Coincidentally, I was in Austin this past weekend.  A friend had given me a route to try , but it was super foggy and I kept getting turned around.  It was early enough, that I went to  Mellow Johnny's to join a group ride and accident was discussed.  Andrew was a good friend of the group lead, Joe.  I can't remember Joe's specific message to the group, but the note was somber and Joe led the ride as planned. 

Technically this is a repost but I came across it recently and I thought it funny enough to share - the date is early 1950's, and the place in question is of course Central Park. Grandpa used to ride 9w on a single speed (!). 

So basically Western Australia is... paradise?

Ouch! Is this a gravel race? 

Yes. I'm not really sure what happened other than in a pack a pair of baby-head sized rocks were shot into my front wheel and I went down instantly on my face, into the gravel.

A guy I regularly spank on the Wednesday night worlds was 2nd today, so I'm a little gutted I didn't get a chance to win in KCC colors, but overall I'm just happy I've only got road rash and a chipped tooth to complain about.

So true. So, so true. 

I little more than a week out I thought I'd post an update.
Redbeard helped me out with some busted bike parts and a new helmet, so the bike is back online.

The good:

• My gravel rash is healing really, really well. So well I have to say I'd rather fall on gravel than pavement - and three cheers for both duoderm (has synthetic fibrin in it) and tegaderm.
• Lisa put a couple of stitches in my lip and they did the trick - and came out on wednesday.
• The cuts inside my mouth remain pretty raw but that means I'm eating a bit less - so yay, couple of pounds lighter.
• The initial shame of hitting the deck has faded somewhat
• Chipped tooth is patched; even smoother than the original.

The not so good:

I've been super short tempered this week. Hair trigger ragey. Classic post concussion symptom. Even though I don't think I lost consciousness, I hit my face hard enough to chip a tooth and cracked my helmet... so, there is that. I'm not happy to share this news, but I hope being forthright about it will remind people that #concussionshappen and to take care of yourselves when they do.

Thanks Eloy. Nobody likes to admit they're injured, let alone got their brain whacked. I'll be 100% eventually. If it took me a week to admit it to myself, maybe this post will help someone else cut that time down to... six days?

I did see my best 6 minute effort for the year this week, so I've got that going for me.

I was impressed with how little road rash he had on his right side.

I had to watch several times to figure out how he tore the shorts his LEFT hip. Otherwise I have to say that guy can take a punch. Damn his head his hard and he only lost 20 seconds on the stage 

Amazing how much he crashes

I nearly got brought in by the Central Park Precinct for riding in the right lane in Central Park.  The policeman in a mini car claimed I couldn't be there.  I asked what the relevant law was, where could I see signage that attested to this.  He told me he didn't have to show me anything.

He was an asshole.  Told me he was going to bring me in for not carrying a driver's license.  But because he couldn't get another car to come help, he then accused me of providing him false information and let me go with a warning.

Then, there was a bike crash on the downhill just past the apex by Harlem meer.  the ambulance was in the middle lane at the apex, and the cop arrived, put his mini car in the right lane, in a low visibility spot, making it hard for cyclists to do anything else other than go in the jogger's lane.

I went home and looked on the web for rules about the lanes.  None were posted.

Does anyone know if there is a relevant rule or law on this for either Central or Prospect?
