I wasn't sure what thread this wholesome bit of community news would fit in, but since this appears to be the most random thread on the forum (where the "flotsam" comes in):
For all yous Kissenas who have kids who have outgrown their bikes, or if you have a bike that's been outgrown which you'd like to donate, come on down to the Bike Swap at Gowanus Grind tomorrow, happening at Douglass Greene Park (3rd Avenue between Douglass and DeGraw).
Bike swap! Helmet giveaway! Kids learning how to ride bikes! Climbing wall! (Probably terrible) live music!
I'll be at the bike swap check-in, which is on the north side of the park, from 11 am to 1 pm, forfeiting a Kissena group ride for the next generation of bike nerds.

Here's a question for all you experts in the dark arts of the internet and computers and things.
You know those spam emails we get from familiar names, our friends, but click on the message and it opens a message that is clearly fakey/virusy and trying to get us to open a link? Where do they come from? Because they don't have the person's correct email address? Nothing even close even. And yet they are ostensibly from one person to another who said person knows.

Edit: not a joke, it just takes forever to load the first accurate model of the universe from big bang to now.

Either way it's a technical question that is going to require you to up your Google-ing game. Suffice it to say that there is no "new" treachery online that doesn't exist in the real world; just new widgets through which to perpetrate old scams.
(Frequently walking my dog along Riverside Drive in the morning, I can say one thing for sure about "Freds" and triathletes: They sure do get up a lot earlier than most of us "real" bike racers.)
another part to remember is that sending spam is cheap. Spammers don't have to know your name or your friend's name...they just need to put in "Mike" or "Marc" and eventually someone will be a Marc and know a Mike and vice versa. There are lots of them.Marc Bertucco said:
