I was screaming at the computer when Boassan Hagen was dragging his way up to the other two even though I knew it would probably mean he wouldn't have any kick left.

Bummer for Martin.
Jim's team on dope. Requesting a control.
Ugh, Tony Marin is killing me!

If he hadn't flatted I'd have crushed the first day. And now this. Poor guy. Awesome rider, lots of bad fortune this year.
Replacing Edward Boassen Hagen with Tony Martin at 11 pm on Friday night to take advantage of his time trial prowess.  Worst. Decision. Ever.

NBC had a little profile of the serious crashes last year, talking about the dangers of the first week of the tour.

Interesting quote from Christian Vandevelde:

"Teams that kept their whole teams at the front…those are the ones who didn't crash. Its kind of like, you know, screw your buddy kind of racing. Its getting more and more cutthroat every year. Speeds are getting faster. Respect is getting less."

Not sure I quite understand it - aren't there lots of reasons why teams keep their whole teams on the front? Maybe he means those on the front always going so fast through technical areas that it makes it really dangerous for everyone else? Was there a time when it was different?

I continue to marvel at the Michael Barry observation of shoe buckles grazing spokes all the time.
Has the velogame site not updated with today's stage?
Not yet.......
@jim_nelson

I am sure you're happy to see your team remain on top as long as possible.

Team bleeding carrots will do what they're born to do. Sink to the bottom like a sack of bricks from ill timed crashes and crazy flat stage shenanigans.
New standings are in. Big jumps made by Ryan and Craig. Jim's still ruling the podium's top step.

Jim is breaking away...

I have confidence that Casar and Schleck and Fofonov will come through.  Can me make alliances, ala Risk?
I just have to say Cuddles is staying safe there in the last 10K ensuring he stays upright for the 3rd week.
Interesting. Jim and I both have Sagan and Cav, so that's a wash...

But he went with Wiggo and I went with Cadel, so the battle for the Tour may well be the battle for bragging rights!

In the meantime, I'll ride Cancellara's yellow jersey.
What are the rules for injury?  Are all of us with PanzerWagon just hosed?
Cuddles was quite relaxed in the post race interview. As opposed to his former self, even world champ self, the tour winner version seems much more affable.

Some journalists asked him why other guys were faster and he lost his guy's wheels at some point in the lead in. He just calmly said, "Aw, I got squeezed out. I lost the wheel. Happens to me sometimes." and smiled.

I kinda miss the DON'T TOUCH ME cuddles too though.
Good, bad, chop-your-head-off or friendly.  Dude is is a mother-f*ing badass in the best possible sense of the term.

The defunct teams are making a come back.  A few more days and Ryan and I will be sitting on the top two podium steps as Cancellara keeps the yellow. To mix things up, I've picked Hesjedal and a very dark horse Schleck as my overall contenders. We shall see 2.5 weeks from now.
Aly and I are both rocking the most riders (4 apiece) without any points. Holla for eurotrash packfiller!
I want this guy as my Tony Martin replacement

Siutsou is out. That means all you wiggo fans are going to have a harder time without the pacing he can provide in the mountains.
Some more movement at the top after today's stage.

the only thing that is keeping me from being in the cellar is this Peter Sagan guy. He seems to be doing well. Anybody know anything about him?
AWWWW YEEEEAHHHHHH
Damnit.  Why did I drop Boss Hog?  Oh yeah, for comedy purposes....
Yeah, things got a lot more interesting today.

Turns out Cancellara was super cheap at 8 points. I just wasn't sure of his form. Nice pick.

I'm hoping DZ was just having a bad day on Saturday.

@Dan, good job on picking Chavanel as well, but may I ask what's with Martinez de esteban??

^This guy still hasn't scored a goddamn point for me yet.
He's waiting on his 400k euro lawsuit...
Fofonov has just scored me a whopping 15 points.  Not sure how, but that's nearly half of Fschleck's total. Sweetness.
Anybody object if I merge this with the larger 2012 Tour thread?
