re: rainey, keep in mind if getting there by train from distant that there's tons of mta delays, use www.mta.info to get a sense, don't use google maps.  i thought the race was yesterday and navigating there was a shit show. ended up riding, which was actually quite fun

Well 2nd for my age group but there were like 5 fields smooshed together this mornin
think it was cat V, womens, and two masters fields 45-55 & 55 & over
They changed the course and this week was pretty epic with the weather.  The course went along the Sagtikos Parkway at one stretch with full exposure to the blowing winds.  It got muddy quick and Yacks v-brakes started suckin in snow and mud after lap 1...Yacks pulls away from the gun  and stayed in the lead until the beginning of lap 2 where I was caught and eventually passed by 4 guys.  A glimpse at wattage indicates I went too hot for the first 5 minutes (306 avg) vs the last race (250 avg).  My saddle felt too low as I had the suspension post set up too soft...but the hr & power were higher than the last race...181 hr 255 watts vs 180 hr & 252 watts = almost identical cept I went out too hot and I paid today.
Last guy to catch me was on such a nice carbon bike with carbon hoops & E-Tap...yes E-tap!  He must have been in the 55 + field...chapeau old man...chapeau
Now I played around using both front chain rings for the 1st 4 laps before realizing it was more efficient just to stay in the small front ring.  Discs would have been nice...and maybe a frame with a downtube and some E-tap but Yacks enjoys the Slingshot and the inevitable interest from people which today I parlayed into a bottle of water, then a doughnut & finally some coffee...so just call the bike "stone soup".  It was certainly "cross weather" today and you don't get many chances to race in the snow.  
I believe I'm now tied for 1st in my age group for the series with one race left. 

I'll post more photos tomorrow. Everyone at Rainey looked super sharp. Real hotness.

Disc brake pads got kicked up with sand and dirt. After a long season I finally had to replace the pads which were grinding through the race

I burned through my rear v brake pads last week at Cunningham...for $6 I get 3 sets of pads..."technology, innovation, quality & service"...so fa they are alritz...see what they did there?

I almost "destroyed" Maxs' neck when he lost his mojo and I crashed on top of him last weekend...wonder of utter lack of any rear brakes contributed to that???
