Cyclocross!

Tomorrow is the first night of cx practice at Randall's Island, and my road bike is in the shop, so I'll be heading there after work even though I'm still focused on road (shhhh don't tell Tim!). Anyway, 7pm, and $5. I'll be leaving from Union Square around 6 if anyone wants to meet.
sounds great, are these every Wed for an hour, weather permitting?

they'll take longer than a hour, but yeas.

I have a summer Friday and my road bike is still in the shop, so I'm gonna go hit up Cunningham tomorrow. Thinking mid to late morning. Going to take the train out. Anyone else want to go shred some trails?

Cross fans, please answer the new poll. We're trying to gauge interest!

MAC Cross:

Update #7:
Attention Men's "B" Racers, we have a few changes on deck for the Men's 2/3/4 race.

First: Due to racer feedback, the “Men’s B race” will now be a 3/4 Men’s race. Cat 2 men will race with the Elite Men. This is intended to encourage racers to continue development and free up slots in the B race, which frequently sold out at the early season races.

Second: In the daily schedule, this race will follow the Elite Women and Men, who move into the earlier time slots.

PS: An updated tech guide will be posted to the website shortly.

Also, important reminder:

Nittany registration opens this Saturday August 1st at 7am.

Good updates Eloy, just "liked" the MAC FB page. Seems that they are much better about updating that page than their website. So much important info getting posted there. CX kids better "like" that page and keep up to date.

Attention Jim Feehan and others, here's a big change that puts them more in line with how NECX does it:

"Update #2 for the 2015 MAC Series: For almost all of the fields, call-ups will be awarded for the first 3 rows (24 starters) by MAC series standings and the rest will be done by Crossresults.com (except for the Men’s 4/5 and 9-14 men/women races which will be done by registration order as well as UCI events which have separate international guidelines). This was a frequent request in the larger fields, and will allow racers to start closer to others of similar ability."

And the Nittany winners here are Jeff and Adam, who registered in the first 25 minutes of opening and managed to get themselves on the 2nd row! You are on your way, make sure you knock out some nice early season results, lower those crossresults.com points and get yourself a good startline position for New England Holy Week! #NittanyMatters #Trustme.
I have my wife to thank. I was racing, but she was up and at the computer
to get me my start position.

Gold star to your wife!
Charm City registration opens tonight at 8PM

Tim from Training peaks is looking for a sense of his athletes' CX racing schedules for 2015.

"Posting new Road plans tomorrow.  Need to get some feedback about "the season", when is it over, when do most rest?"

Shoot him a message when you get a chance!

Woops, sorry gang, Craig pointed out that my CX brain totally misinterpreted Tim's request. He's actually talking road season end date!

I've got 2 seats for a ride down to Nittany on Saturday. First come, first served. I am racing at 12pm but I could be talked into an early start with the promise of breakfast pastries.  PM me or email at dhreiners@gmail.com to claim a seat.

Hey this is a good time for my first of many reminders this season, that you want to show up 2 hours before your race time for relaxed and total pre-race preparation! (shoot for 2 hours, and with inevitable delays, you are still there 90 minutes beforehand, which in my mind is the minimum)

Myerson's training plan.

" My favorite way to do this ride in the pre-season is by riding the ‘cross bike in the woods on mountain bike trails. There is no better way to work on your overall handling skills then spending a few hours ripping trails in the woods on skinny tires, and learning how to pick good lines at the last minute, moving athletically and going as fast as possible without flatting or crashing. It’s also a hell of a lot of fun."

Beaches, Burritos, AND Barriers!

I fixed that for you.

Gloucester registration opens this Tuesday, the 11th at noon. This race will likely sell out, quickly. And for good reason.

But, if you can't do the two biggest races of New England Holy Week, if you had to pick one, I'd go for Providence (more lodging options, closer, marginally more fun course, more family friendly venue/set-up.

Of course I think you should do both!

Whirlybird reg open.
is really really coming...

So to do cyclocross, does one need a specific cyclocross bike, or can I Frankenstein my roadie with the right wheel set and call it good?  I suppose the question is SHOULD I, since I want to ride the roadie all next year as well.

(I come from the land of mountain bikes and 4"+ travel both front and rear set of the frame, so seeing road style bikes playing in the mud is new to me, but def willing to give it a good go) ...

Or, if anyone has a lead on a good used cyclocross bike (size 53-55cm frame), ~$1000 - $1300, I'm certainly interested.
you can use a road bike if you can fit 32 wheels. and in fact, that was the way back in the days.

Cross has grown dramatically in the past few years. So now days, you'll have a better experience in a cross specific bike.

This is a decent time to buy as many are getting rid of previous seasons' gear, and gearing up for 2015.

This bike might be just a tad small for you, but might be worth a test ride if still available: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10100705432574509&set=gm.870282236358903&type=1

Your experience with MTB suggests that you'll probably love cyclocross.

In a nutshell: Cyclocross is everything you want cycling to be. Don't hesitate, the season will be here and over quick. Gear up now. You will absolutely love it.

@Jeffrey White is selling his CX bike, size M.
I have a 2012 Giant TCX 0 size M I've been racing like a sumbitch the last few years for sale. It has some cosmetic flaws, but it's mechanically excellent, freshly tuned up with new bartape and shift/brake cables. You could eat off the cassette and chain. Also, I added a sturdier Thomson alloy seatpost and a Specialized Toupe saddle. Stock components. Stock clincher wheels with Challenge Fango tires. Plenty of good, sharp tread left on those.

$900 as shown (MSRP $2,470 in 2011/12)
$1,200 with some older race tubulars but WITH POWERTAP G3 HUB!!!!

PM me.
