Another modeling opportunity for cyclists...

Man, check out all the local dudes who scored results in the last USA Crits race of the year...and the overall too. I wonder if JP saw the action in Vegas?

Coming to a cat 1/2/3 Prospect Park race near you!
Found this trolling for images to include in my lecture on Monday about the molecular basis of muscle contraction. It represents ATP with the oxygen atoms sprouting as it climbs . . .

There is an ENTIRE TUMBLR devoted to math & science tatoos...

Wow.
that tattoo is also interesting for the moth it depicts.  evolved to look like a hummingbird!  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macroglossum_stellatarum
David, that reminds me of this one - claimed to be the power equation for a cyclist.

I also have a vague memory of a sarcomere tattoo, but I can't find it right now.  It was pretty bro-tastic.

I got your power equation right here buddy...

So I've been reading a bit lately about the early years of the Tour and have come to learn more about Honore Barthelemy.

Hard as nails was Honore.  Read the below report of his 1920 Tour and ruminate on it next time you think about pulling out because something hurts a little.  It gives new meaning to HTFU.

"In 1920, says the Yellow Jersey Guide to the Tour de France, he crashed on the stage to Aix-en-Provence and only slowly got back on his bike, dazed and bloody. He could not bend his back and had to turn his handlebars upside down to be able to continue. As his dizziness lessened, he realised that what he thought was concussion was blindness. A flint had gone into an eye.

Despite that, he finished not only that day but the Tour, coming eighth despite half-blindness, a broken shoulder and a dislocated wrist. He was carried in triumph at the finish."
What does a race look like when you can remount your bars upside down on the road and still finish eighth?

also, @twoyacks, your worst nightmare comes true: soon your computer itself will be carbon! no longer will the forum offer shelter from the carbon storm! http://arstechnica.com/science/2013/09/processor-made-from-carbon-nanotubes-runs-multitasking-os/
I will never, ever get sick of that photo, like ever.
i commute on my bike now.  i should start dressing like that just to shame the other commuters i might pass.  oh wait nevermind: that means i'd arrive at work wearing those clothes.
Gadzooks!!! A moving violation..on my bicycle.
@Yacks - this was out in Long Island? First time I'm Reading of a ticket out there
They have Police out there? I thought it was just Five Guys Burgers and tanning salons.
yacks in that polka dot get up you are a moving violation
I am also hearing disconcerting rumors that some serious ass is getting kicked by our club up in Gloucester!!!! go team
Well it was a Town of Old Westubry officer...who appeared to be about 23 years old and quite full of himself, what with that big gun and badge and all (who's the failure now mother ?!).  Comically, as he was writing my ticket he was interrupted TWICE by cyclist pedaling through his "road block"....it was epic.
Dude hes likely making 120k a year

Not a Town of Old Westbury. Maybe Suffolk County PD.
westbury is nassau
yup...for that kind of $$$ I expect warning tape at my road blocks....had there been warning tape (which I'm told is required when there is a downed power line) I could not have passed through....whatever, I'm going to court and it's gonna be a hootenanny !
it's going to be a waste of everybody's time. but good luck and be ready with respectful cross examination.
