Women’s CX worlds race is AMAZING!
YEAS! what an amazing race! what ride by Sanne Cant, that command of "I'm gonna be second wheel, and you might win, but you'll have to beat me" what shame with the Brand bike exchange and mechanic -- nothing even close to that should never happen, more so at that level -- what super hardcore last lap. What honest heartbreak and elation on the podium. Bike racing poetry drama. Forever.
this fucking moment
I was on the trainer and my daughter was on the couch watching with me. I was overheating because she kept stealing the fan to dry her sweaty palms! Awesome racing.

I was watching an Italian feed I couldn't figure out what happened to Neff. She had made her way up to the front group and was riding strong and then all of a sudden she was gone. What did I miss?
it is not exactly clear but, so far, everything appears to suggest that Neff simply exploded
Simon Burney reacted, much like I did, and blamed the mechanic for Brand's faux pass, but looking at the video above, and the take from behind, is obvious that Lucinda is still on the pedal, perhaps even clipped in, probably deep in the red, when she hands over the bike, there's no way she would not have crashed.

Turns out that mechanic is her dad, which only adds to the drama and beauty of it all. What a ride.
Amazing race , I watched it twice, live and then on my rollers, crash was defiantly an impact on the result but could help feeling that the off camber run up , lost her seconds every lap
i was shouting for both Lucinda and Sana
Yeah, Cant handled the off camber ever so slightly better every time. If I remember right Brand had closed to 4 seconds on the last lap just before it and was at 6 seconds right after.

The whole time I was thinking about how brutally similar the situation was to a 4 against 1 break away in a road race. Having to cover every single attack and then just riding everyone off your wheel. But in CX its the power plus the technical skill.

Here's hoping the men's race will be as exciting.
Same section decided the men’s race
Sort of, but I think the result would have been the same had Vout been able to ride it clean every time.

Felt so bad for Toon - he did a great job of capitalizing on Vout's sulking and almost pulled off the silver.
Sulking ? The dude had gob all over him , he went so deep to get back the first time VDP attacked, then Matthew took a lap of deep breaths and went
I don’t normally route for the fave , but I think it would of been a terrible shame not to see MVDP in the rainbow stripes

The men’s race was more exciting to watch than I expected. Loved the Belgian v Dutch attacks in first few laps and really loved seeing the beautiful duel when WVA chased MVdP down.

WVA rode a great race but MVdP is a totally deserving World Championship “god”. He rode that off camber (and everything else) so cleanly - he made it look easy. Was it skill? Certainly. I have also seen commentary that MVdP’s lighter weight enabled his 33 tires to maintain traction on that section. WVA looked like he had more weight on his rear wheel. Being lighter might have helped: watch Van der Harr for example.

Ran accross this photo of the two of them on Twitter. While WVA has been gracious in interviews, I suspect that he still feels what is expressed in his body language.

I think he was sulking near the end. He definitely went deep early but I think once it became obvious that MVP was not coming back Vout was visibly disappointed. I don't blame him - not easy to give up being champ after a long run.

I agree - glad that MVP won.
Neal Rodgers take on the Weekend, with focus on Brand's ride. He checks in with Mark Legg, Myerson and others.

On the international race broadcast and across Twitter, there was a sentiment that the pit mishap was not Brand’s fault, and that it cost Brand the win. I don’t believe either of those are accurate
Simply put, the pit mishap didn’t cost her the rainbow jersey; a consistent lack of control throughout the race did.
By contrast, Cant never bobbled. She never panicked. She was flawless with her bike exchanges and across the course’s treacherous off-camber section.

basically agree with the gist.

Maybe a bit early for the CX thread... but making sure that some clinics are on our radars

On the high end, there's four days with Jeremy Powers, August 15 to 18:
https://www.jeremypowerscrosscamp.com/

On the more affordable end, Cyclesmart clinics are world famous, and have sold out in the past. Patrick has attended at least a couple of times..., August 3 to 4

(also, never really too early for the CX thread ;) )
If you're serious about cross, professional coaching is pure gold. If you're only interested - it's even better.
Speaking of a bit early - anyone considering going to the Trek Cup in Madison Waterloo, WI?

cyclocross is coming, and here's the most important King Kog 2019 NYC race spread sheet:

I'm starting to look over the tentative schedule. I will be absent for a few weeks from Sept 30 through October 16. I'm going to Europe with my family to put my dad in his final resting places. I should be able to do some riding when I get to Tuscany since I have a bike there. In France I will try to keep up with some running.

My last track race will be on September 15th, if the schedule pans out, I'm hoping to race Newtown in CT on the 22nd, and when I get back Belltown CT on the 20th. I usually plan to race two fields for a total of 80-90 min of racing. I can offer rides as long as pickup is not completely out of my way. (I'm coming from eastern LI.) As of right now I only have two thru-axle adaptors for my roof racks but I might get a few more for the other two racks (I have a total of 4 racks.)
Jesus ,.even Wout isn't thinking about cross yet  :)
He's got a good reason right now... Besides the two week trip, I'm planning to go from racing track 1-3 times a week right into CX, all the way to December.   B)
everyone is thinking about cross Mark! get with the times!!

Finally, the Kissena crew gets to see how obsessive @AndrewJohnson is with cross racing!
I'm not as obsessed as others are. I just go out race 40-90 minutes come home shot. Thoroughly tear down the bike to un-seize it from all the mud. Repeat the next weekend. Get to December and never want to race again.. Until Roller Races in January... lol...

just to put on everyone's radar, these are likely my first couple of races, also the first 3 MAC races:

Sunday September 8th // Whirlybird 'cross // MAC

Sat Sep 14 - Sun Sep 15, 2019 // Nittany Lion Cross // MAC
https://www.bikereg.com/14th-annual-nittany-lion-cross

It’s worth noting that Cat 4/5 fields are usually staged by order or registration. Plus the two races Eloy posted often fill up. If you are racing the Cat 4/5 field and want to be near the front for a start register NOW. (Nittany reg opens Thursday).
