^possivly but if I’ve got to rendezvous with Lisa and the kids in New York and then get home again it may end up being a little...

Hippocross could provide a real hot alternative.
True, but Granogue is a very tough act to replace.

Come race Granogue. Labor day weekend.
Yeah, not so likely in the cards I think. Love me some Granogue though. Eloy's camera gets extra juju near that tower, I swear.
I am heading to the CycleSmart CX camp in Northampton Mass Friday. If anyone was considering going, I can offer a ride and can share a hotel room. Ellen Noble will be one of the coaches. They still have spots open in bikereg. I did this a few years back and found it really helpful whether you are a beginner or advanced rider. Message me if you are interested.

Of course, the club will have its own cross season kick off CX clinic either in later August or early September.
A map of all the local series that can be sorted by date or series. Helpful for planning how far you want to drive for your muddy racing days.

Aqua Blue Sport sign Wout van Aert in purchase of his Sniper Cycling team

https://cyclingtips.com/2018/08/aqua-blue-acquires-sniper-cycling-wellens-takes-wallonia-overall-daily-news-digest/
Aqua Blue Sport announced the acquisition of Sniper Cycling, the company behind the Vérandas Willems–Crelan team of Wout Van Aert, but within hours of the acquisition being made public, the team proceeded to wipe away an news of it from its website and social media channels. The team’s owner Rick Delaney also sent out an oddly worded tweet, which can be seen below

So basically, who knows? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

ah, "professional" teams

Regarding @AnthonyOtt suggestion and @eloy response,

While that's an excellent slate of races, I think a slate of "team" races should be closer to home.  Much closer.  Like within 90 driving miles of NYC.  Something where we can get both those who are committed to racing all the big regional races and those who are just dipping a toe into the muddy cross pond.

to that end, I think the google map document Dan shared from the NYC CX FB page is most helpful.

in terms of driving distance, I think those races could include:

Bubble Cross
Lucky Charm CX
Hippo Cross
HPCX
SCCX
Westwood Velo CX
Newtown CX
Sunken Meadow CX
Rainey Park CX
Of course, our Super Cross Cup
Those are good races. @mugwump

My list wasn't complete, as it would include some of these.

Cooper River, is super close too.

If you think of races as local, regional, and national, there's obvious benefit to mix them a bit and experience all sizes.

For example, Charm City, Northampton, or Supercross, will include the best cyclists and best production in the nation, which is amazing to witness and be a part of. And then from an competitive/fitness/skill those races will force you to places you would never otherwise visit.

Of course, local matters too, because if you are doing it right, you'll suddenly be racing for 3rd place, and that too pushes to places that are hard to visit.

Cross is awesome. Let's go race bikes.
Caffeinated Cross is worth the trip to South Jersey.
Everyone who is contemplating some Cyclocross  GLORY this fall should make room for SuperCross weekend in their schedules. It’s the weekend before Thanksgiving and it’s a UCI race that Kissena organizes.

Do not miss this hotness!

Also, as everyone knows the only thing hotter than racing Cross is helping to organize a race and THEN racing cross.

the Glory is all there for the taking... SEIZE IT!
Went to the Cycle-Smart cross camp this weekend. Last I checked there were still spots in this weekend's camp. I strongly recommend it. Read on

It rained heavily Friday into Saturday morning so we had some pretty muddy conditions which was perfect. Rain let up for some nice days to run drills. I had not expected to be dealing with muddy ruts and pushing the edge of traction in slop in early August.

The first day was mostly working on mounts, dismounts and cornering. I was trying to unlearn some bad habits. Also had some great discussions about training and course analysis.

The second day was even better. In addition to more cornering, log hopping skills and starts, we headed to the local mountain bike trails to work on handing skills. I got to follow Adam Myerson, Al Donahue and Ellen Noble on the trails to follow their lines and had Ellen follow me and give me feedback. They are all crazy good at what they do. Al bombs descents with zero fear. Ellen is so incredibly smooth. They all break down courses with laser precision.

Head out there this weekend. You won't regret it.

BUMP

Mark posted about the annual Kissena CX clinic and kick off at Cunningham Park. He proposed August 18th or 19th. Turns out there is an L&C race on the 18th. Can we get a show of hands who can make it on the 19th?

Also, if you are interested in going but can't make the 19th please say so.

If I have the time I might try to make these barriers for the club. Al Donahue designed them. What is cool is that by using a couple of 2x4s you can get three heights by taking out the top two 2x4s. They are solid enough not to get destroyed easily. Anyone with woodworking skills want to work on a project with me?

I am Jules' raging jealousy

I am definitely interested in the Aug 19th CX Clinic, but I’ll be out of town.
I can do Aug 19.
@PatrickGrehan
I can definitely do Aug 19th.  I have mountain bike SPD shoes (pedals are up in VT).  Any kind souls care to lend me a cross bike so I can try to get a little dirty!? Otherwise, I am more than willing to try and rent one for the weekend if that is a viable option.
@ErikPfiffner how tall are you?
The 19th sounds good.  Down for a meetup afterwards to talk about racing logistics as well, if that makes sense.
Any thoughts around adding the local cross races to the calendar at the top of the forum?
@PatrickGrehan 6'1" My road bike is a 56, though.
@AnthonyOtt. Yes on both ideas re online calendar and discussing who is going to races
Can we confirm a head count for this on the 19th
In for Cunningham on the 19th, @Mark Taylor do you still have room in your car + bike??
I'll be there.
