I thought Wes did.
Aye @Jules- That's the one.  Although I'm starting to think his aggressive demeanor is more than manifestation of a neurological disorder rather than a wacked personality.  But who am I to diagnose?

Well he was riding backwards down the hill today over and over again... sure hope he got a ticket.
@jules - black giro atmos helmet?

No idea.  Rick is a big hulk usually wearing a cotton Molten shirt or similar.  Doesn't sound like the Castelli-wearing type.
(But that said, I'm glad to hear the wing has healed up nicely and you're back dodging assholes in the park)
Oh god we have to identify this moron. There's nothing more I enjoy than fucking with delusional, aging "bike racers"
........

Nice job Wes keeping it cool.
Did he have a beard? If so, that could have been Rick, aka "Beast". He's a mentally complicated man and usually a strong rider. I've seen that dude do some very obnoxious things. He rides a steel bike. Orange, I think. This sounds like something he'd do.
What a special encounter.  Wes, whenever you're feeling down, just think of him.  Then pat yourself on the back for being the type of person that recognizes it takes 2 people to start a fight.
Oh man...this isn't good.  The name/photo of the cyclist implicated in the story looks familiar to me but I've never met him - any of y'all know him?

Frankly, I'm all for banning bikes in Central Park between 8am and 8pm. Let's stop these other guys who clearly don't give a sh!t about injuring people from giving the rest of us a bad name.
Interestingly enough his achievements include second on *72 and street and
third on Harlem hill sept 18th.......

Hmmmm

Updated now that I'm back from the park*

So I'm spinning around at a snails pace between intervals in a pretty empty park minding my own business when some castilli'ed out older guy screams at me from behind to watch the f out. I'm thinking to myself "whaa??" Then I realized I moved to my right about 12 inches to avoid a branch in the road (keep in mind I'm pretty much hugging the line for the joggers lane).

So I reply " sorry for moving a foot" (yes he was going that slow that he wasn't out of sight by this point). The old man gets agro and says, "wtf did you say kissena cat4???" So I say, "I'm just recovering between intervals, you have the entire road, keep your head up and we'll all be alright."

He didn't like that all and tells me to shut my fucking mouth before he slaps me. Naturally, I laugh in his face and say "hahah are you going to assault me?" He kept at it before calling me a "dildo" and riding away.

TIL - dont get between a fred and his park KOM. Uploaded via iphone. Excuse the grammar / spelling.

Updates*
- No, I didnt get his bike make / color
- Yes, I got a very good look at his face
- Yes, the joggers in the jogger lane were laughing out loud
- Yes, I pulled over in the middle of my workout to upload that to the forum, haha.
- He was probably in his late 40s/ early 50s. A lean'ish 6ft something with salt and pepper hair. He definetly seemed like a racer.
That definitely sounds like Rick the Beast/Prick whatever you want to call him.

I was out doing slow laps after I had stopped training/racing because of my health issues, about 1 1/2 years ago, and he came riding by cursing at me.  Not sure why - maybe because I dared to pass him on the rollers near 3rd Street?  Anyway, he rode almost an entire lap within shouting distance, swearing at me, swerving his bike toward mine, etc...

Not sure if it's the same character, but sure sounds like him. Total sociopath.

Rick is overweight and would never be described as lean, at least not this year.  He doesn't wear a helmet, so doubtful he'd look like a racer.

I'm no fan of Rick but this really doesn't sound like him.

It is well meaning, but that sounds like a form of collective punishment for people who may only have time to ride during those hours.

This is a bad, bad accident and high profile to boot (wife of a television exec).  People hate on "STUPID LANCE ARMSTRONG TOUR DE FRANCE SPANDEX WANNABES" even without incidents like this in the first place.  In fact according to The Post, there is plenty of irrational hate on any type of cyclist in the first place so we're starting at a defensive position to begin with.

I don't know if there is a silver bullet that can prevent all accidents like this, but what our club tried to do this year - work with the park and law enforcement - is a really important component.  We can't be responsible for independent riders or tourists or delivery guys riding like maniacs, but we can try to internally educate and enforce red light/stop sign policies via local clubs and organizations.
I don't know Jason Marshall personally at all but I'm friends with him on Facebook. He hit me up w the friend request. I gather he is a pretty new to cycling and racing. He seems pretty gung-ho. I hope he wasn't at fault. In his work a day world he's a pro gigging jazz sax player
I'm sure it goes without saying but everyone will be super on edge about bike/pedestrian safety after this.

I know that Kissenas are hands down the nicest riders out there - please if it's possible take it up a notch with the general civility and safety while you're out there; smile, wave and make way for ducklings.
Looks like the police in CP will crack down on a few things (of course). From the CRCA website:

Letter to CRCA Members on Safety in Central Park

September 19, 2014

CRCA is deeply saddened to learn of the collision involving a cyclist and a pedestrian in Central Park Thursday afternoon. Our collective thoughts are with Jill Tarlov and her loved ones during this very difficult time.

As we await further official details surrounding the incident, we would like to remind all of our members, and other park users, to be ever vigilant and considerate of each other when enjoying our park. This is especially crucial as Central Park becomes increasingly popular and more crowded as a result.

We strongly urge everyone to re-familiarize yourself with CRCA’s Code of Conduct and Central Park Protocol, as well as NYC Cycling-related Traffic Laws & Regulations. CRCA members agree to abide by these rules upon becoming members and these rules apply at all times, not just during CRCA races. Actions likely to endanger the wellbeing of others will not be tolerated. Identified CRCA members will be held accountable for violations of our Code of Conduct pursuant to the CRCA Bylaws. Police have communicated that enforcement of potentially dangerous riding will increase in the near future. In particular they will be focused on:

– Failure to yield to pedestrians
– Failure to stop at red lights
– Wearing headphones/earbuds in both ears

We need your help in spreading the word to all of your teammates and friends about the importance of how we conduct ourselves in Central Park. Most members are doing the right thing, but we know it only takes one moment of bad judgement from one individual to cause major problems for all of us.

Please remember that as members of CRCA, we are an extraordinarily visible and identifiable group, and therefore, each of us serves as an ambassador for the group. With that in mind, please be attentive and courteous to other park users in every circumstance – let’s be positive ambassadors.

Thank you for your help in this group effort.

– CRCA Board
Thanks Phil. It's a terrible shame that the guy the press identified seems to be a CRCA member, thus involving "racers" in the incident.
