River road to be closed to for 1.5 months starting this Monday. Potential for Sunday re-openings. Details are below - in theory you can enter and exit at Alpine (repeats ? ) - but you can't enter or exit in Englewood or Fort Lee.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has scheduled a major project to install new drainage systems for the George Washington Bridge anchorage. This work is scheduled to begin Monday, December 15, 2014, and to continue through the end of January 2016.* From Monday – Saturday during this time, Henry Hudson Drive will be CLOSED TO ALL USE from the Edgewater park entrance to Ross Dock Circle. Violators may be subject to prosecution.
- For the duration of this project, automobile access to Englewood Picnic Area & Boat Basin and to Ross Dock Picnic Area will be from the Englewood Cliffs park entrance only. (Note that Henry Hudson Drive is closed to automobiles for the winter from Alpine south to Englewood Cliffs.)
- On Sundays only, if conditions permit, the closed section of the Drive will be reopened to pedestrians and cyclists only.
- Except on Sundays, cyclists who are riding their bicycles must enter and exit Henry Hudson Drive via the Alpine park entrance only. (Cyclists are not permitted to use the Englewood Cliffs park entrance, unless they walk bicycles on the sidewalk along Dyckman Hill Road between the park entrance and Henry Hudson Drive. Violators are subject to prosecution.)

Queensboro bridge is ridable. I'd stay away from slicks and road tires though.

Two rides today. The first was to take my son to school. The roads were sufficiently messy I took my fendered up commuter, slick-tired MTB out for the pleasure ride. Turns out, Central Park is clear of ice and nearly 100% dry. Riverside drive isn't bad. I even rode onto the GWB, moments after it was reopened. There's still lots of snow on it between the cables, but with the sun, the icy spots on the cleared sections are pretty much melted.
All is probably out the window tomorrow.

Another two ride day.
The streets were pretty messy, but passable.
Central Park was pretty clear overall. The one place you really had to be careful was the descent to Harlem Meer and a bit beyond.

GWB bike path closed all day today.
Did several laps in Central Park. Other than the fact my legs looked like they had visited a pretzel factory, the road was clear.

What totally annoys me about this is: "of course" there is "an icy condition." Instead of shoveling the actual complete path, they plow a strip down the middle and so when the sun shines, the snow banks on the side of the path melt, have nowhere to go because being blocked by opposite side snow bank then all that melt freezes overnight. Of course I'm just more annoyed by winter in the city. (It's just a much more pleasant season elsewhere)JoshuaC said:as of 3:39 am

Found this out the hard way this am--silly me for not checking this thread before leaving the house. Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge are bad. Took a nice spill on the latter on the ride out; icy bastard bridge.

P.S. They are usually accurate. Like a couple of weeks ago, the sun was shining and the last alert as from essentially two days previous, saying the bridge was closed. And I thought, well, look at this sky, how can it STILL be closed??? It was still closed.

to anyone who's ridden today: should I take the cross bike if I'm going West Side bike path to Brooklyn Bridge? roads look fine out of my window but sounds like there's still some badness?
