finished up my mtb (re)build and now thinking of going to Stillwell saturday. haven't been yet.

@RobertMullen i'm ~this~ close to signing up for that race. have to see how dialed in the bike is first.

Consider it! I have no idea what to expect lol.

Hoping to put out some power numbers like mvdp at Albstadt though

Holy fucking hell.
I raced the Governor’s Guard Round Up in Avon CT this weekend and took the win in the Cat 3 race. I went in with zero expectations as I’ve never done a mountain bike race and this was my first race since a December 2019 cross race (!). The course was like a gnarly CX course- lots of super sharp steep hills, really fast single track and p much zero technical features. We raced 5 laps of a fast 1.8mi circuit.

I was stuck in 4th for a bit of the first lap but Lawrence, another nyc guy, said we should work together and close the gap. We did that and I took the lead before the end of the first lap and built a big gap on the field with one other masters racer on my wheel. We stayed away for the rest of the race and thankfully things didn’t come down to a sprint bc I was cooked. MTB racing is fun but this got me really excited for cross!

That's amazing Robert!
Thanks Jules!
Congrats! You look like you had fun. I see more mountain bike races in your future

Love that you're sporting the retro Kissena Cap
Did anybody see the post race interview with Victor Koretzky after his win today
he had these clear tubes coming out of each nostril
i can’t find a picture on line , but it’s the first time I’ve seen these , like a super charged nose strip
Thanks for the hat, Patrick!

I saw that too! Couldn’t find a picture either but you can kinda see it here:

I’m pretty sure it’s called a nasal dilator, basically physically opens up your nostrils. Froome and sky were using them at one point but I think the science behind it is not super supported

Wait, the was literally my old cap? I had no idea. Wear it in good health as it seems to bring you luck!
Thanks for the hat, Patrick!

Haha yes! You gave it to me when I sold the Kickr to you I think. I’ll take the compliment even if it is on a piece of clothing you gave me ;)
Amazing morning at Rockland reserve in Connecticut, until it wasn’t @AndrewJohnson advice ringing in my ears
Ouch.
MVP's terminator-style glasses wipe...

I raced with the cat 2s this weekend in the MACHO mtb race at Stillwell. I ended up 3rd overall in the time trial-ish format. They sent 2 riders off every 10 seconds so you ended up racing alongside other people but it was kind of hard to tell where you were at. I figured if I was catching people and people weren't catching me, I would be doing okay. It ended up being a really challenging but interesting format.

The course was just okay- they used most of the black/blue trails but added in a few sections that weren't a part of the mountain bike trail system. One was a rutted out drainage trail and the other was an incredibly steep and long sandy climb. From what I understand, no one was able to actually ride up it. I felt good on 90% of the course but made some sloppy mistakes on the second lap.

I raced mostly with two enduro-teens who would fly down the rooty descents and then would come back on the climbs. They were tough but fun wheels to follow. I'm looking forward to working on some skills n drills so that my decent fitness can actually get me through the course.

Shout out to Ricky C, former (?) Kissena, for taking the overall win in the Cat 1 field.

Also, the most chaotic shirt i've ever been given at a race

Unfortunately forgot my lil gopro and neglected to take any riding pics or vids but went to Powder Ridge in Middlefield, CT (30 minutes north of New Haven in the center of the state) this Sunday for some gravity-assisted MTB enjoyment.

Such a fun time and though overall the park is super rocky for a bike park I survived the full day and had a blast on my hardtail (I was one of two people there on one though). Pretty mucky with some very sticky mud from Friday's storm there as you can see from the picture. Thinking I should have taken a before an after weight for science.

Anyway, if you're into the shreddy stuff at all, I highly recommend going to a bike park like Powder Ridge or Mountain Creek (in NJ), rent a full-suspension bike and get out there!

This doesn't appear to be bumping to the top of the category, so cross posting here:

MVH hills seems more cross friendly than MTB fun, am I right?
US riders are destroying the short track and cross country races this year, it is so stupid awesome to watch!

Fun seekers !
Jim Nelson and myself are planning to go Mountain creek trail park in Vernon NJ , June 22nd  for some down hill action ,
we will be using our own bikes , but rentals are available , we have not done this before , so we will be taking it chill I assume
let us know if you’d be interested

First time at a bike park for me ,was a ton of fun
Jim &Patrick drove out this morning to Mountain Creek ,
We used our own bikes and hit the gondolas ,
and explored the green trails slowly before we ventured to some blue trails , mainly kept to the flow trails , met lots of friendly riders who were happy to give us some tips
sadly thunder and lightning closed the lifts around lunch time and some heavy rain forced our hand to head home a little early

great day out !

The XC World Cup from Crans-Montana was a bonkers display of technical mountain biking
worth a watch ,

Totally agree, it sure looked the most sophisticated technical world cup this season
