Cyclocross!

Emerging from the dead... or something.. As track season is winding down (two races to go 😭) I am starting to contemplate the CX season. My goal this season is to try to get closer to a Cat 3 upgrade (or maybe achieve it?) while racing back into cx shape. Due to uber busy life, I'm kinda late in trying to get running thrown back into my training, but it is what it is...

In the scope of trying to get better call ups through out the season, I would like to concentrate on one or two series (NJ or CT). However in looking at the current (as of this posting) King Kog spreadsheet for 2022, this is what I've loosely come up with:

Some of this might not be realistic in that I do have some weekend things planned but I think this starts to provide a decent template. Depending on my car situation, I should have room for one or two people...
@AndrewJohnson i'm focusing on the NJ series too, and any races where i'm not racing against elite level masters, with the goal of upgrading. my schedule will include some MA (Hydra) and PA races

just did a quick search and couldn't find the KK 2022 spreadsheet can you share it?
@AndrewJohnson
please link to the sheet.

I have not seen anything so far that suggests that Bubblecross is going to happen in 2022

On a related note, same for Nittany, crickets. Whirlybird has already announced that there will be no 2022 race.

The spreadsheet was a bit tricky to find... Again I am aware this is tentative and things might shift/change...  but I do need to start planning...
Thanks -- turns out is the same sheet document every year. ;)

Nittany is clearly marked as canceled for 2022. Again, very unsure about bubble.

Worth mention the Kissena CX Clinic kickstart is likely the weekend of 9/10 ~ 9/11

I do hope a couple of races pop up earlier than 9/24 9/25, else I might actually try to do the double Carpenter in PA, Newtown in CT.

The Holyoak race could be good if you consider Labor day into the equation.

Heading into Charm City with only one weekend of races seems crazy to me.

In an ideal world, Cedric and I would race the events below. We can take 2 or 3 passengers depending on how comfortably you like to travel.

  • Sep 11 Rocky Point 50 ( Mountain bike)
  • Sep 24 Carpenter Cross (PACX Series)
  • Oct 16 HPCX
  • Oct 23 CRCX
  • Oct 29 Croton Cross p/b Anti-Racist Cycling Club
  • Oct 30 BeastCross, NJ CX CUP
  • Nov 12-13 Northampton International Cyclocross
  • Nov 19 Rainey Park
  • Nov 26 Bishop Orchards.
@AndrewJohnson Do you know if the Long Island series will return? That'd be a fantastic way to wrap up the season.

Honestly I would not count on Greg pulling off the LICX. Bike racing is mostly dead on LI at this point. Last year he did not want to do it due to COVID numbers spiking. This year I reached out about something a month ago and never heard back from him. So... I know he's been working at the new Eastport location of Kreb Cycle. I have to go back to the Bellport Kreb Cycle in a week or so, and I'll ask Chris, the owner, if he's heard of anything... Furthermore, I am not USAC licensed official this year. I've been working the track because that's been run outside of USAC. I can't see myself paying $80+ bucks to get my license back + Safe Sport, etc, for a race that will not pay me. I also don't think I will have the time to volunteer with he racing I want to do. By mid December I need to wind down and start getting ready for a possible surgery in early January...
Joining the conversation late but since I'm now based in NJ, my cross goals for the season are (1) get back in shape to be competitive, (2) continue to grow my skills and (3) try and race the NJ Cross Cup as a series (along with other local NY, PA and CT races schedule permitting)
Is anybody going to register to Carpenter Cross? Still deciding whether I want do the Cat 4/5 or the masters 4/5.
My CX schedule through Octobor:

(tentative, most likely won't) HydraCX on labor day weekend Sep 3

Pinapple Crush Cross on Sep 11

Bubblecross on Sep 18

Carpenter Cross on Sep 24 ( @Remy Forgues i'll be racing in the masters 4/5 field)

either Charm City Oct 1-2 or Ghost CX Oct 2

maybe Crossasurus Awesome on Oct 9

HPCX on Oct 18

Cooper River Cross on Oct 23

Croton Cross on Oct 29-30

@Remy Forgues
@James Reeder
Why Carpenter instead of Newtown Cross?
We had good races at Newtown last year. It is put up by the CCPA which means it has pretty good Junior categories.

They're not on same day so could do both ;) Come do Carpenter with us @eloy

My reasons are are that I have a better chance of finishing in the points in PA races in the 4/5 40+ fields vs CT races, which is my main goal this season. Also I've never done Carpenter.

I just didn't see it. I could be tempted. It is also a closer ride.
I'm thinking about doing about 4 races this year , looking to limit travel,
@eloy @James Reeder
tell me your top 4 picks
A races are likely Nationals, Charm City, and NoHo, but those are relatively far.

I would suggest you check out maybe these:
Sept 18 Bubblecross: https://www.bikereg.com/57289
Oct 16 HPCX: https://www.bikereg.com/56947
Oct 29/30 Croton (this is a new two day race) https://www.bikereg.com/55832
Nov 19 Rainey Park (not yet in bikereg)

Plenty others to check: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UQI2CdoxUi4WbT4SCRGznI16LLNVe2mkRiMvLbfVh-k/edit#gid=1618549868

It's on. I just registered for Bubble Cross. Master 4/5. I have spots available in the car. I can't find the spreadsheet we used last year.
 I’ll take a spot @Remy Forgues
If there’s room, I’ll take another spot, Remy, thanks
I'm planning on going.. Just haven't regged yet for Masters 4/5. I do have room for one. Pickup preferably Brooklyn/Queens.

Are you guys planning on doing both days at croton?

It is about two months from now, but yeah, highly likely both days, most probably the Cat 3 race at 9:30 am (Masters are at almost 3:30pm)

All yours.

Same weekend as Beastcross that was my a race. I'm seriously conflicted.

Yup. I know Wawayanda! but supporting a two day race weekend less than an hour from the city... my hope is the conflict gets resolved by then. Please write to the promoters and let them know!
I was reminded to get off my butt and put together the Cyclocross ride sharing spreadsheet for this season. For those who are not familiar: I have listed as many races that I found that you could drive to and you go ahead and mark which ones you are going to including whether you need a ride or can offer a ride. This help facilitate ride sharing. Let me know if I have missed your favorite race (some races like Noho have not been posted on BikeReg yet).

Here is the link.

Drive to races together. It's fun

Great seeing a strong contingent ready for the CX season yesterday. Eloy ran a clinic with Greg, Remy, Dave, Matt, James, Jim, and Thomas. I "mostly" followed cardiologist advice and keep it chill. No starts or trail riding for me. Everyone else practiced barriers, remounts, shouldering and all the other good stuff that come with CX races.

Here are some pics:
