The Kissena Early Season Day at the Velodrome (Track on road bikes)

I'm on for the spring series. then I'll grab my bag and head to queens provided we've got a group.

For many, this could substitute for another ride over to Jersey. do the race, ride to Queens, 1.5-2 hours on the velodrome, ride home. or just meet at the 'drome.

If thats the case I'm in as well.
so Joe and Josh seem to be in.

Anyone else? This is a great time and place to work on things like leadouts.
I can do 10:30 - leaving GAP at 9:30, but not earlier. Unless I bring Luka, in which case, I'm driving and not necessarily getting a good workout in and someone will have to help keep an eye on him. Though he's ridden at T-Town, so Kissena will be a breeze.
This is a good thing; I'd come out for it.
I'm in. I'm not racing Sunday, but thinking I might ride up to CP to get a few miles in and watch, and then pedal over to Queens. Any of the SS racers planning to go?
For those racing CP and those meeting them. The races will be finished by 8. If we stick around for prize money, that means we leave by 8:30. A leisurely ride over to the velodrome, puts us there in the region of 9:30.
I'm in for Sunday at the track. Had way too much fun last year to skip this.
hey jeff - you rollin' from BK or CP?
BK. 9 a.m. GAP gets us there at 10.
ok....maybe i'll just do a few training laps in PP and meet you at GAP. what time you thinking? 8:30-9?
Stearns (and anyone else that so desires to join me) - I will be racing in Central Park then riding over to velodrome.

I will gladly escort any and all Kissena riders who are racing CP then going to the velodrome through the streets of my native land - Queens county!
hey josh - thanks. think i'm gonna sleep in instead, do some laps @ Prospect and then ride over from GAP with jeff & others at 9.
I def will be there at GAP at 9AM on Sunday.
JP,
i am up for velodrome! post CPK race.

Anyone else racing Central Park and then riding over ? txt me 646-235-2336 or email me jcaesar.bike@gmail.com and I'll look for you post race.

JP, assuming your race finishes a bit after mine, I'll stick around and wait for you.
Sorry JP, set my alarm for 5:10PM lastnight and didnt' get up till 9ish.
sorry to have missed this....

thierry and i got to GAP at 9, planned to ride over but realized neither of us have a clue how to ride from there to Kissena! never made that trek before.

we salvaged this conundrum by pedaling over the GWB (picking up Capt. Reiners in the process) and riding River Road/Alpine. Reiners stayed to do some repeats, Thierry and I rode back on 9W (family men!) and did our best to ignore the douchey behavior @ Strictly when we stopped for a piss break on the way home.

a nice 50+ mile day helped make missing the Velodrome more palatable - though i'm still bummed we didn't make it..
I had a "lemonade" training day.

Planned almost 2 hours of threshold intervals... planned a compromise with an hour towing the trailer... kiddo wanted to go home after 2 laps.

33 minutes total ride time...
Ack! We were standing around waiting, checking the forum, making sure everyone was ok.

Jules, your kid would have had a blast at the velodrome.
bump
JP - desired date ?
Bump.

Can't believe the season is starting so soon.  And GT has been moved up.

Traditionally, we do this on one of the first two saturdays in March.  Obviously, weather permitting.

This year, I'm wondering if it should be moved to the last Saturday in February (the last Sunday in February is traditionally a all-hands-on-deck sunday ride out to Rockleigh with some hot criterium laps, a mini-race, and then the various category groups split up).
@JP, that would mean all the California training camp crew would miss it :(  March sounds better, especially if it's a few degrees warmer then. Just my two cents, since I would love to join for this.
Ros,
Good point.

Looking at the calendar now.  I've bugged AVD on his race series to see if its happening.  No word yet from him.

When I spoke to AVD at the Harlem crit, he said that he was done promoting and that someone else would be taking over the series...

Still, I sent a tweet to him a few weeks ago and have gotten no response.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
AVD is still promoting his series in the Park.  He was with Charlie on Tuesday negotiating dates with the Park administration.
No long rides until after Feb 27 for me.  +1 for March.
Peoples, I'm thinking this should be for Sunday, March 23rd, at 9am.

This is late enough for people who are racing in Central Park to pick up prize money, a snack, and ride over.  It's early enough that the people who often go over the bridge can start a little bit later and make it to the track on time.  It's far enough from B'Kill that those folks have the following weekend to brutalize themselves in anticipation of that race.  And it's close enough to the start of the L&C Cup that this training will really help.
