From what I've gathered from the thread over on r/velo is that (though not the norm) it's not unheard of for prize money to take a few months to be received, but the lack of communication coming from Legion is shady and a horrible PR move.

I really hope she (and everyone else) gets paid.

That's good, but it opens with this

A half-mile away?  Walk it, ride a bicycle.  This is why the US has a problem; the author thinks an expensive tool that barely saves her anything and works against her stated goals (convenience and exercise) is the best solution.  

 a mile of an e-bike ride isn't exercise.  I don't even think a mile on a bike is exercise, unless you're spending most of it climbing.

How much could Tom Danielson be making as a coach?

I ask because the following line jumped out at me in an interview with Lauren de Crescenzo.  

"After she won Unbound, everything changed. A dream came true. Her coach Tom Danielson offered to match her salary at the CDC. She quit her real job."

She had a masters in public health and working for a federal agency.  It's not like she was a public school teacher in much of the country.

For speculation's sake, this would suggest that Danielson's coaching business brings in somewhere between $120k to $250k (ish) per year at a minimum as income (not profit) 

 -- Cinch has 8 coaches, if each coach has 10 clients at $250/month avg, that's $240k, so possibly in that ballpark. Totally possible they make more, even much more.

Could also be that they do not make nearly that, but betting that her success will bring business, seen as a investment or marketing expense (i.e. literally the salary of almost all pro riders is a marketing expense for the sponsor)

Thanks for the numbers.

So far as I can tell, most coaching outfits treat their coaches as freelancers rather than employees.  And in that, the coaching outfit functions more like an agent.  At $250/month, that's $3,000/year per client.  you have to expect churn.  I'd think that coaches would want 15-20 clients a year for personal coaching if it's a full-time job.  At 20 clients average, that's $60k per year per coach.  I'd think they'd keep at least 2/3 of it, if not more.  As a result, Danielson's income, assuming 7 coaches with 20 clients would be a max of $138,000 from the other coaches, plus what he gets (which I think would be supplemented with camps and such).  I'm sure the business is relatively low overhead, but paying her full-time salary would be a huge investment in a single marketing vehicle that wouldn't seem to be great payoff.   

I'm wondering if he's got some deep-pocketed fanboys as clients and he wanted to do this and they bankrolled it.     Or, if it's a mutually advantageous fiction.  

Again, all speculation. Send him a note and ask him.

$138k + whatever Danielson brings in (he is likely the one that brings in the most) is inside the range I described.

The avg salary for a CDC research fellow is $68k, let's say Lauren was on the very high end making $85k to $120k, and it all fits.

Here we are talking about it..., so the marketing aspect clearly worked.

I don't like Tom Danielson, not to mention the crazy cringe video, but kudos to him for believing that Lauren is worth the investment and support.

So I was bugged that there was no worthwhile explanation nor follow-up on efforts to counter the anti-trans legislation in Arkansas.  To me, if I was to go to CX Worlds, I wanted to know if there was anything I could help with rather than just showing up.

I was thinking it would be a simple writing assignment and done quickly.  I quickly found out there was lots to explain and many people to speak with.  So I divided the article up into two parts.  The second, on what to or not to do was much harder, mostly because people weren't getting back to me.  I don't know why that was, if it reflected me or the priorities of the people I was trying to speak with.  I still didn't speak with many people I had hoped to.

I don't know if this is a reason not to ride for EF or just a small insight into why being a pro racer is can be pretty miserable.

After seeing his race days dwindle to almost nothing, Lawson Craddock got an email telling him his contract wouldn't be renewed.  He was national TT champion, went to the Olympics, the Worlds, wore the Dauphine KoM Jersey, helped a teammate win a stage at the Vuelta, and was one of the few Americans on this American-registered team.
