JB makes it sound like Horner "decided" not to do TdS or the Crit Dauphine.

I'm actually surprised to hear how much choice the riders have in such matters.

Obviously race and training schedules would have to be fluid but I would think that the team that's paying you would largely have the right to dictate your race schedule.

This letter is intense. Doesn't matter who you are. It would not be pleasant to receive a letter like that. And I thought I had a bad day on Sunday after receiving an unfundable score on my grant.

Earlier today on the NBC sports channel they had a live interview with bob roll on this. He had read the letter, info etc and seemed informed. Being in LA's camp or not he had some interesting things to say about the process used by USADA.

I bet Horner is still out. Maybe it has nothing to do with his back nor his absence from Suisse.

I figure Chris thought he'd mastered the politics involved. He's the only Radio Shack American with a legit shot at going to the big show. He's loved by fans. he's got the old guy angle on his side. But considering his poor showing at California, the team had little reason to have faith in him. Last year, he was terrible at the Tour, but so, too was Levi and Jani--and he and Kloden were the only ones who stayed. Kloden has at least been showing up.

re Dombrowski--Davide Frattini won the Baby Giro. But then, so did Pantani.

they will have to dig deep into the top 10 in order to find riders who have not been found guilty of doping or strong linked with it. The results could be as odd as:

1999 - Fernando Escartin

2000 - Fernando Escartin

2001 - Andrei Kivilev

2002 - Levi Leipheimer

2003 - Hamair Zubeldia

2004 - Carlos Sastre

2005 - Levi Leipheimer

And I'm suspicious of many of those !. Heck Sastre might find himself with an additional 4 GC wins.

NBC had Bob Roll on and from what he was saying, according to the letter sent - they have no hard evidence against LA during his tour wins and that the evidence in the letter is only from '09-'10. All previous evidence is circumstantial, so he can't be stripped of his tours. He also wondered why they are going forwards now, on 3 year old evidence - why not last year or before the justice dept dropped the case? The UCI and WADA have no case against LA - so whats the point?

Guilty or not, Im usually just as suspicious of authority as rider. To me, the timing of this all just seems odd. LA made a lot of enemies over the years Im sure, and this could just be some mediocre bureaucrats vendetta. His product sponsors/endorsements are sticking with him and normally they run at the first sign of trouble.

Don't listen to Roll. He was on Trek's payroll along with Sherwen and Liggett, and has adopted their 'see no evil' defense.

Don't listen to Horner. He's still on the Trek payroll and is smart enough not to bite his ride.

Timing is always curious.

I'm happy to wait and see what comes out.

In 1989, the year after the Olympics where Mionske got fourth, he showed up at a local category 2/3 crit in New Jersey and tried to register as a category two racer. At least, that's what it seemed like he was doing at the time.
