They have had a kick ass road season, no doubt. Last year on the cross circuit...well, it will be interesting if their road experience will take them to the next level this year.

I'd be somewhat surprised if they did.  The road season is long, and it's where their priorities lie.  They'd be better off dialing it back in the fall to ramp up over the winter and hit the spring hard, as racing dials back in June.

Good point. You know, this makes me think of Danny Summerhill. Here's a guy who can and has legitimately beat Jeremy Powers and could potentially be our country's best crossers. And yet, he knows what pays the bills, and ultimately, his job on United Healthcare takes priority.

There is a single point to make.  All cyclists are assholes.  The rest doesn't matter.

I do love his use of the 79th street boat basin as an example of cyclists behaving badly.  For years, the west side was pretty empty, and few came to admire the water with their toddlers.  Cyclists were there back then.  And when other groups found it interesting, felt entitled to wander the path without regard for anyone else, cyclists became the problem.  Kind of like Central Park.  Cyclists have been using it forever.  The problem is other people showed up and felt entitled to go wherever they want whenever they want.

Considering how many city kids don't know how to ride bicycles, I think this is a great educational program to teach children the essential skills of riding as part of PE. I would love to see something similar here in NYC.

That is a great article. I keep thinking about the fact that I paid $20 for the NBC Tour de France App, and I was constantly and sorely disappointed how crappy it was. From a poor rebroadcast of the live stage (albeit without ads), a homepage design that forced you to actively avoid spoilers (WTF, I want to come home and watch the stage not find out who won before I can even get to the videos). Pathetic digital only content.

I would happily pay $10 per month for all the cycling content I could consume, that integrated the best of Steephill (without the dodgy feeds and malware attachments), Fantasy cycling teams (for the full season, not just for a single stage race), and quality behind the scenes content like interviews and pro bike photo spreads. certainly I would use it more during the Spring classics and grand tours, but I would still tune in for some additional content during the rest of the spring and fall. It would get a ton of work during the winter trainer season, but I would be re-watching stages that were worth rewatching from the prior year (which I currently do with YouTube). So to this end, I am doing all this stuff now, just on a disjointed and incomplete set of pirated tools because I refuse to spend $100 per month on cable in order to support the Kardashians and the Real Housewives.

The hard part seems to be none of the existing players are willing to invest in this, yet this model works for NFL content if you're a Pittsburgh fan living in Tempe AZ, or Tulsa OK and want to watch Steelers games rather than whatever is playing in your local market.

Who wants to give me $75M to setup a digital video startup that will deliver a subscription cycling experience to cycling fans globally that takes advantage of the benefits of digital video production and distribution?  Oh, and I will drop Phil & Paul in the North Sea from a helicopter for an added $25M in seed funding.
