So speaking of Canada, the u23 champion and Jr race champion happened to be the two teammates who attacked the field and rode away together (dropping me in the process) in a crit in chicago this summer. I guess that makes me feel better about getting dropped!

Damn, just had a chance to watch that. That must have been so brutal being chased for an hour.

He was pissed, for sure. I think he rolled the dice a little early on, got caught behind a bit in the early mess and had to play catch-up, but couldn't seal the deal.

Hello KCC members.  It's nearly everyone's favorite time of the year, November!  Time for Cyclocross. 

Once again Supercross is back at Anthony Wayne Recreation Area, across the street from Bear Mountain.
Once again Supercross is bringing top quality racing mere minutes from NYC. 

Ok.  so it's more like 30-40 minutes.  But that's really just extra time for road trip playlists.

Once again, we are seeking the help of the members of the cycling club to help out with set up, and day to day logistics at the event, Nov 22, 23rd.

Super 8 has rooms for 95$/night for our staff, which includes 6am breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, and a late check out (2pm) on Sunday.   Standard room w. two beds.


Holiday Inn in Orangeburg has rooms for 105/night for staff, 6am breakfast both race days, and 4pm checkout on Sunday.   Standard room w two beds.

Both are 20-30 minutes away, close to the mall/happy hour/dinner etc, tonnes of parking, etc.  These details haven't been made public yet, as there are definitely finite quantities available.

Hotlist No.9 2014

 

With regional UCI racing on hold, a race that sometimes features a dude with a Starsky & Hutch-style afro wearing a dress handing out podium medals captured the attention of more than a few (but less than a mess) of Kissena crossers this weekend. Marty Cross featured some pretty solid racing action up and down a hillside in New Jersey on a gorgeous fall weekend. And as the results rolled in, things are looking pretty steady at the top of our leader board, but down below there are changes upon changes. For one, many KCC regulars sat out for a second weekend in a row and you know what Hotlist thinks of that.

 

Before we get to this week’s rankings, Hotlist would be remiss if he did not mention the actual hottest thing that happened in cross this past week. How hot? Well, Hotlist is a rules follower, and this weekly is normally a Kissena thing, but….

 

Congratulations to Mike Garrigan on taking a wire-to-wire win at the Canadian National Championships! On a technical course that suited the explosive stylings of the hole-shot king, Garrigan proved that he’s got staying power too. Holding off hard-charging riders like 5-time defending champion Geoff Kabush and young-gun Michael Van dem Ham for 60 minutes is the stuff of legends.

 

But back to our regularly scheduled programming. How did the guys wearing KCC kit fare this week?

 

1.   Michael Perlberg. No racing, but strong results at HPCX keep Mike in the number one spot.

2.   Jim Feehan. See above.

3.   Todd McLoughlin. Lining up for 2 days of racing at Marty, McLoughlin comes through with 12th and 10th place finishes in small but competitive fields earning him two of his best crossresults points-totals for the season. His next big test will come at Fairhill in 2 weeks when MAC series racing returns.

4.   Nelson Martins. A mixed weekend of results for Nelson at Marty. The better result came on Day 1 with its more challenging holeshot and deeper field. He cranked out one of his season’s best finishes rolling across the line in the 18th spot and earning himself a season low (for him) 400 crossresults points.

5.   Marc Bertucco. Martins and Bertucco essentially swapped finishing spots on Saturday and Sunday in small but solid Cat 3 fields, with Martin’s edging out the newly upgraded Bertucco by 3 crossresults points over the course of two days.

6.   David Stokes. Continues to tear through his cross season with another fine result in the 50/55+ field. With the exception of Nittany, he’s been racing once per weekend, and clearly it’s a plan that works for him. Following up his 8th place at HPCX, he cranks out another 8th at Marty. Somewhat surprisingly, Marty, according to crossresults, drew a more competitive field than HPCX and earned Stokes 420 versus 486 points.

7.   Wes Tillman. With just a handful of races to call his own, the newcomer to cross racing proved that he’s pretty damn good anytime you throw him on some kind of a bike. 10th place on day 1 of Marty, makes him the best of KCC cat 4s and 5s this week.

8.   Adam Fabian. His hard work is beginning to pay off. With a staggered start, Adam makes up the gap and rides through a chunk of the Cat 4 40+ field enroute to 9th place finishes, 2 days in a row, in the cat 5 field. His best results of the season.

9.   JP Partland. Back in action for the second week in a row, the vet lined up against a high quality field (second only to the Pro 1/2/3s) and managed an 18th place finish. Good for 480 crossresults points and the number 9 spot on the Hotlist.

10. Harry Edmund Bolick. Quiet is a word Hotlist would never associate with the Honey Badger of KCC. And yet, many of you might not know that Harry has competed in more CX races than anyone on the team this year. At Marty, in the 40+ Cat 4 fields, he clocked in his 13th and 14th races of the year. More importantly, unlike the guys who might be flaming out, he’s still getting better. He earned 2 of his best results of the season with 10th and 6th place finishes.

 

Coming up this weekend, big-time UCI racing returns to the region with the 24th Anniversary edition of the Cycle-Smart International. It’s the country’s longest running UCI CX race weekend and will draw the best Elites not doing “Cincy3.” It also marks the return of 150-rider cat 4/5 field, beer tents, kids races and all that is great about CX racing.

Not to be outdone, two local favorites, re-named, re-branded at new locations, CXMeur (formerly Horseshoe Scramble) and Crossnado (formerly Bubblecross) are bringing the fun less than 40 miles from NYC. KCC pre-reg numbers are surprisingly light across the board (you guys know that it’s not even November, right?), but it looks like CXMeur is going to attract the single biggest group of KCC racers this weekend. MAC points up for grabs Sat. at Swashbuckler Cross in beautiful downtown Manheim Pa. It's far, but not about to surrender points voluntarily with only 4 MAC races left. Apparently Hotlist's Chicago sojourn left him with New England beer goggles on and he is unable to read the schedule.
