Could be.  On the one hand, Julich was getting his ass handed to him in Europe until the summer of '96.  He was definitely doping after that.  

On the other, I believe Carney got mono or some other debilitating virus fairly early in his pro career, and allegedly trained pretty conservatively after that.

Probably and unfortunately it wont look like much. looks like they have added a few new things, but they have been tracking data this way in the tour for the last 3 or so years, and nothing much have yet come about.

I do hope they crack it at some point, and start showing real time data in a compelling way.

I broadly agree with ending prize money in amateur cycling, especially for non-elite categories (and indicated as much when I filled out the survey). Amateur cycling can become more sustainable and improve the quality of its competition by casting a wider net for participants, in other words becoming more diverse in age, wealth, gender and race. Vandivort's on the right track wanting to invest less in prizes and more in development, outreach, and education.

But when he argues to divert registration fees into more and better amenities (he cites Rasputista as an example) instead of making those fees more affordable, he's heading in the wrong direction. The only people who get to consider the "value proposition" of spending $75 on registration fees week in and week out are the kinds of people already over-represented in the amateur ranks. I usually attend only one if any such "all-inclusive" cycling events each year, and yeah, I go if I feel it's worth the money. But during the rest of the long cycling season, I'm thinking about the quality of the course, whether I'm racing with teammates, and how easy (relatively) it is to get there. If I want coffee at the race, I'll pack a thermos.      

Prize money is a total drop in the bucket at nyc park level. Its maybe 10%
of the budget. While that might be wnough to lower fees by 5$ that isn't
exactly lowering the barrier of entry for anyone. I mean think about
it.

Parks also limit our infrastructure by not allowing us to put it up. Read
crowd fencing,banners, etc. It just is what it is.

Should there be prize money. Yes and no. Id hope it would help bring
people back to racing fir the sheer enjoyment of racing, no other reason.

I don't have a problem with a 321 park race paying out 200$/top 3 (twice
entry fee, 1.5x entry fee, entry fee). But the reality is cyclists arent
smart enough to understand there
1-is no competition in the market anymore
2-just go have fun, cause you're probably not fast enough to podium anyway.


Prize money is a motivator for....3% of the field.

The other part of my brain says "supercross". It most definitely has an
amateur prize list. It is most definitely a "marquis" event for our area,
if not the country (thanks kcc). Should we do a little better?

My gut says yes, especially when combined with the travel aspect for 80% of
our fields. Whereas a park winner has an entry fee to recoup for
podiuming, a sccx winner very likely has significant travel/hotel costs.

Its my own thought, and of course therefore subject to oh so very much.
But if anyone has thoughts, I'd love to hear them.

Myerson fwiw has spoken out against prizes for amateurs, but has not
informed me about the series.

Out of curiosity, what is the other 90% of the budget? NYC park racing seems like a real particular animal. Vandivort could've been more helpful if he'd contextualized that $10K figure that CRCA gives out in amateur prize money within the rest of the budget for a season's worth of races.
