I won't be at GAP. Hitching a ride with Jules.
Sitting in grass triangle just inside park at GAP

3PM Bierkraft for post CX practice beers. Duh.
The picture looks too boystown for words. Wasn't Kayt showing?

She was there @wump

And thanks for Eric and Myles and everyone who made this clinic happen.  I showed up late but still learned a few things.
Kayt kept practicing barriers and cornering long after we all surrendered to selfie-mania...

that was a ton of fun and very helpful

thanks eric + myles and everyone that helped

now . . . let's drink!
I'll roll by for a beer. It's not like I'm trying to lose weight for Green Mountain Stage Race in less than a week.
When faced with the reality of what 'cross season will involve:image

But seriously, I'm bruised and exhausted, though strangely hooked on this. Thank you Myles and Eric for orchestrating an awesome clinic.

My "favorite" bruise that I can never avoid, is just below my belt line, on my backside, where I believe some part of my bike must be pummeling the shit out of me during running stretches. You only really notice it after the racing is done. Of course.
I am beat to hell. CX requires everything I got into cycling to avoid: Upper body strength. Running. Coordination.

But it was fun! And though I won't be buying another bike juuuust yet, I will get a set of skinnyish tires so I can actually ride with a front brake. Thanks Jules and Jim for the tires and coaches Ragot and Myles. Kissena is awesome.

Here are two more links with interviews from Adam Myerson. He along with Chris Horner, Jens Voigt and also Lance Armstrong (for very diff't reasons, obviously) are among the few people whose interviews I find interesting and worth the time. I'm sure there are others, but most pro cyclist interviews bore me to tears.

The following link talks about making a mental commitment to training for CX in adverse conditions. While in theory I 100% agree with him, and it almost makes we "want" to go out on a rainy day and train like he suggests. BUT, I, like many NYC apartment dwellers, don't take mucking up our bike lightly because it is so hard for us to clean up afterwords...although on hot summer days any number of fire hydrants are open full blast...

And this clip talks about his coaching company's cross clinic weekend. And it made me think of two things, first how awesome was it that we have two excellent crossers/mentors on our club to organize a free, and relatively convenient cross clinic, and second, how insane it is that I basically limit my crit clinic to one hour of instruction and drills, when it's clear I need more time. But that's an issue I'll have to tackle next year.

So, we had one CX clinic. Time for another.
The first races many will do are Nittany on the 7th and 8th.

I think that the 14th makes an ideal follow up CX clinic. Sure, some people are doing state track championships the following day, but the number will be few. I for one have been recruited to race once on the 15th, so I'll be CX and the tracking that weekend. Not perfect but hey, I don't mind suffering a bit to teach some more.

If interested, please post.
I will most likely be driving to Nittney very early SUNDAY am sept 8th. Might race the 2/3/4 might not. Will photograph. Might have space for a rider/co-payer. Contact me OFF THIS FORUM BY EITHER EMAIL OR PHONE. NO TEXTS< NO FORUM COMMENTS NO SMOKE SIGNALS. EMAIL OR PHONE.
I probably cannot get to PA by race #1. I will have to check the drive time, etc.

Always good to get registered for the big races, thanks for the heads-up Joshua. But Cat 4s remember, they do call-ups by crossresults.com rankings. So, you know do yourself a favor, and DON'T SUCK AT NITTANY.
WOw. Am I totally boned if I'm not racing Nittany?
No, they take the last year's best (five?) scores.
Tell the truth, I can take it. I'm boned, aren't I?

Yeah, actually, if you don't race, you just keep your same point value from last year.
Nittany uses last years Mac standings for non cat 4 races.

Attention:

to help prepare for Nittany, I will be riding in Cunningham Park on Saturday morning (I just have to check when I'm driving the family to the airport). My plan is to simulate a race by setting up a course there and "racing" for close to an hour. Probably in two 30 minute efforts.

If you are racing Nittany, keep on the lookout for when I'll be doing this and come down to get ready.

Sunday, I will go to Stillwell Woods or another MTB trail on Long Island and ride for a couple of hours.

I'm in for Saturday mr. ragot.
Looks like I can do 10:30. If that's too late, I can flip the days and am very free on Sunday.
I'm in for Saturday....10:30 is ok for me
I'm also in for the 2nd clinic on the 14th.
Bummed I missed out on the 1st one. I was boarding a dog who started hurling right as i was headed out the door to Cunningham Park. I had to stick around and monitor her to see if she needed to get to the vet. Ultimately she was ok.

I rode out there on Sunday with my GF and we rode the trails for a couple of hours. That was fun. It was my first time there. I played around with tire pressure and was surprised at how well a CX bike could handle most of the stuff you encounter out there.
I'll ride in Cunningham this weekend.
10:30 seems a little late, but as long as it's not too hot, I'm ok with that.
I would like to do both days.
I will drop my family off at LaGuardia at 9:45. Then to Cunningham. Unless family asks me to do more than drop off.
