Winter Computrainer Rides

I've been feeling a bit ill since yesterday's computrainer session.  Last time I sit next to Vlad.

Mike rode well, turns out falling on arse opens his legs up.

I just looked at the numbers for those who like them - for the 1:29 of my riding until I had to go:

Avg - 273w

xPower - 289w

Normalized Power - 294

the whole ride: 1:40 mins

avg - 259w

xpower - 272

the last 11 minutes Jeff W is speaking of were avg 319 watts

by far the best ride of the year. I've been struggling to break to do ~300 watt intervals on the trainer at home. I think the arctic temperatures in that basement help a lot.

Nice work kiddo!

My 6 p.m. slot is open for tonight. I will be riding some nice, warm desert miles here in Phoenix.

Be advised that if you take my spot, you will owe me a beer.
I am guessing there are spots open for 6pm, aiming to be there.
With this 103 degree fever that I'm just getting over, my 6pm slot is up for grabs tonight as well.
Yep

I see Johnny Wrongway hasn't lost a beat...
neil, way to hit 81 mph on the computrainer.
Props to the Vladinator, just missed on the double slam (defeated by Dale), and to Aaron (AKA Ragot junior) for chasing back and out kicking me at the end (all those miles are paying off). Ragot's 420W spurts were pretty relentless, 322 average for the first ten. Meredith hung strong on her fourth ever Computrainer.
@Jules. Only 30 Watts down from last year :B
Photo below shows the last mile slugfest of second hour.

Ahem, 333 for first 10min...

@Jessica - I have no idea how that music video relates, but I love that song. Solid New Wave.
Next stop, 1980's.  Love it.
Yesterday's session below. We had to split it into 2 after the first course got to be too hard- 18% climbs in some sections. It got to be a little ridiculous.

Btw ragot and perlberg killed it on the second course. I stand by my story I was sitting up to find a clif bar when the break went.

Now, watch Ragot refuse to race Grant's Tomb because he's "not in shape..."

You need to ride with JP more, the only dude who goes 50-watts faster when he sits up to eat.

No Marc,

If I am going to a race, I have a plan for that race - fitness or winning. I don't think I'll gain either from Grant's. In terms of fitness, I could double up and gain some fitness, but it's crit fitness. Additionally, while it appears I can ride a trainer well, I don't think I'm doing the specific training for success at Grant's. Further, Grant's conflicts with my buildup for races I care about. I'll be at Branchbrook, doubling up on my races the day of Grant's.

My first Crit will be Rahway. Which will come after my race build up commences and is in full swing. March will see the shorter 5 min efforts begin. April will have the 3,2,1 min efforts show up in my training. So, Rahway will at least let me be on the way towards racing fitness and I can have a legitimate shot at winning. I like to use the race as a marker of my fitness to let me know if I'm on the right track.

Come May, I'll be in race shape as I define it - properly ready to go with a base of fitness that is being used to sharpen my racing fitness and abilities. So, to that end, Orchard Beach becomes the first test of my training. The payoff is the Memorial Day weekend.

I've found that given my limited training time and recovery abilities, I can bring my fitness level up to that of the best in NYC, but I can't maintain it there for as long. By the middle of June, I am done with my peak / plateau. I will still race, but expect little and my racing turns to fitness and helping teammates achieve thier goals. Personal ambition pretty much is gone, except if the opportunity presents itself.

If Grant's was in the summer, I'd happily race it - either as a race in my peak window, or as part of my more careless summer racing. As it sits in the calendar now, I will not enter it unless compelled to do so. I just don't see the compelling reason to spend as much time getting to and from the race as I will spend for Branchbrook, but getting less out of the race.

.
Eric,
There's a third reason to race.  You've got teammate(s) who can do well.  GT typically plays out as a team race--unless you happen to be a pro.

Will you gain fitness?  Surely you will.  Could you get more out of it than Branchbrook?  Definitely.  And when you factor in gas and tolls it will be cheaper, too.  Will you help a teammate?  Surely you could.

Nobody asked yet. Further, the time for asking from teammates should be sufficient to allow teammates to prepare).

Wow. Just wow.
I agree with Eric, nobody is talking about GT. Also, I have no interest in it this year (not that my participation would have helped anyone).
I for one love it when the three elder (two ponytailed) statesmen Feud on the forum.

YANG!  Fetch me my popcorn and an onion for my belt - this should be good...

This is what my plan for that day looks like:

9AM Branchbook - Lead Eric out FOR THE WIN in the P123 race

Drive to Grant's Tomb

11AM - Lead Marc out FOR THE WIN in the 2/3 race

2:45 PM - JP - I'm sorry, I'm going to be a little tired by this race. So I'm going to attack, establish the break, you bridge up, sit in, AND THEN ATTACK FOR THE SOLO WIN.

Everybody got it? Great!

PS - Obviously we're all getting a little tense here so let's all just look at this and relax:
