 8:00am at the Brooklyn entrance to the bridge, corner of Tillary and Adams. Roll 8:05.
i'll in for a standard long ride tomorrow, as i gotta get back for afternoon work, so i'll do the usual 8am @BB and 9@GW, if that's what others are doing
Running 5 min late to GWB, wait up!
Met up with Malcolmson and Brian at the bridge.  Olsson joined us a few minutes late with Marc Bertucco on his tail.

We had a nice ride to Sparkill, where Malcolmson and Miele turned for coffee.  The rest of us rode.

The weather was cooperative.  Initially.  We climbed to the orchard, then over to Gate Hill.  But rather than head up for Harriman, we headed down to Stony Point.  Reading the forecast suggested that getting home by 2pm was probably our best bet--this way we'd avoid a cold rain.

On the way back, we took the trail along the Hudson from Haverstraw to Nyack. Once we got to Nyack, it started to snow.  My feeling had been that if we don't get rain until around Closter Dock Road, we'd be sitting pretty.

Since it was just snow, once through Nyack, we took the rail trail back to Sparkill, and then climbed up onto 9W.

At Closter, the snow transitioned to a "wintry mix," then rain.  Not hard though.

Sure enough, back at the bridge at 2.

I saw that if I went straight home, I'd be just shy of 80 miles, so I rode Riverside to 110.  On 110, I could tell I'd make the 80, but I'd be about 3' short of climbing 5,000' for the day.  So I went to Central Park and did 110berg.

by then, the rain was pretty light.  I nearly went for a few laps in CP to get the 100, but...The fun of finishing it out that way just wasn't there.  Alas.

Here's the ride file.  Bummed we missed the Polar Bear Plunge in Haverstraw.

Good times.
thinking about this.

It doesn't always happen, but when it does, it's awesome.

time to get training.
This is usually a great ride
I'm still itching to ride stupid miles on Super Bowl Sunday. The current forecast suggests highs in the low 30s. Do we have a group of ridiculous riders with too much time on their hands? Who is with me?
I’m in
In for an epic ride
I usually waste my time watching football and stuffing my face with crap on Sunoer Bowl Sunday. A nice ride sounds like a good idea.
Also in for the big ride
I will not be able to join you all on this ride.  Experiencing serious FOMO considering I just threw on some new winter tires.  That said, I'll be in West Palm Beach FL.  SOO I'm really just trying to make myself feel less left out by attempting to make you all jealous.  Reverse psychology, or something like that!
y'all are simultaneously killing me and making me happy.

Pack food, dress in layers, ride steady.

have fun.
For anyone who hasn’t done this ride yet, go back to JP’s posts from Janary of 2017. It tells you everything you need to know about the ride, and why it’s awesome. Read the bits on what to bring (e.g. two tubes, CO2, gels, bars, money)
Everyone should experience the Superbowl ride epicness at least once in their lives.
I’m in and ready to set a PR for most granola bars eaten in a day!
