The Annual Super Bowl Century

Dotan,
While the offer is nice, it destroys the epic epicosity of it.

The idea that there is no support, no giving up keeps people on their best behavior and keeps them trying until they pass out.

Besides, I'd rather see you on the bike.

After taking a break from training (which I will resume very soon), I think you will have to turn your head back many times to see me on the bike...

But just to put it on the record. I am stronger than I was last year for sure.
Just got some Gatorskins and Untapped Maple gels (did you know maple syrup doesn't freeze?) and will most definitely be attending the superbowl sentury
So I haven't done a century before, but my longest ride to date is 85 miles this past fall. I've also been working my way though the Velocious Full Season plan and commuting 100 miles a week, so I think I can handle it. I've been up Bear with Rich and the Redbeard crew once before as well, but we took the train back.

Anybody mind if I join in?

Big up the gatorskins. Or any other winter specific rubber.

Dan I reckon you will be fine.
For those fearful of the distance, set an intermediate goal of climbing Bear mountain, then crossing the Bear Mountain bridge, going to Peekskill and taking the train home.

Once you climb Bear, it's a six-mile descent to the Inn.  Then two left turns, a right onto the bridge, right turn off the bridge, a one-mile climb and a two or three mile descent (super curvy, super fun), a short rise, and you're in Peekskill.  The train goes to Grand Central.

with that as a safety, bring enough food and drink for the whole ride.  Make sure you eat and drink on schedule.  If that means setting an alarm on your head unit, phone, or watch to eat every hour.  Bring some caffeinated gels in case you need a little extra boost.  While riding, keep good form, either skip pulling or make sure to take shorter pulls.

Make your decision after you climb Bear.
This sounds awesome, it's a ride I have wanted to do for a while. I'm most likely will be joining as long as I secure my wife's authorization (is not usual that I can take long time away from home in the weekend).

Just for reference, from past years and such, what would be the ETA back to GWB?
FYI I wont be there... Why you ask? Cus I passionately hate long rides :)

If some one can take a quick snaps here and there it'll will be cool to do a compilations of photos for the insta stories!

Thanks guys!
Good luck, weather is looking damn good too.
So I'm going to stay home for this one. I've developed a bit of a cough and figured its better to rest up than potentially get worse.

Next year though...
Just to clarify, there is NO support vehicle (SAG) tomorrow.
@DiegoSanchez For reference, the last time I did this was 2014 with a bunch of way (waaaay) stronger folks who were towing me along. Moving time door to door from sunset park Brooklyn was 7:21 with some significant stops along the way. It was truly an epic ride, and btw I was really out of shape at that time and still got through it okay.

Check out my activity on Strava: https://strava.app.link/InliYtSbJ3
Sunset Park shout out!
Nice job, I gave you kudos.
Thanks Bruce, still happy to get likes on rides from 6 year ago! I miss the old hood (and riding with pals in Brooklyn). Sad I won't make the ride tomorrow, but one day I'll be in "okay" enough shape to join again.
Bike is tuned up, granola bars made and I'll be able to avoid some birthday parties. I'm in for tomorrow. I don't believe I have the whole ride in my legs, especially from Queens. I'll make a U-turn somewhere along the way.
crew looking sharp and excited about the day ahead, at least before I had to head back, appearances by Keith and Bertucco roo

Good ride today. I had over 6 hours for 95 miles GWB to GWB. We started with 12 riders. Ten climbed Bear. Great riding by all. We are all going to be sore tomorrow

Ready to roll. (Sorry for picture quality. We were in the shadows)

JP lead us on some great seldom used routes. Bertucco joined us as well

Yes, Rich is talking on the phone while climbing Bear.  Apparently he was supposed to pick up option 3 (chocolate cake)

It was overcast and sort of chilly all day. That didn’t stop us from enjoying the summit

We arrived in Haverstraw just after their polar bear plunge. Darn?

The descents were pretty cold. We will probably all be windburned
I really enjoyed this ride! Thanks for the organization @PatrickGrehan, the fun (at times brutal) route @mugwump, and to everyone who made this a great 7 hours on a goddamn bicycle.

This was my longest ride (mileage wise) by 2+ miles! Also fairly confident my elevation gain is way off.

Also want to add, 100+ miles and ZERO flat tires/ mechanical strife! Thanks to everyone who took an extra second to check those tires and drivetrains before this ride 🙏
Great times on the road.

Diego, Eloy, James, Matt, Patrick, Remy, Ricky, Rich, Rob, me.  Ex-Kissenas Keith (original reason for ride) and Marc.

We lost Eloy early (he turned back and let us know), but then picked up ex-Kissena Rob Panzera on the bike path (planned) to Blauvelt.  Marc turned back (let us know) just outside of Saddle River.  Panzera turned back (let us know) at the north end of Tomkins Cove.  Love to hear from Remy and Rich, who decided to cross the Hudson early and take the train back from Peekskill.  Be nice to know they made it home--and how option three was.

Ricky was on a tear today and Patrick was holding back until he needed to.

Despite the sore legs, we managed a pretty decent pace line home on 9W.

I think Diego won the mileage prize amongst Kissenas. 128mi.  Keith was expecting to have around 120.

I also should apologize for my chain starting to squeak.  I thought I had taken care of it earlier in the week.  Alas.

As per expectations, the ride up and down into Peekskill was a little uncomfortable as many of the north East’s Chiefs fans hurried home to get in prime position for the game. My mood wasn’t helped by learning that England had lost to a resurgent France. Doesn’t matter, I’m half, now fully Welsh.

Things improved significantly when we discovered an industrial bakery in Peekskill. Coffee, x2 cakes and a nice train ride home capped off a good hard day on the bike and a big weekend overall.

Zwift/TrainerRoad/Training Peaks plans look like they are paying dividends for a number of guys. Looking forward to some early season racing now...

ps. Daddy Ricky is the only person I’ve ever met whose fitness goes up with a new born.
Great ride with everyone today. Thanks to @mugwump and @PatrickGrehan for directing/making sure we all stuck together. Thanks to everyone else who rolled for making it a really fun motivated ride.

It was a pretty solid pace the whole way and we really kept the stopping to a minimum. It was definitely biggest ride elevation wise (I think roughly 2000 feet more)  and mileage wise (by a roughly 4 miles). I for sure don’t want to eat another cliff blocks bar or blocks gummies for a few weeks though lol
Agreed with the gummies comment.

Thank you all for the ride, it was truly epic. And it fitted perfectly with my training as now I can seat back and enjoy my scheduled rest week :)

Also thanks @mugwump for the tips. I will be practicing my paceline skills Fridays with the crew.

Lastly, great superbowl game! Won myself a bet from which I will be buying myself a brand new Kissena jersey, when is the next order coming along?
@DiegoSanchez Next kit order should open in a week or so.

Forgot to mention the most humorous interaction with motorists on the ride:

Heading into Tompkins Cove a driver coming the other way shouted out “Pumpkin Heads!” as he passed. We got a good chuckle out of that.

Matt proposed making Kissena t-shirts with the Hashtag #pumpkinheads
@PatrickGrehan , i think he was referring to you in your POC =)
@Mark Taylor  yes, I am no doubt the biggest pumpkin head in my Large POC, but I insist that the gentleman in question used the plural “heads”. This means it applies to you too 😜
Thank you everyone for the great ride yesterday. I'd like to thank to big engines for pulling me on numerous occasions and for the group for adjusting the pace.

I knew I couldn't complete the whole ride. I intended on making a U-turn eventually but as we were getting close to Bear Mountain, I could not resist the urge to climb it. The train ride back made the most sense as I knew I would not be able to ride all the way to the city. I found that the road to Peekskill is a little unpleasant in spite of the scenic view. Probably the lack of shoulder on the climb.

The train ride was nice and toasty.

Thanks again for the awesome ride.
Tomorrow’s the big day! Because of the expected weather and you know, the whole pandemic, I’m gonna do 100km on Zwift.

I’m going to set up a meet up with a start time of 10am. We’ll be rolling through the French countryside and shooting the shit. Let me know if you want to join and I’ll send you an invite!
I’d like an invite. Just as a disclaimer, I got sick and felt like crap for a while. Tomorrow I might join since I miss bikes and stuff, but I might not.

Also, is it ok to talk Super Bowl in a cycling forum? I’m just so excited to see if Brady will be able to pull this off.
