Stunned, I looked at him from behind my glasses.

could lure this gentleman close to a PVC barrier under the guise of some
top shelf cyclocross clinic demonstration, if you get the wind right the
ensuing blast radius could in fact kill him

I was trying come up with a geographically appropriate reply, but I'm all out of idea. There are however always the geographically-agnostic complete A-hole-ish-
- You ride 30 miles! Are you a pro?
- Oh. I get off and walk all of the hills--uphill and downhill.
- I did 60 miles, but I've only been out for two hours and that's just the first loop.
- I'm from Brooklyn. We have a park there called Prospect Park and one lap around it is 30 miles, or maybe it's 3 miles? I cant remember.
- When I was in prison I used to dream about days like this. Hey you wanna ride together?
I seem to be devoid of anything kind to say. That makes me sad.
Enjoy the Cape. Do they still have those cool sand dunes there near Provincetown that you can hurl yourself down? You may want to do it in a few years when you kids can fling themselves responsibly.
I had a moment this morning and tried a different tact with the offending driver. On my ride towards PP this morning right near the intersection of Atlantic and Furman (near Pier 6 of Brooklyn Bridge Park) an SUV comes screaming around and passes a minivan with a halal cart. There is only one lane of travel in either direction and he nearly hits me in a head on collision. I had my blinking front and rear lights on but it was a bit of a curve there and he wouldn't have seen me until after he committed to passing the guy (illegally).
After getting my heart back in my chest, I decide to turn around and speak to the guy who is now stopped at a light on Furman @ Joralemon. After stopping alongside him and instead of yelling at him, I somewhat consciously told him he "scared the shit out of me", he apologized and I then indicated that it was a no passing zone for a reason. It was a short encounter but I at least seemed to get an acknowledgement from him that he was in the wrong. Hopefully he won't be so cavalier about speeding and passing people in the future.
He apologized but said the bank was closing, so ya know.
uptown.
Or you were afraid to get dropped in the 110berg because of the waiting
gang bangers.

Given that I commute and train on the west side bike path all winter, I am more than concerned with this development. I do not normally ride that far north in the dark, but would worry that others might get inspired by the idea.
Yes, that stretch is completely avoided by taking Riverside.
With regard to the 110berg, my wife has a horrible story about a friend whose arm was broken as he defended a friend's brand new bike from thieves in the 70's. Maybe the cops should stop and frisk more cyclists.
