It's a 2011 BMC SLR01. The 2013 is basically identical, except they fucked me by changing from BB30 to BB86. I'll have to send the cinqo back to Spearfish and pay $350 + shipping to get them to put it on new cranks/rings.

I'm happy that BMC is replacing it. I can't really ask for much more than that.

can't hurt to ask them(competitivecyclist?) about throwing in some sort of bb adapter or something.   i mean, the frame did just...crack.  it's only 2 years old.

You can go gxp to bb30, but you can't go bb30 to gxp.

Worth a shot to ask for a free replacement. When my old Cervelo R3 cracked and they upgraded to a 2012 with BBright, they threw in a free BBright FSA crankset. Pretty fn sweet.

yeah i didn't mean an adapter, sorry.  i meant what jeff said.  ask them to make you whole.  you paid a lot of money for a bike, then it broke for no reason.  and now they want you to pay $400 to make your parts work with their replacement?  put up a fight!  chase the break!  competitivecyclist cares about their reputation.  they have to overcome the "how can i trust an anonymous website in the cloud" bias.  there's the BMC warranty, but there's also competitivecyclists's NQA lifetime returns (a policy that predated your purchase, perhaps, but an argument worth making?)

Ditto for me, except I spent a *season* dropping my chain the front because that fucker wouldn't shift smooth before I noticed the crack.  My warranty was done through Cervelo though, as it was a much older frame.

well...I have finally bought a head unit and all the accoutrement that goes with it for my power cal chest strap.  I gots me a Cateye Stealth 50, ant + speed cadence sensor and Tate barfly mount.  The whole kit (powercal strap, gps enabled head unit, sensor and mount set me back around $300....for that I will have power guestimation from a limited bike computer.  The powercal makes power smoothing a study in futility since it jumps all over the place.  I just wanted a way to record power to get a handle on longer efforts...20 minute efforts, races, rides what have you.  I can upload my gps data straight to Strava or Training Peaks...When I tested the powercal over the winter...my 20 minute efforts, when compared to what I was seeing on my computrainer head unit, were pretty accurate.  I've had a powertap and never really got into training with power.  I'm putting my toe back in the power pond.....whatever it's smaller than the Garmin stuff as well. yacks

I have a specialized Toupe expert - not much cushion but I like the saddle, and a specialized Alias.  I don't think they still make the Alias, so the Romin would probably be the closest.  Specialized doesn't allow their saddles to be sold online, from what I understand, except on their own site, so you'd have to check in stores.  I got both of mine from Sids.  I switched to the cut-out a few years ago and will stick with it.

I just moved to the specialized Romin from Toupe; I'm a big fan so far.

@Patrick, I'm not sure saddle recommendation are worth that much since they are such a personal choice and depend on physiology, riding style, etc. I'd find a store that lets you borrow saddles to try out. What I will advocate about Specialized is that some stores have a sit-bone measuring device, which if used correctly can narrow the choice down considerably.

Ride Brooklyn has some test models of Selle Italia. YOu pay to try for a certain time and then get credit towards a saddle purchase.

Patrick, in that case, Ride Brooklyn has a cardboard box full of cheap-o saddles they'll sell you for under twenty bucks. My commuter has an imitation Fizik Arione I nabbed from that box. I think they gave it to me for $12. It's nondescript and it works fine for my seven mile commute.

I have an older model Specialized body geometry saddle.  You can have it.  I can bring it to one of the Prospect races if you like...yacks

Definitely check out the Ride Brooklyn "Box-o-Saddles" (TM), which is an awesome place to find a saddle for a commuter/backup bike. I got a GT branded imitation Arione wannabe, which is quite comfy (probably the same as Whitey's), and a Selle Italia saddle for my CX bike out of that magic box.

thats the cancellara saddle. i was looking online, it's not as expensive as other saddles.

So, who knows how to remove Speedplay cleats when the screws are worn down enough that it is impossible to get see the screw heads? I cracked the cleat retention spring today...I wonder why? After being used for 6 years, it somehow gave up the ghost all of a sudden. It apparently still "retains" the pedal, but I am getting a weird clicking/creaking noise when I pedal, which is only really a problem when I ride near other people.

I would kind of like to keep the shoes and just replace the cleats...I mean, yes the shoes are held together with duct tape, and when they get wet they smell like something died in them, but I am very attached to those shoes.

Any ideas? I was thinking about drilling out the screw heads and trying to extract them that way. Thoughts?
