Cyclocross!

I remember that race well! Supercross 2011. I thought I was going to win that day until one of the screws on my cleat came off and I was trapped in my pedal at the bottom of the stairs. Good times.

It's a long trainer season. If you're looking for something to watch the Women's World CX race is really something else. It only gets better and better as the race goes on.
I've been alerted that HPCX and Charm City are the same weekend. Here's hoping promoters realize how bad that is. I encourage you all to reach out and put pressure on them to change and pick different weekends.
Jim Feehan posted about the MAC series two weeks ago. The date changes are a significant problem for the series. I would think (and hope) that Tom Mains would change the date of HPCX if he was able to, no?

agree. but we can let him how we feel about it.

Besides how silly it is to make Mid Atlantic cxers choose between the two races, I think he is honestly putting HPCX at risk of not surviving to 2021 is he keeps it the same weekend than Charm City

Emailed Tom. He says that Charm City is currently applying to move to weekend of Nov 14
DCCX and CharmCity 2020 are cancelled

seemed inevitable I’m afraid
RSCX will not race this year, regardless if races come back or not. Feels like the right decision.

Is HPCX on this year?!!
Is HPCX on this year?!!
Have not heard, but I doubt they'll be any cyclocross races at all.

Cyclocross is everything you want cycling to be

Did my first cyclocross race this weekend. Holy hell that's a complete different style of racing. There was a small 25 person field put on at the local bike park in Boulder, so I decided why not. Started on the last line because it was my first race. I coasted the first lap to really get a feel for how these races unfold and from there on out I was pushing each lap faster. I managed to catch every one beside the group of four that was a min faster on the first lap and not much elsewhere. Surprisingly, my mounts and running with the bike were the strongest thing of that race. I'd pass like a group I was with on the 2 stair cases each lap. I got more and more comfortable racing and taking turns hot as the race progressed.

Overall, I ended up 5th spot for the fives. Today my body was wrecked. I never ran and shouldered a bike before. I am also very happy with the whole covid practice out here for it. No lingering around and chatting before and after the race. it was show up, get temp taken and numbers, go back to you car, warm up on the streets (no course preview), show up 5 mins before, mask down at 30secs to go, race and leave. I know this is a riskier event to do right now, but I figured since I don't have contact with people outside of this it wasnt too bad.
That's awesome! You'll be contenting the front group in no time, especially if you skip the "coasting the first lap" part

One of my favorite things to see each cross season is watching teammates try cross for the first time and get completely hooked. I am already missing cross practice in Cunnigham and driving all over to get my 40 to 50 minutes of asphyxiation.

Keep the reports coming so we can live vicariously through you.

And of course, stay safe
I like the sound of how they run the race out there. Great result for your first ever race!

I’ve been pondering a very long post on all the things I miss about cross... the racing, the absurd drives that start before dawn, the post race carwash bike cleans, the bizarre mechanicals, the scrapes, absurd slide-outs on off camber mud, the feeling of elation at keeping speed around a tricky corner, endless, endless sprinting, the bells, the smell of fall leaves and the tase of blood in my lungs, the frantic calendar planning-stay-up-late-bikereg clicking, the zombie-dread fear of trying to use a portapotty in a skinsuit, the embro, the tire gluing, the announcers, the smiling exhausted faces, the impossible weather... and you guys.

Damn I do miss fall KCC cross racing.
❤️‘S to you all, and for those new to it - welcome!

And they sent a medium , which I’ve never fit in☹️

super awesome to hear, @cpulvidente !!

@PatrickGrehan
I got hooked on my *first CX race last season! thanks to all of yous enthusiasm and encouragement <3 ... was thinking a year ago yesterday was Town Hall cross, my second ever CX race....

I was in rural farmland MI the past 5 weeks, and did two gravel races while there. covid-19 protocols were impressive and highly detailed. Both races had total of maybe 200 for 3 separate fields. both races started in waves of small groups based on estimated average speed provided by each registrant. each group contained 25 riders, with start times and position in the starting grid emailed a couple of days before the race. our race packets were waiting for us at our position on the starting grid, and we were to show up to the line 15 min before our start. timing chips in our number plate. masks on until start.

placed 7th in my age category in both. god damn they were a blast, and a hard 55 and 60 miles of back country farm roads (plus a mile of cow pasture and woods in one of them, which felt a bit like *Nitany CX).

Raced the above on Grifo non-vulcanized clinchers and Loved them. so smooth, and they really dug in on the hills.

Here's a picture of a cow in a field:

I hated cross until I did my first race last year. I was really looking forward to this season.

Who knew running next to your bike would be so fun?
I'm still kinda training as if there was a cyclocross year. At the least the skills part of it. My mother in law leaves minutes away from Glacier and Overton in Long Island so I get to ride those trails a good amount. While being great, it's hard for me to do some specific training on it cause my heart rate goes through the roof no matter how easy I try to take it.

So I have also done some research for specific training and found some truly amazing parks for cyclocross.

 - Rocky Point: it has very undulating, kind of flat and sandy trails, with very little root. It connects with an extensive net of fire roads. This is the only trail I can stay in Zone 2 on.

- Southaven county park. Not a bike trail but I never had a problem over there. Truly amazing park. Trees to practice dismount, sand, corners...I think it's an amazing cyclocross park. Very few users beside cross-country runner. A loop can be done in 20 minutes, great for intervals.

- Cordwood Landing County Park. Nobody seems to know about it. I only saw a biker once. I discovered it while going fishing with my kids. You park uphills then walk down on a steep wide trails, loop on the beach and connect on a small trail if you want to. It makes for great high intensity intervals. Great beach and nice fishing if you are into it.

I'll still have to discover a few more trails. I haven't done Manorville hills in a while but I remember thinking it would a good one for cyclocross trail. It's just a bit out of the way for me.

I'm there almost every weekend. I'll ride there tomorrow around 12 if somebody is interested. Probably Rocky Point, but could do something else if I have company.

My favorite drill for mounts/dismounts; pick two trees about 30m apart. Start at tree 1 and sprint towards tree 2 - dismount, carry around the tree and attack towards tree 1... et cetera.

Did my second CX race today. Eagerly, I upgraded to the fours maybe a bit soon. The course was like a constant turn one way or another with some steep ups and downs. I didn't think this suited my strengths, just fitness no skills. I went out towards the back and worked my way up the race on lap uno. Second lap my chain dropped and rear derailleur jammed up. I sorted myself out and started to catch the people who passed me. Ended up finish 27/50 people which ain't to bad considering all things.

After this race I will totally say I am roadie. Cx is mad difficult and give props to y'all who rip it.
@cpulvidente it's mad fun too tho, right?!

anyone watch yesterday's Ethias CX on GCN RaceTV - last lap of the women's race - wowee!

I'm racing Cheshire CX in CT on Nov 1 with my girlfriend. It's gonna be her first CX race. Luckily they changed the venue, since the heckle hill venue is still damaged from the storm, from a MTB like course to a more CX style course suitable for beginners.

Not this coming weekend but the weekend after I might be talking my Amy to where we practiced CX last year at Cunningham Park and showing her the ropes of CX skills. Feel free to join if you'd like to practice CX skills... I'll know more next week...
A lady you can ride cx bikes with is a special woman indeed... !
Greetings,

As stated last week, I am planing on bringing my lady to Cunningham to the grassy field where we practiced last year (199th Street just north of Union Tpke) on Saturday around 9:30am. My lady will need to leave around 11:30ish to get back to her kids, but I can probably stay longer if there is interest.

I will have my collapsible practice barriers. I am also working on getting my hands on some of the LICX plastic course stakes (hopefully up to about 2 dozen) and some Caution/Cuidado tape from Home Depot to set up some practice turns/U-Turns.

Y'all welcome to join, obviously mask up as needed. I have a pump bottle of hand sanitizer in my van I can also have on hand.
