Helmet deal for Kissena members:

With all of your input on the forum, the board has determined to choose the POC Octal AVIP and Octal Aero AVIP in “Zink Orange” as the “official” helmet of the club for 2015. What does this mean for you? We will organize 2 group buys during the course of the year for Kissena members to purchase a helmet. The helmets will also be available through Redbeard at any time during the year, though at a slight upcharge from the prices below. We expect that we’ll stay with POC as the official helmet for next year as well. Note, this deal is for Kissena members’ own use only. Do not purchase a helmet for someone else or you’ll get 50 lashes with unwashed gran fondo bibs.

In addition, the club will offer to subsidize 50% of the purchase price of one POC Octal or one POC Octal Aero helmet in the “Zink Orange” per year for each upper-category rider, as defined below. The club may give members a helmet for rider retention or as mentor comp, with approval of the board of the club.

Pricing for the helmets during the group buys are:

POC Octal AVIP – $135

POC Octal Aero AVIP - $150

The spring group buy is open now and we will close it Monday, April 6. Please place your order by noting your size and model desired on the following Google sheet:

sizes are as follows:

Zinc Orange S = 50-56cm

Zinc Orange M = 54-60cm

Zinc Orange L = 58-62cm

Definition of upper-category riders:

- Men and women Cat 3 and above on the road

- Men and women Cat 1 and above in mountain biking (this is the lowest category that requires points)

- Men and women Cat 3 and above on the track

- Men and women Cat 3 and above in cyclocross

@Chi If you can't try one on, simply measure around your head where your hat would fit comfortably to find your size. Err towards smaller unless you wear a cap underneath. These helmets fit better than most. S 50-56cm, M 54-60cm, L 58-62cm.

Redbeard won't have them in before the 4/6 date. Ilya will likely have some extras in other sizes so you can exchange it for the correct size when you pick it up. John's advice is also good for you to use to determine size.

good to know for those of us with 59cm heads. that's in-between sizes. (should I leave room to grow? or does my head shrink with age?)

Another testament to his disckishness...the second Giro stopped paying him...cause dopping...he stopped wearing their helmets. In truth, if he wanted to hurt his old sponsors (see nike, trek, & oakley) he should continue to use their products cause then nobody would want to buy them.

My comment about their cranksets - was not a reference to issues some EQS riders seem to be having. I had an FSA K-Force crankset, back when MegaExo and outboard bearings were new. The NDS crank kept falling off.
FSA acknowledged it and advised using loctite to keep the crank on the axle. That is not good engineering.

Ilya will let me know when the POC helmets will arrive. He is also a new dealer and there is a process to setting that up too. Should be able to let everyone know timing later this week.
