The shop told me the bb wasn't seated properly and I cooked the bb. necessitating a new one...also i was told the bb would need a shim to seat properly. The same shop installed the bb and cranks about 6 weeks ago...I did swap out the non drive side arm for the Stages arm...could I have killed my almost new bb ? Also...the shim, big deal to my q factor or just ride the damn thing?

yup...it is back in that shop too...the front shifting is completely wanky and the shop claims they have to put a shim on the drive side too now. Just as well on that...I asked Jonathan Blyer and he is worried about asymmetry. ..The Spooky BB is like 66 mm wide...After this fiasco, I will likely bring it to a shop that knows what the hell they are doing. My BB crank juncture is not something I take lightly. I will likely get a Chris King BB...I will sleep better at night.
Now the good news....I slipped in a quick training session between bike shop visits...apparently having your cranks firmly attached to your bike increases your power measurement. 287 for 20 I should skip Branchbrook Sat. I may have eaten some "contaminated corn beef" yesterday and don't want to trip a control.

What shop is this ? I want to make sure I never set foot in the place.
A threaded BB does not require a shim. They should just re-face the BB shell.
Even in the worst case scenario of a shell with totally f--ked threads - a good store can still sort the problem perfectly by re-threading the BB to Italian threads.
Of all this supposes that they have invested in the tools and actually have a clue.

I have zero confidence in these guys...zero. When the bike is returned, I buy a Chris King from a real shop & let them install it = game-set-match

Looky what Cateye America did for me after I informed them my Stealth 50 had my rides starting in Krygyzstan ..mind you I just received a replacement computer on Sat. from them

Calling anybody with SRAM bb experience...what the hell is going on with mine. 2 new ones installed in a 6 week period and they keep showing play when I push the cranks back and forth horizontally

I had a GT aluminum frame once...the head-tube got stretched out to the point that I couldn't get the headset to be snug and secure.

threaded...the washers that come with are 2.5 mm would like to get something thinner to maintain q-factor for the gimpy knees

I can't speak to the measurement aspects of a BB, things being off, cracked, etc, but do know that after installing my Ultegra and my Sram Red Cranks, it takes 3-5 times/ rides of re-tightening to get them fully seated.
With my Ultegra crank, each year I pull it to clean and regrease, and bring an allen wrench to snug down the bolts on the non-drive side crank arm. It's a pain, getting off the bike, tightening both sides, riding, tightening. My Sram Red is coming off this week, and I anticipate having to do the same during a ride or two or three.
You pounded the hell out of your crank this past weekend (Nice job!), and this probably made it super hot as well, so not at all surprised it needs to be tightened, if that's all it is. . .

Thanks Bruce. Bringing it to the shop now....will bring my spare rival arm as well and have my mechanic install it just to check if is the Stages crank arm that is not playing nice with my rival cranks

Possibility, if it was loose, and ridden on hard, it may have wallowed out the tapers so it'll never snug up.
