What is interesting is the delta between the impression of who cycles (the wealthy), and who is actually out there riding bikes (a broader array of the population).

another way to look at it is that more Citibikes need to be stationed at housing projects.

For all the GFNY and Battenkill chatter, it's striking that to do the Flanders Wielertoeristen is a maximum of 50 Euros if you sign up late to ride the whole Flanders Course.  Provided they haven't sold out the 16,000 slots already.

I would think that there are two things going on here. Citibikes (and by extention all bike shares) need to be actively structured to meet a wider population than just high income urban riders, and the current CitiBike membership incentives for NYCHA residents probably are not actually working.

But do they drug test there?

It could be they're not working, but it could be that Citibike hasn't made their incentives clear. I think it's $60/year for NYCHA residents, and there are also breaks for a few municipal credit unions.  It also could be Citibike doesn't seem to be convenient to people in the 'jects.

Interesting interview with Pinotti. I hadn't heard the idea of a pension as an anti-doping incentive before. I like it though.

I ran into Ryan in the park last night and asked him about it. They are looking at either doing something with Verge or just getting another title sponsor. Supposedly David Sommerville's operation was enough of a rollercoaster that they're not all that fazed by the acquisition.
