For reference: riding from my apartment in central Brooklyn has never been a fitness challenge, only a mental one, and only that occasionally. There are a lot of twists and turns and, depending on the time of day, heavy car traffic. Cunningham is a sub-30-minute ride at low-intensity from Jamaica Station. My preference is taking the LIRR to Jamaica and riding from there.
@AnthonyOtt In regards to posting CX race list in calendar - we are working on it, although our ideal solution would be a list where members could indicate which races they are going to ease organization of transportation, etc.
@ErikPfiffner I will bring my pit bike for you to borrow, but there are two issues. First, its a 52cm frame so a bit small for you and second, I don't use SPDs, so you'll need to bring pedals if you want to use cleats. Alternatively, I have a larger hard tail you can use if you prefer.
Also, If someone was considering Phil's Giant TCX, we could probably arrange to get it to Cunningham for people to try.
I think it's probably a 15-16 mile ride. Go over the 59th street bridge, guide yourself to the Kissena Velodrome, then it's another mile or two past the velodrome.
I did it the last time we had the clinic. Don't know yet if I have the time to make it for this one.
A (cyclocross) bike (preferably with a downtube )with knobby tires and mountain pedals -- no road pedals! Helmet Spare tire/ 2 INNER TUBES WATER, LOTS OF WATER Snack
Sunday weather forecast says it will be relatively cool, but I'll definitely bring some extra bottles for people.
Also heads up, our part of town is being sprayed with anti-mosquito stuff. Not supposed to be terribly harmful in small quantities, but still might be a consideration for people sensitive about this stuff.
Dusted off the cross bike and circled the neighborhood and into the softball fields. Besides the shit brakes that need work (to quote Eric Ragot,"Don't need brakes anyway."), probably the funnest bike I have. Looking forward to falling with it a lot this Sunday. Is a ride through the trails in the schedule?
I am probably gonna get on the 7:43 am Atlantic to Hollis, which would put me on the trails at 8:30am -- and then I might ride the trails for a few minutes.
If I'm lazy and waking up late, I'll ride the 8:43 am train, which should put at the clinic at 9:30 am.
Fun times today. We had 12 crossers who hurdled over barriers, carved corners and raced each other during hot laps. Then a group of us shredded muddy trails. No ice cream, but we did drink beer to cap off the clinic!
Great seeing old pals (and meeting new-to-me members). Every year I pretend that I hate cross, and every year I attend the clinic, and every year I ride away with a big smile on my face (and a big bruise from wiping out). Sorry I couldn't stick around for the trails and beer. Thanks to the club directors for putting on the event, it is genuinely one of the highlights of the year.
