wow...I actually really, really want one of those.  Not to ride with, mind you - just for the next time I go to the club.
encountered a citibike on my way to the park today. with a cargo attachment!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GxBu4TUJZA

With the addition of the GoPro, "Hi-Viz" Rigby has taken on a second meaning.

He's like the all-seeing panopticon now.

i had spent some time this afternoon debating how to get the drinks / bbq later.  cab? that'll be expensive and take ages with traffic.  subway? major hassle to switch lines, etc?  walk?  too far.  take my bike?  don't wanna ride back drunk.

and then it hit me: citi bike.  boom.  love this system, love it.
i believe it was churchill who said "if you must drink and ride, do it on a citibike"

Dammit!

So Citibike charged me $40 for not returning a bike for 3 hours even though I returned the bike and got confirmation that it was returned from the infernal green light.

I am disputing the charge, but beware trips that appear to be longer than they are.

If you're a member also check the website, to see whether you can see your rides. They apparently have some issue with a share of the members cannot see their rides (like myself). If you can't see your rides, apparently you can go to a kiosk and get a reciept of your rides to check against your usage.

this is the most compelling case for Citibike that I've heard thus far.
if commuter racing is cat 6, then i guess commuter citi bike racing is cat 7?  if it is, i cat 7'd the fuck out of someone on the manhattan bridge this morning.  i am not proud of it, but can justify my actions in that i needed to openers today.
I've done Manhattan Bridge Citibike openers. It crushes souls when you Cat 7 a fixie hipster (fixpster?) on a blinky blue behemoth.
I finally got my Citibike key today after having ordered it on 6/20. One of the more frustrating experiences I've had lately.

Anyways, the reason for writing is that I notice there is a NYC DOT brochure in the package "The Official Guide to Cycling in NYC" and on the back page there are resources and among them are clubs which has CRCA and Mayor Taylor listed among them but no KCC. I know we haven't been hurting for new members lately but would we want to have KCC listed there as well?

(edit) just found a link to it online: http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/downloads/pdf/dot_bikesmart_brochure.pdf

@Craig they also left USAC off the list of "National" groups... I wouldn't worry too much about it.  We have all the novice members we can handle right now, and a large queue (25+) building for our fall New Member rides.

Has anyone suggested to JP that he write a guide book/tourist book of sites to see and bike routes using the citibike locations?

There, I did it.

Ha! Wes and I did a "team cross post" on this one...

ok, so I put this to the group because something similar happened to me the other day. Who should get the last working bike, First to the bike or first to the Station?

http://www.theatlanticcities.com/commute/2013/09/awkward-ethics-sharing/7057/
I say first to bike.  Some stations are long and the last bike could be at the other end.

Last week, I get to the a station behind my building and there was only one bike and me and another guy looking at it.  I was thinking it would really be lame to fight over the last Citibike (in that station).  First I can just walk to the next station (two blocks away), and second i can really just take the train.  So I waved at him and walked away.
Phillip you are a gentleman.

Just an FYI: $1 rentals for today.

Now that CitiBike has made it to Prospect Park, in terms of kiosks at 16th St, 3rd Street and GAP entrances. I believe it is time for a Kissena Prospect Park CitiBike Race

My thinking is some weekday evening. So we take full advantage of the blinky lights on these things.

Basic set of rules:
3 lap race of Prospect Park and finish on the 3rd street finish line.
KCC kit and helmet required
Le Mans start...all bikes are docked and you have to get your bike out of the dock and start riding.
All bikes will start with their saddles in the same fully down position.
Number of racers is limited to the number of docks at the closest starting station.
Bike swaps are available only at CitiBike stations (if for example you realize after starting that your bike has a wobbly tire or a busted brake you cannot just ditch your bike you have to take it it another citibike station and swap for a new bicycle. and you may reenter the race).
No free laps
Only Citibikes may be ridden, no other bicycle types may be ridden in the race.

Winner receives prizes determined by the Kissena CitiBike Racing Organizing Committee (AKA Lt Dan).

Who's in?
IN
Is this going to replace the club champs?  Because I'll do it if a jersey is involved.
What about for those with no annual membership? Swap bikes every 30 mins (assuming it takes at least that long to do this event)?
I'm in anyway..
I doubt a 3 lap race will really take more than 30 minutes, but that does give me an idea for a longer race. When to swap bikes for a race that lasts more than 45 minutes, or whether to take the penalty. It's like the strategy for pit stops in NASCAR. Do you swap at a station closer or one where you have more likely to find bikes but further away, do you swap earlier in your race and hope to catch people swapping later.
