Brick NJ is right next to Wall NJ ... I am just sayin.
This is great news. It is near highways and transit. It is closer than T-Town(in theory) Not sure if I believe google (considering Garden State Parkway traffic)- but it claims its 59 miles, 1 hour 9 min from Grand Army Plaza, so its defintely closer than T-Town distance wise - but I wouldn't be surprised if shore traffic means it takes the same time to drive there
by train - Its a 2 hour ride Penn Station to Belmar on NJ Transit.
I am curious what is happening to the "Wall Township Speedway" - the stock car track? It says the velodrome is part of "Wall Stadium". Will there be bikes and cars using the same venue (albeit at different times) ? Or is it a different track on the same property ? http://www.wallspeedway.com/ makes no indication of their going away - they have lots of events posted . They also dont mention the velodrome anywhere in their news section either. I wonder what the stock car fans would think of a bunch of cyclists coming to town ?
someone should call Cycles 54 and ask them. They're probably the closest shop. I'd do it now, but they're closed.
The proprietor, Christian Young, is an ex-teammate of mine from my junior days. He runs a weeknight training crit series, weekend crits and the Tour of Fairhaven. I anyone would know about this it would be him.
It is pretty easy to get to. I routinely drive to Toms River, which is about 20-25 minutes further south in 90 minutes from Brooklyn. I would not doubt the 70 minute estimate.
I'm pretty sure some of my dad's friends race cars there. I had no idea there was velodrome potential.
My folks have lots of space and if racing happens, I'm sure they'd be happy to host cyclists who want to crash for the night or make a weekend at the Jersey Shore out of it. GTL. know what i'm saying?
Talking to the organizer, it sounds like cars will still race on weekends, and bikes midweek. I suppose it's a way to make a small amount of money from a space that just normally sits idle during the week. I asked him about measurement lines:
"No the lines will stay the same, The "Yellow" line is the measurement line (Black), There is no Blue cote-de zur, at this time there is no sprinters lane, but we are working with the track owner on this one for possiblities, and as far as a Stayers line the white lines will be used for this. We will be putting Measurement lines on the inside of the Yellow line as well as 200m line. GSVA"
Thanks guys! I\'ve attached some pictures of the SI Advance article, it made it on page 3 I believe.
As for the article from williams- the lady I stayed with did a poor job of writting it and then the editor just butchered it even more, as the title makes very little sense.
@Jules --on the RKP hgh article: I just posted the following comment there, based on some theories I've heard regarding my caveman diet.
Here's a research abstract from the NIH: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12797841
And here's my comment on the RKP post (currently awaiting moderator approval):
norm says: January 28, 2012 at 8:56 pm "Raymond should consider looking into the research on fasting before very high-intensity (non-endurance) workouts. Supposedly, the combination boosts HGH, but I haven’t read enough to know the particulars of the experiments nor how much of a boost one can get. Paleo Diet followers are onto this natural HGH rise with fasting… and that diet is, perhaps, another thing Raymond might check out. Joe Friel’s Paleo Diet for Athletes is quite interesting (at least for this old guy racer) and has helped me drop from 170 to 155lbs this winter, and I eat a lot! I’m still in base training, so performance benefits –if any– are forthcoming. Performance aside, I am confident that I am much healthier. I’m not associated with Friel or any Paleo gurus, I’m just experimenting with the diet.
Thanks for this post RKP, it definitely captured my interest. And I agree with the author, Charles, that dropping the drug bans would be catastrophic to many athletes’ lives and would quickly make for some ugly and uninspiring racing (whether Masters or ProTour)."
