Hausler should have won but he let up a little as he was leading out a teammate and then had to restart his sprint. Especially heartbreaking bc he had a ton of injuries the next couple of years and just hasn't been the same.

This article is getting some Facebook love right now and my only "problem" with it is that that love bears little resemblance to reality when it comes to local/regional racing. That is to say folks love the story of the "big engine who couldn't (but tried real hard)" but if you look at any number of hard road races in this regions, it's filled with guys who climb off in the feedzone after they've been dropped by the leaders.alyoshas said:

i didn't get the idea that this was about the engine that couldn't but more about what was going through his head while he was attempting to complete the stage. You also can't really blame riders for abandoning the stage when the organizer apologizes afterwards for making it too hard.

Alyoshas, I guess the point I'm really making, is that the article meant to highlight the achievement of hanging tough and fighting to the bitter end, is getting applauded by a racing community who, in general, does not race that way themselves. Or that's my feeling on it. Honestly though, it's probably just another opportunity for me to whine and share excerpts from my tragic novella, "101 Reasons Why I Hate the Bear Mountain Road Race."

Due to the unfavourable weather, the Race Management – by agreement with the Commissaires Panel – has decided to neutralize the race in the stretch of route between Ovada and Arenzano (subject to further assessment of the weather conditions in Arenzano).
The race time of the breakaways and their lead over the chasing group will be “frozen” in Ovada and the status quo will then be resumed in Arenzano, where the race will start again around 2:30 p.m.
