I can't believe how every article in the Post mentions that he was riding a "$4,000 JAMIS ECLIPSE bike." Is there some product placement angle to this I'm just not getting? (Not to detract from the seriousness of the situation, but if he paid full retail for that, that is a crime.)

Data needs context, and also proof, and while a competent attorney could sway a jury, a strava ride isn't evidence, in and of itself, it was you on that bike.

So, like JPs 29th place, I don't know it was JP who actually set that record. . . Sorry buddy. But your bike computer was there!

This brings up a point about bike computers. It would seem wrapping your hands on that device and jamming it into your pocket after an accident may not be a bad idea. Certainly don't want to upload any data after an accident. I don't suggest lying to anyone about it's existence, but hanging onto it and letting your attorney figure out the best time to present it may be a prudent course of action.

Funny you mention that @J.P. My first (of many) drafts of my above post, in fact, included the "r word" in describing the bike, but when I went back and reviewed today's NY Post article
as part of my cite checking procedures I noticed that they had omitted the word "racing" (which indeed appeared in earlier articles) and described it only as a " $4,000 Jamis Eclipse bike." Perhaps they consulted an "expert" in the interim who opined that in as much as the Eclipse was primarily a steel bike (albeit with carbon top tube in most recent iterations) it could no longer qualify as a "race bike" under the 2014 BCSAAMG (Bike Company Standard Advertising Adjective Metrics Guide [TM]) as it potentially lacked the requisite lateral stiffness. Today's NY Post article did describe it as a "high-performance bike" however. I suspect later versions of the article will be corrected in accordance with the BCSAAMG standards to read a " vertically compliant high-performance bike designed to conquer all day epics."

a Post article quotes a guy who claimed to have been almost hit by the same cyclist in CP, saying...."he was going 35 m.p.h.....ON AN INCLINE!"

that's what a vertically compliant, high-performance bike designed to conquer all day epics will enable you to do.

in other news - the bike hate is at an all-time high. this is a tragedy - but then again, so are the 2 cyclists killed every day by cars in the country. but you won't hear about those in our tabloids, of course....

Seems like Scott Savory was interviewed by the Times because he has the fastest Strava'ed time in Central Park. Here's his report on FB about it...

"I just did an interview for the NY Times on the recent accident that occurred in Central Park between a cyclist and pedestrian a few days ago. I was contacted due to having the fastest Central Park lap via Strava, this time of course is of no significance to me, until today where I was given the opportunity to voice my conservative views on the incident and how bad some of the reporting has been, and on how it has taken away from the loss of life due to what has been understood as pure accident, especially the reporting of The New York Post. It seems the NY Times are looking for a problem solution write up, and one including strava times, a positive and a negative, waiting to see how the article will be written. ‪#‎themedia‬ let's hope good vs bad as usual."

Mike's pretty diplomatic. We need to do a TTT to make him the fastest Strava CP aficionado and give good copy.

And god Strava is dumb. I've been on there twice. Once bc someone asked me and I uploaded files. The only other time was yesterday bc I rode with my brother last week and he was making jokes about it.

Christ, if I'm 8th up Bradley. You know most good people aren't on there if I'm top ten. Chabanov is a minute faster.

I got a brief update from his fiancé: Dale is in the hospital and is staying overnight it seems. He hit his head pretty hard and neither he or her know what happened apparently. He's coherent and stable. Hopefully will be released tomorrow.
