For those of you who have emailed me and received nothing but silence for your efforts, I humbly apologize. Bkill and it's dusty glories are done for another year, and I can turn my attention back to helping clothe the nekkid amongst you.

I'm excited to announce that in celebration of Kissena's 50th anniversary season next year, we will be offering new and improved kits. The change will take effect for the next clothing order, which will open in the coming days.

A few things to note:

The kit has, in several places, a "KCC Since 1963" logo that was inspired by kits Kissena wore in the 1960's. This logo will only appear on kits that we run now and through 2013. After that the "KCC Since 1963" logos will be removed but the rest of the kit will remain substantially the same.

Some of you will want to know "what do I do with all my old clothing?" The answer is: "wear it." While we'd like you to make an effort to race in the new stuff, the old stuff is fine for training for now. We don't expect everyone to spend tons of cash all at once replacing every last vest and shoe cover. Our new kits are not a huge departure from our old ones, so we don't think it will hurt us to have two kits on the road as we make the transition. And we think when you see how good the new stuff looks, you're going to want to wear it anyway!

The order will take place through a new online store that will open as soon as we get a test run of the kits printed and approved.

The store will be open for two weeks, and shipping will take another two after that.

Plan on a 4 week cycle after the store opens.

We will periodically reopen the store throughout the year so this will not be your first and only kick at the can.

Special thanks to Ros and his company Anti/Anti http://antiantinyc.com for spending lots and lots of pro bono hours designing the kit and executing all the needed templates.

Of course, thanks to the board for all their hours of hard work making this change happen.

Now, how can I get a few clothing items more pronto? Specifically, I need some bibs badly - I have only one pair still in working order (although William really likes that "other" pair that I rock on occasion). I know the inventory is super-low, but can't anyone help a brother out? :cry:

Are there any difficulties having teammates wearing both new and old kits in a field? Just wondering if usacycling' has any issue with this.

@ Patrick - the rule only deals with Cat 1 and 2 riders. So, we don't really have that problem. And our 1/2 riders either can use the mentor program or the cat 2 rider support program to make sure they have new kits.

Yep, looks awesome. I'm excited.

Aside from the fact that "identifiably similar" is just about as vague as you can get, it seems that only the team's cat 2 riders would have to worry. Not to mention that guys in park races routinely wear whatever the hell they want, regardless. WS United can be seen wearing 2 or 3 different kits in the same race on the same day. And they are ALL diff't colors.

Here's what the rule book says:

(c) UCI Teams and Category 1 & 2 riders who are members of the same Team or club must wear identifiably similar uniforms when competing in a massed start race except where different uniforms are called for by USA Cycling regulations. This also applies to over garments such as vests, jackets, and rain jackets; for UCI Teams and Category 1 & 2 riders who are members of the same team these items must be transparent or identifiably similar except where different uniforms are called for by USA Cycling regulations. [Offending rider not permitted to start if noted before the race; otherwise, warning for first offense].

(d) Club Jerseys. In competition, no rider shall wear the emblem, inscription, or uniform of any club or team which the rider is not eligible to represent [Offending rider may not be permitted to start if noted before the race; otherwise, warning for first offense]. Club jerseys must not be similar in color or design to a National Champion jersey or a USA National Team jersey.

That said, if you guys are going to an a-priority event as a team, regardless of your category, I would make an effort to match each other. If someone on your team can't afford the new kit for a given weekend, maybe lend him a jersey?

P.s. I realize it's too late for this, but I was hoping we could get a small New York City flag printed on the kit somewhere.

The entire kit is an homage to NYC flag with the color choices, the only thing we're missing is a beaver, tobacco-wielding Shinnecock, and some dude in clogs and short pants.

Like Michael said, this is a 50th anniversary of Kissena and we're commemorating this with a unique kit that will be availble for a short time (the remainder of 2012 and all of 2013), after that we'll be offering new kits that will be substantially similar but will not have the 50th anniversary branding. This means that there will be opportunities for updates and changes to the kit that may include suggestions going forward.

Kit looks solid.

I'm confused. Considering the timing, which I can't quite tell when there will be actual jerseys in NYC, it seems like this is a running change that is for training in 2012 and racing in 2013.

Congratulations for a nice update to our classic kit.

Looking forward to seeing it on some bodies (preferably hot chicks, naturally). A lot of clubs do poor job of kit re-design. Either designing something completely different, forcing racers to spend hundreds upon hundreds of dollars for a whole drawer full of new clothes (funny side story...you know how we got Neil Bedzek to be on our team for like 5 minutes before Mengoni poached him...rumor has it, his first team of choice was going to insist he purchase a new bike to match the other guys' bikes), or holding onto a tired design that didn't look fresh when first introduced 20 years ago (ehemCCBcough)

note the tricolor under the brooklyn logo on the left. that flag is printed under the collar on the back side of the jersey. so it does have a small flag. it won't have the coat of arms in the middle white section, but it'd look muddled that small.

Mayoral flag has 5 stars for the five boroughs—literally a 5-star city!

The little flag might look good on the left sleeve where it currently reads "since 1963", when that is phased out in 2014, as Mike mentioned above. Just to keep some of the asymmetry alive, which is nice to keep it from being too blocky.

This kit is badass and beautiful. I cannot wait to wear it.

Like car model years, we're starting ours early. This decision was driven by two things. Kissena's 50th anniversary, and a new set of sponsors. It make sense to refresh the kit. Ros K volunteered his time and energy to put together a great new design.

This is really a racing in 2012-2013 kit. Use your older kits for training. As your older stuff ages out, replace it.
