The Food and Drink Ride

All right you SOB's, I'll be there! Somehow you roped me into these shenanigans through my lady

I might have to skip out early to do some work though...

I'm roping some friends of mine into doing a night ride to Dyker Heights on Sat. Dec 19th to check out the Christmas Lights display (I've heard its great, but dont know too much about it, so I cant promise anything too grand)- we're meeting at Grand Army Plaza at 5pm, to bike the 5 or so miles over there, check out the lights and end somewhere back around Park Slope for Hot Toddies. The more the merrier, would love to have some Kissena folk join and make it a grand old party ride!

Road season is winding down and CX hasn't yet become everyone's obsession so Dan and I were thinking of setting up a ride sometime in Sept...

Yum
I am so going to be on this ride. Though October worked great last year, too.
September is bad for me, weddings and weekend night shifts.  Can we do October?  Weekend of 10/8?  Eh?
Dan and I are both free the last weekend of Sept so figured that would be a good date.  My October is kind of spotty, but certainly the ride can go on without either of us if scheduling for next month works better for most.  I'll set up a poll.

Just to clarify the weekend David and I are free is 9/24-9/25 following weeks in October get a little busy with CX and the other adventures.
Sept. 24 is town hall cross and/or Middlebury, CT cross.

There's also a fairly close CX race on Sunday but Sunday, Sept 25th should be a little bit better for a food/drink ride.

GDI I totally hit Post before finishing up the draft. #fumblefingers
So after much deliberation, polling, and calendar coordination David Yang and I have determined the Kissena 3rd Annual Food & Drink Ride will be Saturday September 24th.

More details to follow, like starting point and what to bring (mainly your appetite and a bicycle).
Hey all, I have to punk out of this weekend.  Go on without me, I'll be there in spirit, eating all the doughnuts and pizza.

I'll hopefully be around for an October ride.
Jeff and I are signed up to race in PA.  Sorry dudes and dudettes!
Have family in town  :'(
it sounds like this weekend is not the weekend for a Food & Drinks ride. lets work on a weekend in October or November for this.

I would love to revive this idea - any takers?
I'm in! From previous official and unofficial iterations, it's best to look for easy in/out spots and end somewhere outside preferably with a convenient place where people can store or lock up their cafe/beer/commute bikes.

Another variation of the idea is the picnic ride - a route snaking through the city, picking up provisions from specialty shops (think prosciuttos, cheeses, fruits, etc.) and ending up at an outdoor picnic space - Central Park, Prospect Park, Madison Square - and laying out a spread and hanging out in less spandex-y kit.
FOOODS!!
Let's go ride bikes and finish in the park!

Stay tuned there may be a post-cunningham pizza party happening next weekend...

Pizza Party People!

Who: YOU
What: Dirt Trails and Pizza
When: Saturday April 22, 2023, 930a - Lunch
Where: Cunningham Mountain Bike Park + Picciotto restaurant in Douglaston
Why: It will be good for your soul, psyche and happiness

Bring your cyclocross, gravel or mountain bike to sharpen up your dirt riding skills and then bring your appetite and sharpen up your Sicilian pizza and cuisine palate! Depending on the crew we can start with the easy eastern trails which are very mild and great for beginners or if you're super rusty (like me!) and then graduate to the more technical trails.

The restaurant is an easy 3 miles from the trailhead and has modest seating on the sidewalk.

Getting there without driving:
By LIRR (get City Tickets since you're traveling within NYC limits)
- From Brooklyn... LIRR Hempstead line from Atlantic Terminal to Hollis
- From Manhattan... LIRR Port Washington line from Penn Station or Grand Central to Bayside
By Subway... F train all the way to the last stop at Jamaica-179th street

Bonus: If we have a crew that hasn't been out to this area we can also check out the Kissena velodrome which is just down the road from Cunningham.

Give a thumbs up if you're in or DM or Slack or Txt me!
Great idea. I’m in!
Also don't worry if you get to the park late, arrive any time, we'll circle back around to the entrance. And if you're just in for the 'za that's totally cool to!
Thanks Dave for a good ride and fantastic pizza

Trails were ridden. Pizzas were had. Tire pressures were discussed.

I can’t wait to do it again!
