Sorry Jules some of us weren't gifted with massive OG Battenkill race winning ftp and VO2Max numbers and have to take every advantage we can get including stupid fragile race tires that roll a few watts faster and cost more than motorcycle tires. Also once upon a time I commuted on Gatorskins and caught flats so at the recommendation of bikeforums c.2009 I switched to Schwalbe Marathons which are the GOAT of feeling like you're riding on wooden wagon wheels but also never flatting ever in the history of its production line (I've flatted on Marathons on the Brompton once 17 years ago but that doesn't count because tiny wheels).
Lol I never did try those "soft and comfortable" tires so perhaps I'm glad - I started on wooden wagon wheels and will probably end that way too. Trust me if I thought different tires would make me faster I'd have tried them, but flatting always seemed to be a *lot* slower ;)

I've managed to get the sequel to be only at the verrrrrrrrrrrry end of the brake pull (like when I'm at like 3mph or less). I've tried everything- clean the rotor with isopropyl alcohol, clean the rotor and pads with finish line disc brake cleaner, wire brush the rotor and pads to scrap any grime off, sand the top layer of the pads off, and torching any contaminants that could be lingering on the pads, all to no avail. My next attempt is to use some Squeal Out (I've read good things about this stuff and the marketing material says it's meant to decontaminate the rotors and clean the system, but a disc brake lubricant gives me pause). Any other ideas out there that before I throw in the towel and start replacing parts?

Sometimes repetition is key? If you don't want to shell out another $100+ for a new rotor and pads (woof), repeat all of the above in the most controlled environment possible so you don't accidentally recontaminate the parts.

Also what kind of pads are you running? Eloy turned me on to SwissStop yellow pads for cross and they are dead quiet and stop well. Not sure about longevity, but they seem to be lasting pretty well through last year's gravel/cross/cunningham season.
I've been running Shimano's resin compound on road since I made the switch to disc brakes and generally love them. I switched to SwissStop yellow on my cross bike and have been loving them.

I think it's something on the rotor because I've glazed over two separate sets of pads. Maybe lighting the rotor on fire will do the trick lol

PSA on the Garmin Varia; apparently it only detects delta Velocity; I was screaming down a curving road today at 40+ (gravel tires) and my head unit showed clear skies behind. An abundance of caution made me check with my own Mark V Eyeballs and there was indeed a big ass vehicle right behind me.

I’ve found that messing with disc brakes while wearing latex gloves yields better results because it takes away some risk of contaminating the rotor 
Update: 

Squeal Out is an interesting product and surprisingly good. It's gritty like carbon paste and really gets in there to clean the rotors/pads. It did in fact get the squeal out and I thought my problem was solved and then it lurked back in after about 10-15 tests at the speed I was having problems. Last step I'll try is to rebleed the system and make sure everything is tight and squared away (even though there is no evidence fluid is leaving the system). If that doesn't work, I throw in the towel and admit defeat

I consider the squeal a safety feature. Lookout #$&%!-ers  here I come!

Wouldn't the plug puncture the tube regardless? Ortenblad said it kept air, but it's a weird setup
Ortenbald said they didn't use it cause swapping wheels made more sense.
My recent Acme bike fit recommended a longer stem and shorter cranks. The canyon I ride has the integrated steam and aero bar with internal cables. I took on the daunting task of installing the longer integrated stem/handlebars, re-running my brake hoses, and swapping my cranks. Was fun to play bike mechanic Saturday night and yesterday. Seeing my bike almost entirely taken apart was quite anxiety-inducing as this was the most ambitious of home-mechanic work I had done yet. There were several points where I was hoping I didn't screw it up, but all seems to be good. After a pretty thorough bleed of the brakes and some annoying tinkering to get the caliper and rotor spacing (mostly) dialed, I took it out for a test ride last night before sundown. The new position will take a bit of getting used to, but so far so good.

The UCI Management Committee also approved several propositions from the Equipment and New Technologies Commission for modification to the UCI Regulations linked to equipment design. Some of these propositions follow recommendations made by SafeR, the organisation dedicated to safety in professional road cycling. The increasing speed of races and the safety implications of developments in equipment are one of SafeR's main areas of focus. This has been the subject of detailed consultations with teams, organisers and riders, including the distribution of questionnaires to all professional riders and teams.

It has therefore been decided to set the maximum height of bicycle rims for mass start road events at 65mm as of 1 January 2026.

As of the same date, the minimum overall width of handlebars (outside to outside) for mass start road and cyclo-cross events will be set at 400mm, with an inner width of 320mm between brake levers. Meanwhile, the minimum overall width of handlebars (outside to outside) for mass start track events will be set at 350mm as of 1 January 2027.

For bicycles used in the road (as of 1 January 2026) and track (as of 1 January 2027) disciplines, only a maximum internal fork width of 115 mm at the front and 145 mm at the rear (measured along the entire length of the front fork and rear triangle) will be permitted.

The UCI Management Committee approved the introduction of a distinction between road and track time trials on the one hand, and road races on the other, with regard to the helmets that may be used. The specifications for helmets that may be used in the various events will therefore be clarified with effect from 1 January 2026. The UCI Equipment Unit, in consultation with the Equipment and New Technologies Commission, will continue to work in detail on the subject of helmets, both in terms of approval procedures and specifications for the coming seasons. Sucks for the smaller women trying to hang onto those cow horn bars.
I hope this doesn’t go through. It’s unfair on smaller women and smaller male riders. I am a shorter person and I really enjoy riding with my 38cm bars on track and road. 40cm feels unwieldy now. That said, I’m also not racing a lot of races with UCI equipment checks.

You are correct that there's some unfairness, and I will expect they will change the rule to allow 38ish before it goes into effect. All that said, Pros can deal with whatever the rules are, much like, literally any job.

They're worried about the six-footers racing 32cm bars.

I rode with a big guy a few times who raced for Foundation.  He was obsessed with marginal gains.  No tape or grip material on his bars, for example.  He was riding something like 32cm bars, which he thought were great, except when sprinting.  In those moments, they were too narrow.

Since suddenly accelerating out of the saddle is a rare occurrence in mass start bike racing...


From what I've seen, most super narrow bars flare out to a more reasonable width in the drops, but it is definitely ackward doing a standing effort on the hoods when they are so narrow.
