Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

10705 comments · 111606 views
I'm in if it's on Sunday. @Adam, can you tell us a bit more about the route? A couple weeks ago I took the train up to Cold Spring and did a nice 50-mile or so loop through Putnam County, back to Peekskill. Reminded me how pristine (and hilly) this state's roads can be.
OK, peoples.

Great that there's enthusiasm for this, if I'd have known I would have spent less time badgering you all about doing the Triangle Ride and more time badgering you about heading to Pawling.

OK, for me, there is a good chance that I may be hung over on Sunday, might be possible to change my revelry to Friday night though.  Will see.  In any case, here is a poll.  For those interested, click on it and choose.  I guess we go with the popular day, those who can't make it, there's always next week.  Deadline Thursday peoples.

The course has been used for the road race there for years.  I think I speak for everyone when I say we were all fucking gutted when it was cancelled this year, I believe due to irreconcilable differences between local government and the people who like to use the roads we pay tax for to ride on once every year.  Oh well.

Here's a course profile.  Fun times:

Any smaller groups want to ride with me from Kissena Park Velodrome to Commack Long Island and back?
Sunday Morning 7am?
Adam,

I'm glad I'm not the only one that schedules riding around drinking.

And Eric said I could drive his car which holds 3-4 bikes and not pay for gas/tolls. Right Eric?
Hmmm? I'm back this weekend. Car isn't going anywhere without me.
Eric, Where's the info for the cross clinic

Clinic #1 information.
Date - Saturday August 24
Time - 8am at Grand Army Plaza, 9am at Cunningham Park Tennis courts (Union Tpke and Francis Lewis Blvd). Look it up on a map, I'm on my phone here. Then we cross the street to the field at 199th street and union.

What you need. CX bike. Spare tube. Helmet. Water and food.

What to expect - a ride leader will guide you from gap to cunningham. At Cunningham you will learn and work on mounts and dismounts, bike handling, race strategy, and so much more! Figure two hours of working on how to ride your bike better. Sounds repetitive because it is. You need to practice and this is that practice.

Myles will be there too!

Then we go home.

We are also contemplating another clinic on the Sunday at stillwell woods. This involves getting transportation out there so it requires logistical planning.

Please start to mark your calendars and post that you're coming.

Eric
I'll be there if Adam's ride ends up moving to Sunday.  We should cross post this to Cyclocross thread, methinks.
I'll be there Saturday regardless. Hoping Adam's ride ends up Sunday!
Seems i'm not invited to my own party!!!

Those who replied to the doodle wanted to head up to Pawling Sunday.  Sunday it is!  The people have spoken.  Might I suggest the 747am train from Grand Central.  Should be a blast.  Of course, it's pretty unlikely that I will be able to make it, however, make sure you go fast, and not just on the downhill parts.

Take photos for me!

Sounds like bollocks to me Adam.  I'll crack a beer at the CX practice for you though.  And point out my STERLING CLEAN DRIVETRAIN thank you very much :P
I saw it. It's clean.
Hammerfest tomorrow for anyone not doing CX or pawling?
@Jim_nelson, can I borrow your sweet Waterford?  Or just wheels/tires?  I can use my spare road bike, but need to get proper CX tires.
Im not 100% for pawling so by all means adam if its your idea you should ride saturday.
@owens ... probably.
@owens-- I'll be there.
Ok I dropped myself up the watertower and rockland climbs.  Pretty incredible.

But, I ran into Kim on the way back through the city.  Hadn't seen her in over a year.  I'm also bringing a potential new member on the ride tomorrow.  I'm gonna keep it social and stop for coffee every chance I get.

I'm looking to go long and relatively hard tomorrow. I'll start with the regular group (8AM BB, 9AM GWB) and then we can figure out groups after that.

BTW - I have friends in town so this is all pending on what happens in terms of alcohol consumption tonight.

I think I mentioned this on another thread...

I'll be riding long-ish (3.75 hours bridge to bridge) tomorrow "through the wormhole" if anyone wants to join this endurance paced ride through inland Jersey. There will be plenty of places where you can open up the legs on longer/harder climbs full gas, but you know, you'll have to slow down in between to wait for me.

Unless JP comes along on the "Ridgewood" ride and then you can ride all "bag of hammers" style with that dude.
I think I'm going to be able to get out tomorrow too. Marc's ride might get a bit long for me from Brooklyn though.
Good chance I will be out there (8am BB) tomorrow as well. Need to keep getting them miles in, as I have lost my fitness since May. Will be doing nothing over Endurance/Tempo tomorrow, so I will keep swallowing my pride on the climbs until my legs are found. Not so sure I want to go long and end up with 70+ miles like last weekend though.

Do it.  Eat well and often.  And when you find yourself on edge, jam a caffeine-lace gel.
Pawling people!

What's the gameplan?

Im upstate - where/when tomorrow do we meet?
Pawling has fizzled. Without its courageous and handsome spiritual leader Adam, we have all reverted to our familiar 9W ride.

I bet Pawling is beautiful in the fall ...
i'll prob see u guys at 9am at the gwb, if i can drag my fat self out of bed.
I'm going to be at bb at 8. Sparkill probably.
Sounds like it's going to be a good group at the bridge tomorrow. See you at 8 am, 'cross amateur hour-related bruising willing...
yeah I'm coming out too

not looking great from my end. don't wait. I'll try though.
