It was ems this past week but Hudson and setana contacted me in the past. I usually don't ask what their willing to offer (because I don't race to get free teas or discounts on chamois cream) but I doubt they could beat the deals we get

Crca is one of the main reasons I didn't give these teams a second thought. I think all the non crca teams should hold their own closed races so crca realizes it's not nice to exclude people. (:

I think a lot of these smaller teams have a problem with the size of kissena, so they want to split us up?

That would be a lot of fun! I'm not sure what the bylaws say about having an alternate jersey, but I'd be into it. I know there are currently some strict rules on how much we can vary the jersey. But I'm guessing if there is enough desire for something like this, it can happen. William, as an ex-prez, you probably have a much better idea than I. Because Henoch every year would try a different manufacturer or ask for something different in the design, I've got a fair amount of experience on the do's and don'ts of kit design. Trial and error is a great teacher.

I'd also like to throw another idea out there: Kissena brand name stickers for bicycle and/or helmet. Not only is it pro as shit, but it will help us remember each others names. For old guys like myself, that's important.

On a serious note, it seems like people are enjoying staying on Kissena, and we're getting folks from other teams interested in what we've got.

We all know the obvious benefits of Kissena membership, but I think if we remind others that there are so many benefits to being Kissena. It is not just one of the classic kits in the NYC scene, no it may not be the latest in asymmetry like BH, or full of self referential irony like Adler, or even covered with every sponsor they could find like L.Raphael – Leopard Cycles p/b Dave Jordan Coaching featuring the Bear Country Jamboree on Ice, but the Kissena kit it is still pretty awesome.

We also have quality coaching and mentors, lots of training opportunities, discounts on races, discounts on quality gear from our sponsors (by the way if you need CX tires get on that Challenge order ASAP since we have to order by Monday!), a deep well of teammates to share rides for out of town races, and finally some of the finest team racing I've ever seen in NYC.

The thing I really like about the jersey design is that it is constant. Someone can still rock the old Kissena Verazano Bike shop jersey and nobody would know any different. We change the jersey, and suddenly guys have hundreds of dollars worth of un-raceable clothing. That would be a bitter pill to swallow for someone who laid down lots of money for some winter gear, some kits, etc. just this year. I know that would put a lot of folks in the club in an awkward spot.

One thing I would get behind is making a custom wool "old school" kissena jersey to match the one Al is modeling above. Not for racing, just for rolling around pro-as shit post race or to the bar to enjoy a post race beer. Or riding in. Whatever.

I second that - if we're going retro - lets go Full Retro. Wool jersey.

I kind of like the idea of Kissena as a lifestyle brand. Like Rapha, but less "I paid $60 for this jersey, and $120 for the marketing campaign to convince me that it is ok I spent $180 for a $60 jersey if it has an epic story attached to it" kinda vibe. Maybe it could have an old school angle like Kissena Cycling Club. Brooklyn/Queens Est. 1963.

I get the, "oh shit I've got all this Kissena gear" thing, it's a fair point. But I'd argue, most of the stuff that lasts a long time is training/winter gear, and personally I'd be cool rolling around in it matter what a new race kit looked like.

I'm also keen to rework the identity of the kit/brand so that it reflects our DNA a little better, and raises the level of sophistication so it's more of a head turner (in a good way).

If we are bound by rules to not change it, we could migrate it over a couple of seasons.

all those who are interested in this project should get together for a beer.

i think we should do this incrementally - get a dope vintage design for a wool jersey going, and then possibly reconsider an update for the "Racing" jersey

this would be a very interesting design challenge - how to make the "old" and "new" designs look continuous enough to maintain a cohesive look regardless of who's wearing which at the starting line, but also updating it to "be more relevant"/"reflect our club DNA" better

I'm in. At a minimum I'll test the jersey for it's beer-absorption properties.

I have absolutely no expertise to offer in this endeavor, but it sounds like fun. If we came up with a cool, special-edition Kissena kit design, I'd buy some.

What is our club DNA?

Our club is NYC. We accepted non-whites as the reason we were created. We sustain NYC racing opportunities. We promote we officiate we help govern the sport (2 of ntsbra's directors are in kissena, one from crca) we are the local bedrock of nyc cycling. We don't exclude by making clothing or people irrelevant. We don't change so thatthere is meaning to the club. So what is our DNA? Wait, I forgot, we don't even self promote enough to go for club of the year.

So if someone joins for $50 today and rejoins 5 years from now, they should be able to come back to the fold easily and fit right in.

As to alternate Jerseys, they create a problem for cat 2's and the people who can't afford the alternate our now the outcasts.

Blue white and orange is nyc and it is our DNA.

There's a balance in here somewhere. Our jersey design has changed in the past and it will change in the future. Having some "alternate kit" like the pros is one way, I think, that a step in that evolution can occur.

I would like to opine that while we must respect the diverse economic situations of our membership (that is in our "DNA"), we can't put too much emphasis on guys who quit the club years in the past. In all likelihood, only a tiny fraction is coming back.

I think that a good design - same color scheme, same themes - would make the old & new *obviously* the same team. And if the truth be told, classic is always cooler. The guys with the older kits get more respect even when their kit is just more faded... doubly so if it's not for sale anymore.

To be honest I'm more excited about the vintage jersey though.

That and never, EVER seeing those Monkey Balls again...
