Road to valor. Worth reading. I have it to lend.

UGHHH - the "QueensWay" .

Anytime they mention the High Line, it makes me want to puke. The High Line is great - but its a one off thing. Lets not try to replicate it. Reclamation of rail lines has existed for eons - why is it that the High Line all of a sudden got people to wake up.

IF a park were to be made there, I think a run of the mill rail trail \ greenway (like the South County and North County trails in Westchester) would be great.

Charlie L and Clayton LOVE the idea of a park there. I think there is a need to bring transit back .The line has a lot of potential to serve south east Queens with quicker service to the rest of Queens and Manhattan.

One idea recently floated around would be to bring back a recreational trail AND transit service. The right of way is wide enough to handle both (though the bridges are not) . Additional bridges (presumably lighter weight) would need to be added to handle the rec users , and\or they would have some street crossings.

those first two paragraphs sounded like sponsored placements.

...NASA-worthy Capo bib shorts — woven from high-tech fibers that compress leg muscles to minimize fatigue — he pulled on a pair of winter cycling tights lined with fleece from the waist to the thighs. Next came over-the-calf Smartwool ski socks under Sidi Genius 5.5 shoes...

I have so little faith that anything with the UCI involved will be credible. Any reason to think differently about this?

Just wondering - has Samson cut his hair off?
He would have to confess to USDA for that...confidence is high that I will be rockin the Samson for awhile...

Oh yes:

Unbelievable.  Mr. Anti-Doping Dieter Drake is his partner for this.  Oh the crisis of conscience!  Devils Kitchen competitive hill climb on Saturday, Fondo on Sunday...

CRISIS!

Don't like the shill, but thought-provoking nonetheless.
Certainly worth thinking about. I also think the external temp and humidity could make a significant difference.
In Calif, sweat dries rapidly on you skin, leaving sometimes heavy salt deposits. At lower temp or higher humidity, your skin stays wet, allowing for some salt readsorption. This has to have an impact on blood osmolarity, and hence demands for nutritional replacement.

And I just don't get the difference of pre-dissolving the sugars in the drink or having the cliff blocks dissolve in your stomach. Doesn't it end up with the same blood osmolarity? I would be interested in analysis of stool hydration. If the liquid isn't adsorbed, then it passes to the large intestine and that would be useless. The urinalysis assessment, which they don't discuss, would reflect fluid that had entered the blood.

Sorry, but I just finished a 2-day NIH grant review panel . . . I would not give this study a very good score.

Me too.  I really do like to get stuck into a good stool hydration report.
Since stool discussions are on the table...I've noticed some blood in mine recently. A product of too much ibuprofen or a hemorrhoid...either way if you are reading this, enjoy your lunch.

EVERYBODY RELAX!

STOKES IS ON THIS!

I gotta totally agree with Dr. Stokes on this. I think a major flaw in the study is not measuring the osmolarity of the stomach contents after ingesting the "thinner" beverage + shot blocks and then comparing absorption rates between the two diff't solutions.

I think we need us some beakers, hydrochloric acid and semi permeable membranes yo!

Doesn't it just mean less work for your body?

DAMNIT JP

when was the last time you got dropped because your stomach acid was tired?!?

Also, a 54-watt difference? Between the sponsor's beverage and the competitors? Really? Shit. I don't need to train, I just need a new drink.

"Taking the 18 test riders together, the average 15-minute TT wattage with Osmo was 308 watts. With the high-carb beverage that number was 254."

NYTimes article about Red Hook:

P.S. How the hell does Dieter Drake find his way into every cycling article ever written these days?
A friend in LA sent me this link. Looks like LA's answer to Red Hook.

Now I need to send him an impressive Red Hook video back. Any suggestions?
