I just took a quick look at his results.

He has race finishes on Road-Results.com til July 15, 2023, a Castelli Cup race, where he finished 16th.

Either he was racing strong through sickness, and/or colon cancer came fast.  

My understanding was it (at least the major symptoms) came on fast. There was a gofundme set up for him in Sept or Oct and he was going through chemo about a month ago. It's a wake up call to get checked out regularly. I've seen first hand how quickly cancer can destroy a seemingly healthy person within a matter of months.

Definitely a very sad encouragement to get your colonoscopies.

I had to go to court today.  So, down to 111 Centre Street.  Everyone needs to pass through security, so did that.  After forgetting that I was wearing a belt and that I hadn't taken off my watch, they let me through.  

But, before I can move on, they needed to ask me a few questions about the content of my bag.  One thing they were concerned about was the Crank Brothers multi-tool.  So I showed it to them.  All good.  The second thing was my Superflash 65 Blinky Light (65 lumens).  I take it out of the bag, explaining what its for.  

the security guy looks at it, turns it on, and tenses up, turning his head, because I guess he wasn't expecting it and it momentarily blinded him.  He tells me they're going to have to hold on to it while I'm in the building because it's a security threat--I can use it to blind a cop.  He takes it to the sergeant behind the desk who holds on to such things. The sergeant takes it from his underling, turns it on, and tenses up, turning his head, because I guess he wasn't expecting it and it momentarily blinded him. 

I pack my bag, come get the receipt.  I tell the sergeant 'I told you it was a blinky light.  I guess you've proven it works.  He says, 'yeah, its bright, but it doesn't mean people will see it.'

Oh the irony! 

I just took a survey that the NYC DoT has posted.  It's probably worth taking.

I was on my bike in Central Park.  I felt nothing.

I was on a train in Philly so I couldn’t distinguish between the earthquake and the state of US infrastructure

I just signed up my son and I for the Five Boro Bike Tour.  I added Kissena Cycling Club as a club.  Not sure if we're going to go down to the start or not, as the ride passes about two blocks from our place.

But, if you decide or have decided to do it, add yourself to the Kissena club there.   

A physiologist friend (we did the Ras together) is recruiting participants for a study that involves testing yourself on Zwift and applying topical cremes. 

I'm curious about it, as I'm a creme skeptic, but I can't do it because I don't Zwift and don't have the connections to do it right.

THE HOTNESS

Crash in Central Park this am at the top of the park, a guy went clean into the barriers.

I don't know what it is about some morning groups here but they like to come past you pretty fast and less than 6" from you, then cut in front, it's annoying, especially when the whole road width is empty. Anyway, this morning a guy cut in front super close on the inside (pretty much in the joggers lane, at the top of the park just before the construction area), swung out to take the corner and there was a construction vehicle rolling round, he broke, bike swerved and he went into the red/white barriers doing about 15-20mph. He was ok.

If you are riding up there be careful, there's been more construction work going on over the last couple of weeks with vehicles moving down that hill and they have typically not been flagging (e.g. worker 50 yards behind waving a red flag).

This one's pretty far afield from cycling, but I thought I'd share. I successfully passed the checkride for my Flight Instructor's certificate today - so if anyone is interested in learning how to fly you have an inside lane

There's even a moment in the video where they are clearly driving north on 9W down the last turn before the stateline, the same turn we have set up for a sprint a million times.

I was in high school up in Rockland back then and was literally driving on the same road with friends in an old hand me down jalopy while listening to this song and talking about the music video and had zero idea. Would have blown my mind.
