Asylum racers, I think there's an option to add your team name on the crossresults site. If you do, this would help Hotlist stalk you better.

Just go to your individual results page. There is a pencil icon in the "team name" column. If no team is listed, just click on the pencil, and it will let you edit. I just did it, easy as pie.

A permanent CX course in New England? Coolio. They are hosting "Scrub Zone Nationals" in mid-January

This race was brutal and humbling. I think I crashed more today then the rest of the season combined. I think about 10 people lined up to start, and I think I was last out of those who finished. Maybe 7th or 8th. I'm hurting today.

Jonathan Page's wife not only sets up his bikes, but often works the pit as well.  Seems to do fine for their marriage.

So today I raced at Sunken Meadow Park on Long Island, part of the Kreb Cycle Series. Say what you will about CX on Long Island,but this course was one of the toughest I raced all year. It was loaded with rooty, leaf-covered switchbacks....so many that I didn't bother to keep track. Add in some off-camber stuff, plus an uphill start/finish line, and you had the makings of a very challenging track, with plenty of climbing each lap. After showing up 20 minutes before the start (I went to the Aslyum out of force of habit, where the races usually are) a mad dash to reg gave me enough time for 1 warm-up lap. We had about 22 -25 at the start. I went of well, and was 5th into the hole shot. This is where all those years of fall mountain bike riding in the '90's paid off. I held position well, and saw a few others ride right off the course. The promoter used red course tape, which was twisted almost like rope, maybe to keep it from tearing in the wind, of which there was none. The flat light and fall leaves made some sections almost impossible to see, making difficult switchbacks even more hairy. I made a couple passes up the asphalt climb on lap 4. I figured if I could hold them off for one more lap, maybe I could snap the string next time up, which I was able to do. After the next go up the climb, I lapped two other riders, putting an obstacle between myself and the two I had pulled away from. Now I just tried to not screw up. Uphill finish, a quick look back, and I crossed in.....hmmm - 5th, maybe 4th. I'll find out for sure Monday, as I had to jet straight away. Either way, it was a super day, tough as nails, and a nice way to finish my season with 4 top ten finishes. Now I rest.....for 2 weeks.

And the results are in....Patrick 4th place on Sunday. 4th place for me from Saturday. Go Kissena, GO!

Unbelievable. For me, it seems like the host venue should be explained ever eventuality, every possibility, and if they are not willing to accept the risk, then they should not get host the event.

Unlimited risk is an absurd thing to take on a-priori; what if it was a radiation leak or a chemical spill or a forest fire?

We're not talking radiation leaks here, we're talking rain. And ripped up sod. This is a well-known risk of cross. There are multiple cases of high profile venue endangerment due to similar issues every year. Gloucester for one. Louisville was another. A few years back, we lost a couple of big national calendar races in New Jersey because of this issue.

I agree with you, that alternate venue, or some other kind of contingency plan should be required of all events of this caliber. Parks and Rec director looking at lots of mud and saying, holy shit, we're going to lose some trees here," then posting police at park entrances to turn away racers is not a plan.

I mean, I too think 200 year old trees are more important than a bike race, but they should have had a contingency plan in place. I mean, look at the weekly forecast...looks like rain? Maybe they should have come up with an alternative on Wednesday.
