Oh wait I forgot. Yes you can

Myles bro, I know a guy.
Ok this is long and I fast forwarded to the neat parts which seem to start just before 5 min mark.  One of my hometown nedneck brethren flies his drone through the big fireworks display.  Not as cool as the one taken down by Kings fans after the cup win.

Did Mike Garrigan race Canadian Nats? I briefly scanned some results but didn't notice his name.

I think he's in Europe (Slovenia?) coaching all summer.
Sun ride recap/oh boy strava.

So this is going in this thread as opposed to a Sat-sun group ride thread since its essentially a sat-sun solo ride recap.

After a friendly dinner at ragot's house where far too much wine was consumed I elected to not hit the triangle ride with Whitey and Eric since there was a 745 departure involved in that.  Apparently whitey decided likewise since I passed him on the way out.

My 10-am departure was met with clouds, so it became a 1030 departure after a weather check.  Which became closer to an 11am departure after I had to stop at the street festival, win two rounds of Petanque (thanks apostolos) in my kit, then head over to the BB.

The first sign of disaster was the lack of any water bottles in the apartment.  Fudge.  So a quick stop at the bodega to purchase 3 sport top dollar waters and were good to go.  Smell that?  Yup.  Disaster brewing.

Roll out over the bridge.  Remark to myself how much more pedestrian traffic there is at this hour.  This is why people leave early.  Hmmmm.  Get to the west side, up the path.  Watch colorfully dressed jamaican dudes on fixie courier bikes play slalom with elderly pedestrians.   Got a rear tubular flat and fized it.  Get somewhat lost under the GWB looking for the right path, end up in the middle of a homeless dude cage fight.  Sweet.

Get over the BB.  Seem to have passed Whitey and Yang and maybe owens on the way out on the path which was nice to see. Decide after I get to the BB, that river road is a likely target since at 2 hrs plus this is already looking like my longest ride of the year.

Notice that the sidewalk to River road has some sort of wacky ass construction thing on it. Nets and poles and stuff. Decide Hmmmm.  Better take this slow, since I haven't been here in like a year, and recall the turn from the sidewalk to the road is sort of sketchy.

Slow down, about to make the turn, and from behind I hear some guy scream at me "outta da way, now!" hip checks me to hit the turn first, shouts something about "starting his segment, and starts to ride off down river road.  He actually HIT me... wtf.

this is where is gets potentially interesting.

Tall dude, I'd define him as ... husky, decked out in a garmin kit with a specialized carbon plastic something or another.  I'm just sort of thinking "what a fuc$ing tool".  well let's be honest.  I wasn't thinking that, I was saying that.

Anyway, 12 seconds later the road starts going up gradually, and I cruise right by the guy and he gives me this "wtf ahole I need to PR" look.  I'm just sort of shaking my head going wow... wth is wrong with people.  Im also thinking, "boy, i'm pretty tired, this biking thing is sort of hard", and that a few repeats up alpine will fix everything that ails me.

I continue my leisurely sunday ride, and get to the bottom of the apline climb.  Chuck one of my dollar water bottles in the can, re adjust the other one, and turn around and go up the hill for the first time.

First time up, cruise through the first turn, remark to myself "hey whats that burning taste... Oh yeah, lamb thats me throwing up in my own mouth.  Cool".  And continue on my merry way.  Ugh

Second time up, pretty much the same deal, but I have some idea of when my pathetically pale legs will give out so I can meter my effort a bit.

Third time up, I figure if I'm still able to use the big ring it's not a loss on the day.  Ugh.

Fourth time, decide that I'm just going to cruise it, nice and easy spin, and head back to base.
As I'm coming down the last part of the climb to the boat station, who is there, but some chunky dude in a garmin out fit on a specialized. Hmmm.

He's heading up for his first trip, I'm pretty beat. I go to the bottom, switch into like a 39x17 or so, and proceed up the hill just sort of chilling out.  Garmin dude is about 2/3rds the way up the first part of the climb when I start.  I pass a few other cyclo tourists that I know and chat a bit,  and proceed up the climb in no big hurry.

Garmin dude is clearly in distress, and getting much closer to me.  About 2/3rds the way up the entire climb where it steepens a little bit he's now about 10yrds in front of me and he screams "AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH" for no apparent reason, his garmin computer beeps a bit, and he keeps on thrashing along.  I swear I saw a roman candle go off out his ear.... boom.

I continue to ride up beside him and say "Hey, good afternoon.  Wow you know it's funny, some of these guys actually train to ride this slow.  Enjoy your sunday ride! " and continue up the climb to 9w.  Never saw him again.

Cruising home along 9w I noticed that it was significantly less populated than usual.  Neat. Cruising home through the city same deal.  Brief stop at strictly to ease the pain in my feet, brief break, then off back to home. City basically vacant.  Awesome.  BB however..... F T S.

Groups of people walking in the bike lane. I understand that the bulk of them were dumb european tourists, but fuc$.  There is a huge picture of a BIKE and you are walking on it.  High five to the dumb asses that were taking romantic dual-selfies with their back to me on the descent of the BB, they were the ones i screamed "OHMYGODIMGOINGTOCRASHINTOYOUBECAUSEYOUAREINTHEBIKELANE" loudly at.

Ultra high five to the woman I photobombed on the way up who was taking a picture of the scenery and I stuck my tongue out as she did.  Hey why not.

Random thoughts?

I think that Strava is the devil.
I think I sweated out 3 bottles of wine in about 30 minutes.
I think I should have had more than 3 $waters for such a trip
I think that tourists on the bridge should be shot.  I may pull a pro-tour trick and start smacking cell phones out of their hands, but I'll have to borrow a mengoni kit from Al or something first.
I think the world cup final was awesome, and the party around the corner epic.
I think I enjoy riding my bike, and need to do it more.

Hopefully I'll see you guys out there soon.
@Myles splendid report.  In one single post you have proven:

Strava is indeed the work of Beelzebub
Myles actually owns a bike
Myles can work the #forum (although might claim it too is the Devil)
Myles actually RIDES a bike
Myles likes riding his bike and
Myles can decimate all his previous posts with ONE.SINGLE.RIDE.REPORT.

I think the moral of the story is that Ragot is the devil's handmaiden.
No objection from me.

Anyone follow Richard Sachs on Twitter and/or Facebook? And can explain to me why everything he says or posts has "ATMO" in it?
Seriously? ??? Come on man I thought you were edumacated. Well?
On Jul 16, 2014 8:27 AM, "Marc Bertucco" <

I mean I know that ATMO means "according to my opinion." I googled that (see Jules, I do use the google), but in my head, when I read "according to my opinion" after the title of his latest blog post or something, it just doesn't track. Like, if he has a blog post about something, of course it's "according to his opinion." It's a blog. I guess what I'm thinking is that his over-use of ATMO seems like...I don't know. I just don't get it. FWIW. ATMO. LOL.

Okay, not ready to let this go. Someone please "phonetically" read/explain this post title from FB:

"Richard Sachs Cyclocross Team pic of the day atmo."
QOTD " you know there used to be a time on this club when the young punks
used to say hi to the old guys they rode by in the park. Oh look its the
hill."

ATMO is generally moronic, and nearly always self-evident. Avoid.

Dude, I SWEAR I said hi! I even did the pinky + ring finger off the hoods wave!

Eric did the same thing to me today too... but he rode up in a t-shirt, sandals, and on a flat-bar single speed.

Whoops!
Its ok....it's ok....I know you young kids are all up in your "threshold
zones" and "watts per kilograms" and "real time wind resistance
measurement" and whatever the fuck this "Strava" thing is.

Why, when I was your age all we used to train with was a baguette that our
coaches would beat us with while we rode to school in the snow uphill both
ways.

Its ok...it's ok....Remember old guys know park rides are for two things.

-riding slow

-checking out hot babes.

Or hot dudes if thats your preference.
