And I just stumbled across this place: http://www.cannibalnyc.com/If they don't show the Tour, then the name should be revoked! The homepage prominently states: "the garden is covered, heated and very bike friendly." It also quotes LeMond.
(EDIT: forgot to say - I'm gone this weekend and next but would absolutely be down for watching a few stages when I'm back....)
...and if anyone wants a PG-rated viewing experience, we'll be showing stage 1 on Saturday at Bicycle Habitat. City Bakery will be catering - croissants, coffee, etc.
Thanks, Jules, for putting it all together. It was good food, beer, and company. I ate ribs, drank, and talked bike stuff. That's summer right there, I'll tell you what.
Photos here if anyone has others feel free to link away.
Kind reminder to the folks who signed up on Doodle but didn't show - we had to prepay for the space/food and there is still a shortfall between the money raised and what we paid Dinosaur.
I know I'm going to appear a real @sshole here, but I'm used to that so ....
When the doodle poll was put up, where did it say that expressing interest in a time slot was a firm commitment to attend and pay ? I don't see that on Doodle nor on the communication dated 18th or 21st.
@Ian it's a fair point and in the future we'll make it crystal clear (although there was also a note on the 26th you didn't mention) Still, if 40 people sign up and we reserve for 30 and only 20 pay... it's a shame to stick the club with the remainder.
Several people have already contributed, for what it's worth.
I can find a note on the 26th informing us of the cost, although that still doesn't mention that all those who expressed an interest are now considered confirmed. And I didn't mention it because it came out after the poll.
While I don't wish the club to be out of pocket and while I recognize that organizing these things is a big logistical challenge, I do think the communication was a out of sequence.
People should have know it was a firm commitment to pay once signed and they should have known a ballpark cost before the poll opened because both of those would factor into their decision.
Tried this last year, but work and other shit got in the way. So, hopefully second times a charm. In short:
MY WIFE AND KIDS ARE AWAY. FOR MOST OF THE SUMMER.
Which means - I have the crib to myself, a yard and a grill, and a fridge with a milk:beer ratio in my favor for a few precious weeks.
There's an R&A race on Saturday July 20.....which means most folks won't be racing on Sunday morning.....
That being the case - I'm keen to have a have a meat-grillin', beer-swillin' Saturday hang out. I'll have the TdF Stage 20 on DVR for watching the replay if you haven't watched by then already...it has 6 climbs including a Cat 1 and an HC. And I can have plenty of veggie/non-alcoholic options for the straight edge roleurs.
