just downloaded the nbcs tour app to my iphone.  the live stream, so far, is perfect (note that i am connected to wifi).
ted king misses time cut: http://velonews.competitor.com/2013/07/news/ted-king-cut-from-tour-de-france-due-to-ttt-finish-time_293159?utm_content=mt+-+tdf+king+out.&utm_campaign=Cannondale+Pro+Cycling&utm_source=10623&utm_medium=Facebook%3A+CANNONDALE+Bicycle+Corporation
Addendum:

He missed the cut by 7 lousy seconds.......Cannondale challenged but Tour officials would not budge.

This, after riding the TTT with a separated shoulder, on a regular road bike with clip-on aero bars because it eased his pain (a *bit*)....Of course, all caused by the crash which, arguably, the tour officials helped promulgate with the Stage 1 finish line drama.

What a kick in the teeth.

I missed the time cut when I was racing against pros in the RR by less than 30 seconds at Fitchburg back in the day. They wouldn't let me start the crit. That made me mad and sad.

I'm just watching some of the TT now, and I have to say that I'm pleased NBC has finally realized that they just need to use same timing "split/moving graphic" that the Euro broadcasters use. As late as last year, they just ran the time of the current team on screen as they approached the line, instead of being able to see the other teams as they time ticks down.

Never mind...they're still doing something screwy...can't even show the time of the team passing the line right away. Maddening.
NBC Sports still has so much to do. They need to fire the dinosaurs and get some new blood on the mics. Also cut the number of commercials, they don't even have 5 minute content blocks. This is crazy. They could learn something from Eurosport commentary (granted Sean Kelly doesn't really talk, just mumble for 5 seconds every 2 minutes) and Sporza's graphics.

I don't see them making those changes any longer, so I will continue to watch with the sound turned down and my own soundtrack. Today was Skip James, but I thought about classic Motorhead.
the NBC commentary is awful.  they don't say anything interesting.  they don't say anything particularly informative.  and they deliver all of it with the passion of a morning announcement over an elementary school PA system.
I hate to say it, but this is all so predictable. Golf is bearable because they whisper. Baseball because there isn't much to say. Football . . . I either turn down the volume or scream at the announcers.

But for cycling, we have other options. Go to the Flemish stream and enjoy the guttural sounds. Whatever you do, DO NOT listen to NBC commentators. I'd rather set my hair on fire.

THIS.  i do the same with soccer - i'd much rather hear the game called in Spanish.  i only understand a bit of it, but the delivery at least sounds compelling.  GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
When my son plays FIFA soccer on his Xbox, he sets the announcers to Spanish.
Dudes. It is not that hard to get the Kelley/Harmon Eurosport feed for free. It is far superior.
Kelly/Harmon can get pretty tedious after 2 hours of Harmon trying to draw words out of Sean Kelly. I love him as a rider, he was one of the last riders who could win stage races and one day classics, and he rode toe clips long after the rest of the peloton switched to clipless. A true hardman, but the guy can't do anything but mumble into a microphone.

I say, watch NBCSports with the sound off and turn on Spotify and put whatever music you want on until 10k to go. Then watch with whatever Flemish or Italian commentary you want. Everybody wins!

Too bad about Ted King. He breaks down crying in each new interview. You have to suspect that if it was an injured young talent on FDJ they would have ruled differently. C'est la vie!
on the nbsc iphone app (which by the way, is still brilliant) you get different commentary, some australian guy.  he's not great but at least he's better than P & P.
actually, scrap that.  P&P come on later.  oh well.
Yeah, somehow I think Voeckler or Rolland would have been graced the 7 seconds.  That said, I don't have that big of an issue with him getting cut.  Rules be rewlz.  The problem is the random discretion they occasionally apply.
Abslutely LOVING watching Green Edge have to take up the chase.  How many times have they just sat on and watched Cav's team, whatever it is, do all the work and then try to jump in at the last 2000m.  Fat Cav must be loving it.
About Ted King: fucker still managed 46 kmph for the TT, on a road bike, with separated shoulder.  Amazing.
brilliant lead-out by OFQS.
^Spoiler!^

But yeah, not really even close.  BOOM.  Steegman's is his new Renshaw.  Fantasy team reborn! Ok not really.
Hah.  Fat Cav mentioned enjoying seeing Green Edge do some work in his post race interview!
poor sagan just cannot seem to win a stage*.

* actually i don't care. i think he's a tremendous dick.  and his his stupid little beard makes him look like an even bigger tool.
FYI: Eurosport commentary. It is Sean Kelly and Carlton Kirby. David Harmon has not commentated since P-R and is taking an extended break.

still very good commentary though
The better way to do it...
