Looks like I can't make it. The glories of clean cycling are such I can't get a chopper ride back from the event in time to make an event in NYC.
However, for those who were interested in a Battenkill talk, I can do that Monday, April 8. Just need a location.

William/attendees,
Contemplating bringing nephew, do we have headcount for other kids and age range?
Caroline wants to ride for an hour and wondering what other people with kids are planning on kidutainment front (apart from squirrel gutting).
Activities wise we have:

William's yard is big and beautiful with lots of room to stretch out there is a decent vineyard http://www.millbrookwine.com/index.php across the street with tastings/tours
Lastly, do we need to be weary of ticks this time of year?

right now, the kiddie patrol seems to be just Patrick Grehan's two boys, who are somewhere in the 10 - 15 range. bring em up - it will be fine.
ticks: this is not high season for ticks, but if you're rolling around in the grass, always do a tick check that night. and be sure to check you unmentionables.

Unfortunately, I have to bail on the Ronde. I've had a stomach bug for the past few days. I'm not feeling any better today, so I am not going to travel far from home (or a toilet). Sorry to miss it. Thanks William (and Al) for putting this together. Hope everyone has a blast.

Everyone's plan B should be taking a metro north train to Wassaic and then riding the 8 miles to the house, about 6 of which will be over the nicest dirt road on the course.

Metro-North Railroad

While I haven't gone on the roads WDC has selected, the carbon brake surface issue hardly changes from road riding. So if you're riding carbon rims on the road, there is little different. FWIW, I've ridden carbon rims at Battenkill. While I did crack one this last time, my bike was either run over or landed on or both, so considering my frame was trashed, I probably shouldn't attribute the crack specifically to the conditions. As for the tires, a smooth Ultremo vs. a minimal herringbone of a Vittoria shouldn't make any difference. If you're particularly worried, put on 25mm tires.

My plans sort of hinge on bringing my daughter up (age 9). I'd been assuming there would be lots of kids running around and the whole thing would just sort itself out.

This would be my first-ever Kissena event. Don't even have the official garmets (yet), but I gather from the forum I could hope to get somebody's yummy old jersey.I have no experience with this type of things and I'm in no shape to think about it as a "race", but I'll probably be happy to try it as a (hopefully fast) ride.
I do have a (small) car with room for another bike on a hatchback door rack and room for 2 other (3 if you like squeezing) non-cyclists.
Anybody interested in this? (perhaps in exchange for me borrowing that old jersey
